This place out in Libertyville, next to Casa Bonita (Mexican Restaurant) is a very fancy & modern looking place. Our server was amazing he kept checking up on us & gave us lots of great suggestions. Sushi looked great and tasted totally fresh! I recommend this place 100%. There is also a nice looking space upstairs for private events.

First time here and I loved it!Very classy place not casual but not super dressy too. The service was great! Parking is a bit of a challenge but there is a garage around the corner. We ordered a bunch of stuff but for me the most memorable is the Braised Beef. It was soooo tender. Seasoned perfectly and serving was huge. I also liked their Pink Panther - Shrimp tempura, cream cheese, cucumber, mayo and tempura crunch, rolled in black rice, topped with smoked salmon, pico de gallo and unagi sauceI will definitely be coming back yo try more stuff on the menu. Happy Eating!

Took the wife out for a date night yesterday after work. I've been having a taste for some good sushi and she's always wanted to have me try Shakou Restaurants. As soon as we entered, this restaurant was beautiful to look at. Large crystal chandeliers are positioned throughout the entire establishment, accommodated with beautiful table placement and decor. This place definitely offers high quality, fancy vibes with an eye grabbing layout and outstanding service team.On the first floor, we sat at the sushi bar, watching what would seem to be a large team of Itamaes and Shokunins. These skilled artists work at a constant rate, preparing incredible variations of sushi and magnificently delicious dishes. As the plates were being sent out, we watched the masterpieces be taken away to be delivered to the tables throughout the restaurant. My wife and I were very excited for our experience. When given our menu, we were given a small silver coaster that had a QR code. We scanned it with our smartphones and began our journey through the menu. There were three types of sushi that we tried: Jalapeno maki rolls, Dragon Fire signature maki rolls, and Midori. Each of these dishes, along with ALL of Shakou Restaurants are prepared in house, providing incredibly fresh and delightful experiences within your mouth. Your taste buds will be dancing for joy and your tummy will be satisfied by the end of the meal. Each bite we took, our mouth was exploding with incredible flavors. The presentation was inviting and again, a work of art. This was by far the best sushi I've ever had so far and highly recommend. The only caution I have is to be prepared for an expensive experience. It'll be a while until we go back, but when we do, it's a wonderful experience. It's an experience that's worth trying at least once.

Our experience at Shakou was nothing short of extraordinary. From the moment we made our reservation via the Resy Global dining app to the moment we left, every aspect of our evening was impeccable.Upon arrival, the restaurant was bustling with activity, but the staff managed everything seamlessly. The ambience was outstanding, with a unique and captivating atmosphere that set the stage for an unforgettable dining experience. Initially seated in a corner, we were delighted when the staff kindly offered us a booth, enhancing our comfort and enjoyment. Our culinary adventure at Shakou began with the Lamb Chops. Though the portion size was small, the taste was outstanding. Each bite offered a burst of flavors, perfectly cooked to perfection. It was a delightful start to our meal.We also indulged in the Bul Go Gi Egg Roll, which was a delectable combination of Korean BBQ flavors wrapped in a crispy shell. The explosion of savory goodness made this dish an absolute favorite. The Firecracker Shrimp and Sweet Chili Chicken Katsu were equally impressive, showcasing the chef's expertise in creating dishes that perfectly balance flavors and textures.Throughout our time at Shakou, the service was exceptional. The attentive and knowledgeable staff made us feel welcome and attended to our every need. From their recommendations to their warm and friendly demeanor, the service truly enhanced our overall experience. In summary, Shakou provided us with a dining experience that exceeded our expectations. The outstanding food, unique ambience, and attentive service created an unforgettable evening. Whether it was the Lamb Chops, Bul Go Gi Egg Roll, or other dishes we tried, each bite was a delightful journey of flavors. We highly recommend Shakou to anyone seeking a fantastic culinary adventure.Note: This review is based on a personal dining experience and reflects our honest opinions.

This was our first time in Shakou, and I would say, this restaurant deserves 4.5 stars, not 4. First of all, the staff was very kind and took our order right away when we decided. Food was 50% good, 50% bad. The soy sauce was way too salty, and the rice had taste, but not so much. Manager of Shakou, if you will read this, make the private room only for one table. There was another family in the room, and they were so noisy! Like, I don't think that family even cared that we were even there and that we needed some volume to talk. In summary, if anybody in Libertyville or other towns want to have some Japanese cuisine, this is the place.

I have a love/hate relationship with this place. The sushi is pretty good, but the prices are off the chart. Even if you can snag a discounted gift card, still over priced.Unless you're in NY or LA, there is no way a roll should cost $24-$26. Some local places have high prices as well, but rolls are larger and more fish.My go to is the Golden Lobster ($26) which is good, but cmon on the price. Then a mix in a different roll as #2. Last time was rainbow ($20) ,which at that price should have had more fish.So last visit, two rolls and a soda, plus tax and tip was $60. That's just nuts.I have one more gift card to use and then its over. You are paying for the ambiance, as my son pointed out. Is that worth it to you; then go for it. Maybe a date spot? For a frequent visit spot, just not a fit for us.

The food was awesome! The service was amazing as well but the decor is weird and the martini glasses make them hard to hold. Please also turn the music down. The music with the other customers and just the echo of everything else is just too much. Again food and service itself was amazing but the restaurant itself is lacking desirable personality.
