This place was a lucky find! I was walking around town after going to the park with my kids and we were hungry so just looking for a place to grab lunch. We happened upon Shisan Fan and I will say it is one of my top five sushi experiences in San diego ever! The kids had pork barbecue noodles and cleaned their plates!I had a dirty blonde roll with seared albacore, shrimp tempura, ponzu, and cilantro micro greens. Divine!I also had the Jessica Alba which is a bunch of fresh fish rolled in cucumber and a light citrus sauce, also topped with cilantro micro greens and caviar. Absolutely sensational. Austin, our server was warm and attentive. We showed up right as they were opening and he did a great job of juggling everything. We will definitely be back!

Came in for Comic-con. So glad to see Chinese back in the Gas Lamp!! Service is slow, bathroom is clean and menu is limited and prices are higher than normal. We understand limited menu and higher pricing, but no wait. So I guess other people mind.Food tasted great.

I'm feeling really conflicted about giving this a three-star rating, because I really hate to write any restaurant this low. I understand that the restaurant industry is really tough, and so I'm not making this post lightly. Ultimately I felt like the interior space felt like a cafeteria with fluorescent lighting, the sushi was unimpressive, and our service was incredibly slow. To be completely fair to this restaurant, the sushi did taste like it had fresh fish, and the restaurant was clean. You will be fine if you eat here, I just didn't care enough for it to ever want to come back. There was nothing inherently wrong about it, but in a town with tons of different sushi options this one just didn't stand out. We also got the Chinese food which was okay, but nothing above fast food quality. As for the server being really slow, it took forever to get our drinks refilled, and we sat there for maybe 15 minutes before we ever got the menu. When we did order our food we were sitting there for another 30 minutes before any of it came out. There were probably two or three other tables that were sat in the restaurant, so really wasn't busy. Maybe the server was by herself, I'm not sure. I'd love to give benefit of the doubt, but it really dragged on.My friend and I who went both agreed that it felt like it was a place that was trying to do two things really well, but didn't accomplish that for either thing. We ordered appetizers, sushi, entrees, drinks, we really tried it all. The sesame balls were really good? But the rest of it... Was fine. Three stars worth of fine.

Came here for a quick bite before a binge. General Tso - 7/10 well sauced Fried rice - 10/10. Lots of toppings, has wok hay!!! Love some good stir fried rice. Ootoro and other sushi - 3/10. Very weak I think, especially the Ootoro. Very cold, I understand it probably isn't ordered much. Wasn't very fresh either. I don't recommend getting the ootoro at an establishment that isn't just sushi. Maybe that's my fault!Bbq pork chop suey - 1/10. Do not order, I didn't get a photo but it was just a mound of bean sprouts with few hits of pork. Although the pork was awesome. Soft, juicy, good flavor. Just not worth it. Otherwise meal was okay, got us through! Staff is very kind and accommodating. We asked for more plates and I can see them rush just to get us what we need!

We came in for the first time and it's a cute spot in downtown close to the Padres Stadium. We got the volcano, samurai, and Padres rolls and the Mongolian beef. Food was great, everything was flavorful and tasted fresh. Presentation was great!

This 4th Ave corner suite in the Gaslamp Quarter is now the home of a new Chinese/Japanese restaurant after the previous sushi joint that came in from out of state did not survive for long. Prior to that, a nondescript Mexican eatery operated from here and was a frequent stop at the downtown food/drink taste festivals. Both the exterior and interior were well lit which drew attention like moths to a flame. The inside was very spacious and would be a great spot to host large groups. At the time of my visit, there was only one customer inside who was waiting for a takeout order. It happened to be the spouse of a local foodie friend. :) I took a seat at a two-top table by the front windows. The menu had a vast selection of sushi, sashimi, hand rolls, rice, and noodle entrees. I didn't have the patience to take a photo of each page as it would have been time consuming. I chose the following items to dine in.* Ex-Lover Roll: Soy paper wrapped crabmeat, salmon, yellowtail, avocado, and cucumber with ponzu sauce, eel sauce, and chef's blend on top.* Passion Salmon Bliss: Six pieces of salmon dressed with passion orchids sauce, mango, black tobiko, scallions, tōgarashi, and chili oil. There were eight pieces to the roll. The fish quality was good for both dishes. The better value was the roll as the sashimi was pricey for the quantity. I also ordered the Beef Chow Fun to take home for a future meal. This turned out to be my favorite because not only was the portion size good for the price, but the execution was solid. The noodles had some char to them which told me the kitchen was skilled with the stir-frying (wok hei). The beef could have been a little more tender, but the chow fun was why I brought my rating of Shisan Fan Sushi and Chinese Restaurant to a four star level.

My partner ordered take out for me. Surprisingly my favorite dish was the dirty blonde roll Twas verrrry tasty. Unique combo and easy on the eyes. I also ordered beef chow fun and that was bland in flavor but plentiful! Nothing some packs of soy sauce and chili oil won't fix. All in all I'm pleased. The sushi roll was a bit expensive but worth it because it was so different.

If you're craving a diverse array of flavors, then Shisan Fan is the place to be. Came here for Comic-con week and this hidden gem found in Downtown excels in offering a delightful blend of Chinese food. I ordered the Mongolian Beef and the House Chow Mein and was extremely impressed by the quality of their food. The beef was tender and the chow mein was well seasoned. Each dish reflects a dedication to their quality ingredients and authentic preparation. My friends ordered sushi instead, each sushi was artfully pieced together. However, food was a bit slow but it is completely understandable since they were short in staff. It also warn us on their menu to wait patiently so no complain at all. Staff was kind and professional. Overall best experience and will be coming back when I get the chance.
