Tom B. "There are a ton of wineries around here, which you probably already know. This isn't so much a 5-star review for party atmosphere as it is a 5-star review for the quality of the wine itself. This is a big strip mall completely filled with wine and food places. The parking can be a pain. You might want to Uber or book a tour, anyway, depending on how many wines you're sampling today. But if you score a parking spot in this lot, count yourself lucky. Lachini has a small tasting room with one big table, some mixed seating here and there, and some wicker furniture on the sidewalk. The wine is excellent, and the staff are very friendly. We tried several years of the pinot noir, and it's easy to see why people flip over the good pinots when you try Lachini's. The vintages vary quite a bit, and even the best vintages can be quite different (good in different ways). We also tried the sparkling rose, which was excellent. That's not a style I usually go for, but theirs is balanced and easy to get into but keeps being interesting all the way through. They obviously have piles of wine available to go, and will happily hook you up with a wine club membership as of this writing. Only comment I would make is that one of the staff was wearing a lot of cologne; usually in a setting where you really want to zero in on the wine's aromatics that's a no-no, but this is also a fun place to hang out and bend an elbow, not a competition judging panel. So I guess don't worry about that too much."

Sabrina M. "What a stunning location. We were at Gas Works and the view was so beautiful from there, I wanted to continue the experience. I simply googled "wine" in the area and searched for waterfront options. We walked from Gas Works to Bowriders Grill, which was a little tricky. We arrived at the restaurant and found a sign that they're closed because of water issues ? Thankfully we explored further and saw people sitting at tables. Turns out we were actually at the restaurant next door called Westward. It was confusing but you have to walk down a pathway through a shipyard to get there. I'm glad we made the effort to figure it out. Beautiful restaurant with beautiful views and great service and great prices! Highly recommend!!"

It was a sunny day so lots of people were enjoying the sunshine. It can get quite busy but we came just before 3 pm so there were lots of tables open. They have good selection of beer-we had the Hawaiian POG kolsch $7 and the honey blonde $6.50. The POG was light and refreshing and the honey blonde was VERY good! The food was great!! The signature chowder is a must get and the monster fries (waffle fries loaded with pulled pork, peppers, cheese and bacon) was to die for. The pretzel had a light crispy crust and the inside was light- not the usual hard doughy stuff. We also had the honey glazed brussels sprouts with balsamic vinegar drizzle and large flakes of Parmesan cheese. All the dishes were great! The service was friendly and the place had a nice laid back vibe. Definitely will be returning!!"

Latifa S. "Gorgeous new place on the block!!Stunning new event space right in south lake union/ downtown with sweeping lake union views. Views alone were worth a trip or 4!! Came for the opening of this shiny new spot yesterday. A gorgeous 3,000 square foot event space that was completely remodeled: with in house catering, vendors, event planners, photo booths, musician! And the food. It was like going to a super fun wedding minus the formality of it. The owner was there as well: super passionate and shared the story of how she bought this space sight unseen: took a long process in turning this into a gorgeous space that it is now. It was super cool! And the food!! They allow outside catering too but the in-house catering: Kaspar catering : baos topped with micro greens and mint. Steamed to serve! Poke rolls :delicious!Panna cotta : in a cup!Lisa Dupar catering: this one was fantastic as I've had a chance to taste their food in the past at a wedding. The gorgeous cupcakes, macarons, molasses cookies and stunning cake. All were so pretty!Mark ryan wine! I mean, what's not to love as it's one of the wineries I frequent in Woodinville wine country. My pup baci's favorite too. Luxe Photo Booth: this one was so fun! The 360 Photo Booth!! I've seen them in Time Squares recently as well as at a valentines event. But this one was so much more fun as I didn't have to wait in line or fight the crowd for it. The person that was running it was super friendly and helpful too. The jazz musician was pretty rad too. And they had valet!! Butler Valet: All the friendly guys in uniform waiting for you as you arrived during rush hour in downtown: pretty darn cool. All events should be this cool. I'm only going to events with valet from now on! Ok thanks. Overall, this was such a fun place.I came to check out the space: left with all the food and fun.The space, the team, the design, the music!! And that Photo Booth: all are essential part of throwing an epic event. All events should be this fun!! I guess they will be if you throw them here: weddings, birthdays, corporate events, sweet 16th. I wouldn't mind coming here for a photoshoot: hello contents!!Or just a fun anything event.Did I mention the views?? Ahh the possibilities!!!"

