My husband and I visited this Japanese restaurant for the first time! The food and the service are amazing. Our favorites are the creamy udon and salmon donburi. The sweet black tea and Yuzu mojito were refreshing additions. While it's not the most affordable option, the delicious taste makes it worth the experience in this traditional Japanese setting. If you're looking for a great food and a welcoming atmosphere, definitely check out here! We'll be back for sure!

We decided to venture to Shinya's new location in Redmond for the AYCE yakitori. First, I would like to say that everyone who is hating on shinya's new AYCE offering needs to temper their expectations. I would consider myself extremely critical when it comes to eating out and I wholeheartedly believe that their AYCE offering is worth every penny. The staff was efficient and prompt from start to finish. From the moment we sat down, our waitress told us there would be a bit of a wait for food orders due to how busy it was. I appreciated how upfront she was which helped us make informed decisions on what to order first. Even so, the staff still delivered value by always filling up our waters, switching out the menus as soon as we placed a new round of orders, and brought the food out ASAP while it was still hot. Food was pretty good. I suggest ordering the skewers with tare sauce instead of the salt which you can indicate by adding a tally on the left side of the red line next to your desired item. My favorites were the chicken wing, shiitake mushroom, chicken thigh, beef tendon, and pork neck. The chicken breast a bit dry but with the saikyo miso on top, it added some moisture and flavor to the texture. I would suggest asking for the saikyo miso on the side to dip in. One item that was extremely underrated which I'm surprised people aren't talking about here is the tonkatsu. It's deliciously juicy with a fresh breading. The katsu is one of the best I've tried here (yes even better than Kobuta and Ookami) and to think it's only the appetizer that's AYCE is insane! Now for the cons - I would strongly recommend against getting the chicken liver, tendon, and heart. Perhaps it's just a personal preference but I found them to be flavorless and unpalatable in texture. Overall, I would 100% come back here for the AYCE. It is definitely worth the money and you get ample time to eat to your heart's content. We had 4 people, 2 pitchers of beer, and hot sake totaling $240 for the bill. Not a bad deal if you ask me! Thanks Shinya!

Need a late night meal, or just a place to have fun cocktails with friends? Try shinya shokudo in Remond! As an izakaya that specializes in Japanese skewers, shinya shokudo offers lots of options and small bites. They also have a creative cocktail menu that is inspired by japanese flavors. And, after 9pm every day, for happy hour, all alcoholic beverages are 50% off! Such a good deal especially in this part of the eastside. We ordered the yakitori combo (scallop, shrimp, unagi/eel, and salmon) and the seafood combo, and then a garlic beef a la carte. I'd probably skip the beef next time (or upgrade to wagyu), but I love the yakitori set. It's definitely more on the adventurous side, but I love chicken parts. It's my favorite thing on the menu. The seafood set was delicious as well, with plump scallops and tender bites of salmon. If you're not into skewers, don't worry, they also have rice bowls or even hotpot/nabe. For alcohol, we ordered the lavender mojito, yuzu mojito, blood moon, strawberry gin, zen garden, peach makgeolli, and strawberry makgeolli. The cocktails were all delicious but a little on the sweeter side if that is what you enjoy. My favorites were the lavender mojito and the strawberry gin. I was also surprised at how amazing the Makgeolli was. The restrooms are nice and clean and are single stall that are gendered. There is a large, free parking lot. You can make reservations right here on Yelp, and all the staff are very friendly and helpful, especially Jojo the manager who was working that evening, who we appreciated so much. Despite how busy it was, he took time to help answer our questions and help us make menu choices.

Our experience wasn't great, so not sure I'd come back. It's expensive for what you order, especially for the rice/noodle dishes as someone else stated, too. I'll break out the pros and cons for this one:Pros:- Decent variety of options- Great for a group hangout with friends - Katsu was really good and well cookedCons:- Dishes are overpriced. $5 for what tasted like instant udon noodles and $8 for spring mix with some canned pineapple and a few pieces of corn was not a great feeling.- There's barely any curry with the katsu curry?? Everyone that ordered it said the same thing. It's like a ladle of curry for one giant cutlet and a ton of rice. - They forgot multiple dishes and charged us for them, we had to ask to get them off the bill and after leaving we realized they charged us for a soup we never got, too- At the end we asked to split the bill as we ordered individually off our phones and they couldn't do it. We ended up just paying on one card and figuring it out later as a groupBummed because I wanted to like this place but I think there are much better options for the money, and better service elsewhere.

