This is a delicious no-frills Chinese takeout place. I've tried many of the lunch specials and Mongolian Chicken is my favorite so far but they've all been pretty good. Good portion sizes -- I split one order into two meals. Sometimes they go heavy on the sauce. Service is always prompt and friendly. Typical chinese restaurant ambiance with tasteful decor, plants, old magazines, and one table that you can eat at if you really want to but I'm sure they prefer you take your food and go. Prices are fair and they don't hound for tips.

This was my first time in Glencoe to watch a show at Writer's Theater, and I stopped by this place for a meal before the show. It seems to be the only Chinese restaurant in the entire town and also one of the few places both open at night and relatively affordable. My friend and I ordered the Walnut Shrimp Special and Sauteed Green Beans. We were told it would take 30 minutes, so we sat inside to wait, and the food came out right on time and piping hot. You can't dine in the restaurant though, as they don't have a dining license. 9 times out of 10, Chinese takeout will always hit for me, and Shanghai Garden was no exception. The green beans were flavorful and well-sauteed. The walnut shrimp had a nice crispy texture, tangy taste, and also came with broccoli and crispy noodle pieces. The portions are large for the price and they also included a large box of rice with our order. For just $15 per person, we had a good amount of leftovers. Overall great value, tasty food, generous portions, friendly service-- I would love to return if I'm in the area again!--Price (relative to peers): 4.5/5Food: 4.5/5Ambience: N/AService: 5/5Overall Value: 4.5/5

Nothing short of Shanghai! After eating here I'll be saying Shangbye to Shanghai (because the food was so good) and saying more ShangHIs to all the workers! WORD PLAY ! Anyways despite popular opinion I actually loved the potstickers! U know me when I see a doughy bun I'm all in! But if dough ain't ur thing don't u worry there are plenty of hidden gems on the menu. A full secret garden of them u could say! So grab ur car keys and go go go because Shanghai garden is amazing!

So my neighbors raved about this place. I won't be taking on their suggestion however as much as I love them LOL. From all the reviews I was forewarned about the inordinate amount of time from order to pickup. I didn't experience that but got the food pretty quickly made. Pros: fried tempura shrimp were good, crispy and flavorful. But then again, how do u F up fried food. Beef with broccoli was tasty and had lots of fresh, and not over cooked veggies. Kudos to this.Cons: pot stickers were gummy and had too much dough. Filling was meh.Chicken fried rice was unappealing and not enough veggies. Not one bean sprout in site.I so wanted to patronize this establishment as the lady at the counter was hussling to get all the pickup orders and she was friendly enough. Unfortunately I still need to keep searching. One reviewer said there's no such thing as good Chinese food on the North Shore. I think he's right!

The food was delicious. It was just not clear about their menu; there were none at the restaurant so there were discrepancies between what I saw online and what I was told I could order. While waiting 12 year olds came in and out with ice cream bars and I couldn't see where they got them from. Glencoe is bizarre.

The food is mediocre but it's convenient. You should add 30 minutes to time they tell you to pick up. They are always behind and aren't apologetic. Glencoe needs a better Chinese spot. Come on Shanghai Garden!

I love their egg rolls. They remind me of Kow Kow that was in Lincolnwood and close about a decade ago. Food is consistent "old school" Chinese food. I always get the Pepper Tomato Beef. Very convenient local food.
