We came for omakase and we ate lots of delicious food. We had many sushi nigiri wtih variety of fishes and other ingredients. The fried whole fishes are delicious. The last highlight of the meal is the chocolate shaved ice that the ice came from Japan. I was already full at that point but the shaved ice kept calling my name. There are lots of food that I could not remember how many courses are in this omakase. The price is reasonable and the service is fast.

I sat at the cocktail bar and it was well worth it. Watching the bartenders make drinks was fun to experience, and the drinks were delicious I ordered the Big & Spicy roll, Salmon Nigiri and the Pork Belly. The pork belly melted in your mouth, it was by far the most satisfying meal. The roll was also very good, I didn't like the jalapeños on top but in their defense I didn't read the description and I don't like jalapeños. Host was nice, the bartenders were very sweet and super knowledgeable, very easy to talk to also! I would say price wise it's pretty spendy. Between two people we got 5 drinks and the meals mentioned earlier and it was 192$ but I'd do it again

Bucket list checked! We have wanted to dine at Shimogamo and finally it happened. We had a reservation for 2 dinner. We got seated immediately even though we arrived 15 mins early. The interior and aesthetic is modern with an upscale vibe. Don't let the location fool you. We started with drinks, my husband got 2 rounds of Kyoto pear and I got the house ice tea. We got the surf and turf roll, Yellow tail roll, Kisu Pork Belly and the white fish tempura, finished with Sake Cheese cake. The food just melted in our mouth. The fish were fresh and screamed quality. Omg absolutely was impressed with the quality of items served. The belly was little sweet with char flavors. The service was on the slower side. It took forever for our server to take our order! They were busy, we could clearly see. The reservation was at 8:30 and we left around 9:40pm. Again they close at 9:30, they didn't rush us at all. I don't know if this was intentional! Again, our server didn't do a good job at explaining the food items. The surf and turf roll was $29, I felt that was way too pricier. Other servers who got our drinks and dessert explained the items. Overall, we enjoyed our dinner. It somewhat met our expectations. There is no doubt that the food quality served here is outstanding but pls be ready to pay the bucks $$$$. Service could have been better!

Would not have expected this sleek modern sushi restaurant based on the exterior. The ambiance was beautiful and the service was amazing- our waitress was so knowledgeable about everything on the menu and the daily selection of fish. We ordered a bunch of different things off the menu to share and try. Everything we had was absolutely delicious. The fish was so fresh and just melted in your mouth. The cocktails were unique and strong. They even fly their ice in from Japan, which they use in some of the cocktails and in their shaved ice dessert. It definitely is pricey so not a weekly sushi spot but the perfect spot for a special date night/celebration. Reservations are highly recommended.

This place has the best sushi I have ever had. Yes, I have gone to very fancy sushi places here, in Vegas, and Beverly Hills; but nothing comes close to Shimogamo. My hubby and I stopped here and sat up at the bar on Saturday everning. The bartenders where amazing as they recommended some of their star dishes. We ordered the Ocean Trout, Foie Gras, our Tuna Yuzi roll, and salmon sashimi. Our taste buds where in absolute heaven. This place is now our go to location to grab delicious, fresh sushi with an amazing ambient and personnel that know their dishes.

Came here for an Anniversary dinner. Made reservations online no problem. Seemed pretty packed on a Thursday evening, but they have a bar and tables in the back as well. Ordered a Matcha Hai which was tasty. Ordered oysters as an appetizer. The server came out and explained where the oysters were from and also recommended the order we eat them in. They were very good but damn they were small oysters. All had distinct flavors and were fresh. We then had the Yuzu Tuna roll which wow. This was so good - if you don't like cilantro you won't like this. Every piece had a great bite like perfect amount of greens and citrus and good taste of tuna. But the greens on top were very strong flavored which I liked. The cilantro did not taste like the cilantro I get haha much more concentrated flavor. The tuna buttery and fresh. Very good roll. After that we ordered the premium nigiri which is chefs choice of 6 pieces. We had a sea bream, 2 types of toro and other fish that I forgot. The server did the same thing where he walked us through each piece and wow they were all good. My favorite was the far right piece which I believe was the belly toro piece. So buttery and mouth feel. All of the pieces had a unique topping and perfect balance. After this, we moved onto their classic Japanese tuna roll and the spicy yellowtail roll. Good rolls nothing crazy just let the fish talk. All in all great spot although it is pricier than most of the sushi places I've been to in Phoenix but I'd say you get what you pay for. Service was great and a cute minimal interior!

Never been here before and came to celebrate a friends birthday.Food was excellent no doubt about that. Service was good. Waitstaff made recommendations on certain signature dishes and cocktails. They clearly picked out the most expensive ones!! Dinner was nearly $900 w/tip (for sushi that seems excessively expensive).Prices are high for their premium dishes - be prepared!

Shimogamo has secured its place in my top Phoenix sushi spots. It is an "upscale" sushi restaurant, but I put upscale in quotations because I still think it's quite fairly priced compared to other sushi restaurants of the same caliber, especially for common fish like tuna, salmon, and yellowtail. The restaurant is clean and modern and the service always kind, energetic, and attentive. What sets shimogamo apart is how incredibly fresh their fish is and their rotation of specials. Their nigiri is more on the traditional side but with small modern garnishes that create such a clean, delicious, and satisfying bite. You can't really go wrong with their rolls vs nigiri, but 2 non-negotiable in my opinion are the truffle amberjack and the agedashi tofu. The truffle amberjack has just the most incredible sauce and the agedashi tofu is the best I've ever had. Never would I have imagined a humble tofu dish to be on par with some sushi. As a bonus tip - they carry Echigo Red beer. Delicious.

We had a wonderful culinary experience at this restaurant, as the food was absolutely delicious and fresh. We sampled a bit of everything on the menu, and there wasn't a single dish that disappointed. However, the service did not match the quality of the food - it was extremely slow, which was a bit of a letdown. Hoping for a more streamlined experience next time!