I have been to their Seattle location and this one is not much different. We made reservations for 2 for a Sunday dinner just in case, which is a good call since it was fairly busy. Regardless there were still tables open, even though it was Father's Day so the restaurant was a bit busier than usual. We got the yakitori combo and seafood combo, 2x of 4 items per order, as well as the garlic beef skewer a la carte (2 skewers per order), so a total of 18 skewers for 2 people, which is a good amount for a nice meal. We also got various cocktails but I liked the Yuzu Mojito a lot. For the skewers, the scallops and the garlic beef are the standouts, but everything else were solid and up to my expectations.

Overall a very good experience. Came here with a friend from out of town and just wanted to eat somewhere that we can share items with and try out different things. Shinya Shokudo definitely hit the spot and seemed like a good place to go.Came here on a Wednesday and restaurant was pretty much full but there also wasn't a wait for dinner time. Maybe we got in at just the right time. Ambiance was pretty much modern and you would expect.Service is just okay. Not much for them to do here since all the ordering is online. They do check on you once in a while to refill waters but everything else is just order as you go through your phone. Now to the food. I thought that the skewers would be extremely good since that's what looks like the most chosen item. We chose a veggie combo and the beef combo. I thought the veggies were pretty good but the beef skewers were a little disappointing. Maybe it was just the batch we got, the meat was fine but I would have expected a little more char flavor from the grilling. Now the highlight to me was the rice dishes we ordered. We got a wagyu beef/egg donburi, curry katsu bowl, and the burger meat with egg and cheese bowl. All of them were absolutely fantastic and hit the spot. The favorite was definitely with beef/egg donburi. The wagyu beef was extremely tender and flavorful and when you break the egg onto everything it just adds so much umami. Then it also has a flavored rice, which I think was a little bit of sauce mixed in with Japanese sushi rice. This is a must get.Good spot to go and would definitely recommend.

The original sushi place we wanted to visit this evening was closed, so we found ourselves stumbling across Shinya Shokudo. It wasn't white "sushi", but its Japanese cuisine and sashimi factor reeled us in. Service: We arrived just before 6, without reservation. It was almost entirely empty, with there being 2 tables of customers max. The young waiter told us that we can only be seated a bar without reservation. I found it odd since they had many, many tables available. Anyways, about 15 minutes after seating, our waiter offered us a normal table because someone cancelled. The restaurant got busier about 35 min after, but wasn't completely full. Nonetheless, the staff were attentive and kind throughout our meal. Ambiance:It was a spacious restaurant and felt really clean. Their decoration was modern with a twist of old time Japan in there that makes you feel like you're back wandering the streets of Japan. Food: Their menu wasn't exactly huge, but they had some good selections! I can't recall the exactly name of each dish we got, but my favourite was their deluxe sashimi don. Every item on there was extremely fresh and they had a good ration of sauce with rice, so even if we finished all the sashimi, there were still enough sauce to finish off the rice with. With that being said, there was a good portion of sashimi and I was able to eat every piece with a bite of rice. Each piece was so fatty and fresh-- it was worth every penny!! Their salmon sashimi was ok! Slices were too thin for my liking and I didn't taste its full potential. We got their selection of meat skewers. It came with sets of two and I only really enjoyed one of them. It was a beef skewer, but I forget exactly which part of the cow it was. I just recall it being extremely tender, melting in my mouth as soon as I bit into it. We then got a bento box situation going on (it was called something else on the menu). We got it because it had a selection of different food items we could try. It was underwhelming. The chicken karaage was way too tough and dry. The batter was soo thick, we couldn't even finish it. The takoyaki was also way too thick and dense. It wasn't enjoyable. The seaweed and egg were.. normal. The sashimi and Scallop were the star! The scallop was the freshest I've ever had. The beef udon was very salty. The broth was unique.. and different. For the price, it was a very small portion. It was easily my least favourite part of the meal. For the food alone, I'd want to give it a 3 star, but bumped it to a 4 due to the fresh sashimi and the overall good service of its staff!
