Shaw's Crab House

This was an extraordinary, memorable experience. Don't get me wrong, it was not inexpensive, but it was outstanding. We came to Shaw's because several in our group were craving some king crab - I mean, they were FIENDING for some king crab. Came to find out from the staff everything that has happened with overfishing Alaskan king crab, and that Shaw's established relationships with some Norwegian king crab provides. They are unique in that there are strict regulations limiting the size and number of king crabs they can fish, and these are caught by a network of smaller fishing operations. As a result they have a more limited number available each day, but each one is truly epic. We named our crab "Jake" and the fantastic staff expertly prepped him for us tableside so we didn't have to do any heavy lifting. Several diners at nearby tables came over and asked to take pictures. Jake was amazing, and he nearly kicked our butt. All three sides, appetizers, drinks and desserts were excellent. The service was really "old school first-rate". They are next door to Andy's Jazz club so we were able to walk over after dinner and enjoy a really great show while taking advantage of the valet parking at Shaw's. This was the kind of dining experience that reminded me of classic downtown Chicago restaurants from my childhood, decades ago. Really worth the visit.

Shaw's Crab House was absolutely iconic. Everything about this restaurant just reeks coolness. But being in the oyster shucking dining room, that was such an extra fun experience. Their oysters are shucked perfectly, rinsed well, no shell in them, chilled perfectly and with delicious sauce. Perfect!!! We did the sampler, and it was so good that we had to order another one. Every single oyster we tried was just as good as the one before. We also ordered the cocktail sampler which was delicious. I do wish we would've gotten more shrimp because they were extra good too. The service was, excellent. We so enjoyed our evening and cannot wait to get back there.

We had an amazing dinner at Shaws. We ordered Caesar salad (super fresh), crab legs (to die for), the rolls (amazing), fried calamari, friess the list goes on!Pedro was so accommodating and a phenomenal server to us- our friends were super late and we ended up being at the restaurant for a total of 3.5 hours (they joined us almost 2 hours in)- we of course were eating and ordering drinks along the way but he was just amazing! I can't wait to come back for more crab legs next time! Thanks Shaw's!

I only had a crab cake when I came but that alone was delicious. My party had several orders of oysters so I'd venture to say they were great. Our bartender was amazing and that really made the experience all the better. I will definitely be back

The vibe of the Oyster bar is what envisioned of old Chicago but hadn't found on my first visit to this City. Oysters and shrimp cocktail were perfect, the sauces were on point for every dish, and the wedge salad had the best dressing I've ever had. One of the best wedges ever, and I try them everywhere. There are so many spots to continue to check out here in Chicago but I would definitely come here again.

I ordered takeout so can't give a full review, but the experience was good nonetheless. the oysters rockefeller was tasty, albeit a tad overpriced - you only get 4 oysters for $20. the hostess was very prompt and friendly. the ambiance is nice, however, it may be a little outdated/old-fashioned. i would return to try more items and give a more comprehensive review.

Good service.. Got seated right away... I ordered the seafood gumbo and jumbo shrimp cocktail and both of them were really good. Gumbo was good, nice and hearty with a lot of flavor. The shrimp cocktail was good, cold and fresh.. Nice ambience, good service and good.. My friends and I came back to back nights while we were in town. That should let you know how good the food and service was.

The food was great I took advantage of a no meat friday deal that they had. The meal included a soup or salad, a main dish and a dessert. I had a little bit of everything the clam chowder was delicious and so were the oysters. The service was really fast from taking our order, to drinks, to actually bringing our order out. In terms of the ambiance there were two types of spaces the formal dinning area and a more casual dining area. We sat at the casual side we were able to watch oyster being chucked. All in all it was a great experience and I will return to to Shaws the next time I visit Chicago.

My first visit to Shaw's was May of 1985 and it is just as good today as it was then. I sat at the oyster bar as I did not have a reservation (recommend). The bar was packed and the service was great. I had the lobster bisque and the volcano roll with a side of tuna nigiri. All of it was fabulous !! The ambiance was just what you want from an oyster busy, vibrant and people enjoying themselves !

Came for a "quick" bite of seafood!Interior is spacious with private party areas as well as bar and general dining. It wasn't too crowded for a weekday lunch so was able to get last minute reservations. Didn't know what to get so ordered the seafood combo with clam chowder and a burger. The $42 combo was small in relation to the size of the platter. Burger was juicy though fries were salty. The chowder was creamy and satisfying. Warm bread and butter provided at table. Be aware 3% surcharge.
