Love the decor here! Came around 2pm. There was one other table. Service was friendly and prompt. We ordered:* filter coffee: strong! And delicious* Thai iced tea: also yum* goi cuon(spring roll): generously portioned with delicious peanut sauce* bun bowl with the works: the shrimp & pork were absolutely finger licking good! The egg roll and chicken were fine* the beef brisket pho -- the broth here is possibly the best broth I've ever had!! Definitely get the extra broth. Next time we're getting the large extra brothSooooo goood. I'd definitely come back next time we're in San Francisco

Dang is this place yummy! Don't go if all you like is burgers and fries. But if you're at ALL open to the tastes of anything else, you'll find out why the wait for this place is oftentimes kinda long. Make a reservation if you can! Holy cow the new flavors you will find are the reason this restaurant is often full much of the time. But don't be scared off. Make a reservation. Or wait. Tables open often, particularly on weekdays. But please check; I don't know if they're open on Monday.

The pho here is very good and authentic. I'm glad to see two pho noodle options, the flat noodle or the normal thin ones. The pho bowls are served fully loaded plated in the bowl and the server comes and pours the pho broth into your bowl. Everything was very fresh. I had the pho tai and the pho S&B. The S&B comes in a bigger bowl to accommodate all the meats. It was worth the price. I also ordered the chicken egg rolls. It was okay, i am used to pork egg rolls. I saw that they also offered Ca Kho To, which is catfish in a clay pot and i was so excited i ordered it Togo. I was a little disappointed to see the cat fish portion was so small. It came with two pieces in this big bowl, it was a let down. The order also comes with a side soup and rice. I wouldn't recommend ordering this dish . The restaurant was very clean and organized. The staff was nice and friendly. A solid neighborhood restaurant .

My sister was raving about this place. My mom and I didn't really like it. I didn't think the pho was anything great, compared to other places.Service was great though and the place is great seating.

Came for a weekday lunch and was pleasantly surprised! I ordered a grilled pork banh mi (without cilantro) and my friend ordered the classic spring rolls. The banh mi isn't very large but the pork was so flavorful and tender, and the bread was crispy but not too hard like I've had at some other banh mi spots. Flavors balanced nicely and the banh mi was $10 which I thought was a fair price. My friend also really enjoyed her spring rolls!Service was very friendly and attentive, and there's plenty of seating inside with a casual and lively ambiance. Parking can be tough to find since it's street parking so make sure to factor that in when planning your arrival. Will definitely be back!

Shank and Bone is a modern take on Vietnamese cuisine with more sweetened, toned down flavors to please a more Americanized crowd. This restaurant is perfect for those in the San Diego area wanting to try a wide range of classic Vietnamese dishes that stray away from the more well-known Pho or Banh Mi dishes! Typically, more authentic Vietnamese restaurants serve an abundance of greens and plenty of sides such as rice and bread to go with the main courses, but this restaurant was a bit more stingy. Banh Xeo Tacos: (4/5) the Banh Xeo itself was not greasy which is a plus, but not thick or crisp enough to hold up as a taco - it fell apart quickly. These 3 tacos were served with one piece of lettuce on the side. If only they gave at least 3 pieces to wrap each banh xeo in, it would help it hold its shape when trying to dip and eat it. The filling itself was plentiful and tasty!Saigon Chicken Wings: (3/5) the chicken wing had a good crispiness on the outside and was juicy on the inside. I could tell these wings had a decent time to marinate because the chicken itself had a good flavor on its own. The sauce was disappointing - it was overly sweet and didn't have that classic nuoc mam taste to it.Ca Kho To & Canh Chua Tom (specials): (3.5/5) again these dishes were good, but both overly sweet and heavy with the added sugar. The Ca Kho To would have benefited from being cooked a bit longer to allow the sauce to thicken. It was served with a decent sized portion of fish. Canh Chua is a vietnamese sour soup with a tamarind flavored broth. I was missing the pineapple and okra, but did appreciate the bean sprouts, tomatoes, and elephant ear stems. Beef Stew - Banh mi bo kho: (5/5) nostalgic, warm, and delicious! Similar in basic composition to an American beef stew with meat and veggies, but differing in broth, flavored with a variety of things such as lemon grass, star anise, clove, fish sauce, tomato paste, etc. The beef was tender and plentiful. The baguette is meant to be dipped in the stew, which we had to order an extra of (and cost extra) but well worth it.

Shank & Bone is among the popular restaurants in North Park. Located on University and a block from 30th. Metered Street parking only. The restaurant layout offered both indoor and outdoor seating. I always prefer basking in a little sunshine to get my dose of vitamin D and sat outside with my pup Fendi. The table I sat had a great view of the North Park sign for background pics. However, all outdoor seatings are exposed to the exhaust fumes from the busy traffic and the bus stop right out front, I knew I would not stay long. The restaurant offers their version of Vietnamese foods, most notably Pho, a Vietnamese soup. I've had my share of pho but I am always on the hunt for the best. Even though I wanted to try the vegan pho, I need to increase my collagen intake and so I ordered the beef bone broth pho soup sans noodles to make it gluten and carb free. The waitress was nice but uninformed about some of the menu item details. I noticed the menu offered a kids menu with half the portion which would have been perfect for Me but the waitress quickly said I was not allowed to order. My quick reply was, I was going to order more items like the sugar cane with shrimp on the stick and veggie spring rolls, but since I couldn't order a smaller portion of pho, cancel the other items. Also, if I ordered from the kids menu togo, they can't prevent that! I never finish a bowl of pho and a smaller portion is what I wanted as NOT to be wasteful. Hesitantly, I ordered the simplest pho soup with the beef bones. The wait for my simple order took longer than reasonable time and I informed the waitress, that I have an appointment and cannot wait longer. 2 minutes later my bowl of soup was presented by another staffer. The bowl had two Brontosaurus size beef bones with bone marrow. The bones occupied so much space I couldn't even put my soup spoon inside. I was not comfortable dealing with these hugh bones, it would be too laborious and messy. The bones had some tender meat, the fatty bone marrow as well as lots of glutenous tendons, which I'm NOT a fan of. FYI the meat, tendon and fatty parts happen to be what collagen is made of, but I will stick to taking the pill form! After tilting the bowl, I manage to taste the broth, which was phenomenal. The taste of star anise and other herbs was flavorful, wholesome delish, but could have been served piping hot and not warm so the taste of this Bone Broth alone deserves 4.5 stars!I didn't feel comfortable eating this bowl with all the bones, so I promptly asked for togo packaging. Also, didn't like the outdoor elements of the traffic exhaust and countless number of lookey-loos and sadly many homeless people passing by. The interior of the restaurant was decorated modernish but did NOT appear clean, lots of debris on the floor and surfaces, which is a major faux pas.If you're not as peculiarly picky about some of the negatives I mentioned, this place is a worth visit or order Togo for the collagen rich beef bone broth soup, Pho from Shank and Bone!

Overall this place was amazing. Service was quick from getting seated, placing our orders, and getting our food. The restaurant was very lively, staff were great and welcoming, and everything coming out of the kitchen looked delectable. We ordered the bone marrow, Saigon wings, rice noodle rolls, and pho. Personally I wasn't a fan of the Saigon wings only because the fish sauce was a little too fishy, off putting for me but I still gave it a try. Everything was amazing overall and our bill for all 4 dishes was $75, which isn't bad at all considering the portions were on point and we actually left with a food coma. Would definitely come again, especially since there is a happy hour price special for starters.