But this is a bustling little historical society (Ballard's) and they deserve a lot of credit for the work they do. Education, restoration, preservation, celebration--they're making sure the history we have stays alive. There's so much to like about that, because it's not easy work, and it's all volunteer. We depend on people who have the right skills, schedule, and willingness to keep these kinds of projects afloat, and they're doing a great job here. Support them if you can."

The historic Admiral's House overlooking Elliott Bay has recently been remodeled, and is quietly making itself available as an event space for weddings & parties. The house and grounds can probably accommodate up to 150 people. Parking at the house is limited, so it's best to plan on offering valet parking for your guest. There is ample parking at the bottom of the hill under the Magnolia bridge. Inside the house, you'll find several rooms, including a bar and fireside room, as well as a large dining room with a dance floor. Outside, a circular driveway around the house offers access to an amazing view looking north over the bay. You'll look past the marina where the cruise ships dock to downtown Seattle and Mt. Rainier beyond. Voted best new place to have a wedding in 2014 by Seattle Magazine!"

Thai D. "My wife and I had our wedding at the Ruins and it was absolutely wonderful. If you don't already know, The Ruins has their own wedding planner, their own florist, and their own catering. Not having to shop around to find those separately helped a lot, and all of them are fantastic at their jobs. Madeline, the wedding planner for The Ruins, deserves every kind and wonderful word that has been on every review we have read. Planning a wedding is stressful, but every time we spoke with or met with Madeline, there was always some stress relieved because of how on top of everything she was and how confident she made us feel about our wedding. Her communication was always top notch, and she was always available to answer questions when we had them. During the day of the wedding, she kept things moving smoothly. Sarah, the Events Coordinator also did a great job working with Madeline to keep everything moving as well. The florist, Amanda, did a fantastic job with understanding the ambience we were going for in our conversations, and when we saw everything in person, she absolutely knocked it out of the park. The catering was delicious, our guests raved about the food. While my wife and I are both meat-loving omnivores, we had a number of guests that have dietary restrictions, and it was very easy to have delicious gluten-free and vegan options for them. They no longer have an in-house bakery, but they take care of the cake through Morfey's, and it turned out perfectly - both with how it looked and how it tasted. The photos on their website (as beautiful as they are) just can't compare with seeing the venue in person. There is a personality to the venue that is elegant, artistic and timeless. The ballroom is especially breathtaking. Our photographer said that the Ruins was so visually captivating that he couldn't take a bad shot if they tried. Our guests were so impressed with the beauty, uniqueness, and classiness of the venue, and stated it absolutely fit with my wife and I's unique style.Despite having our wedding during the pandemic, Madeline and the staff at the Ruins did a fantastic job navigating the changes and mandates that we were subject to, and ensuring us that we had a beautiful and unforgettable experience. I would recommend anyone to have their wedding or event at the Ruins. Not just because of the how visually impressive the venue is, but because everyone who works there does a fantastic job of making sure your event is perfect."

Let me just put it out there right now that I LOVED it, with a capital L. It is like going back in time. It was a wonderful escape from my little mundane life, and I just gobbled up every old-fashioned upper crust nuance. All the women are addressed by Mrs. So-and-so, like it's 1953, and the iced tea is very fancy and I loved it loved it loved it. As liberal and progressive as I try to be, there was just something in the nostalgia of it all that I soaked up like a sponge. And you know what was great? Seeing all these older women who'd taken/were taking good care of themselves, wearing stylish but not Grandma clothing, doing something social for a laugh. We're all going to be there some day and it gave me faith that I'll be able to handle it. Throughout the wedding planning, I went to the Thursday open house almost every week especially when it got closer to the wedding and Carrie was so patient with me when I came in to figure out decorations and turning the lights off and I'm constantly. And even within the year, they made small improvements here and there and it made all the difference :)We ended up getting the deluxe wedding package that included the ceremony hall and reception area for 2 days. That really helped with the setting up of everything. It turned out great and it really created the ambiance we were going for. In the end my clean up crew I assigned didn't do the greatest job cleaning up so we lost some of our deposit bc of that, but nothing that Kyle or Carrie did. Come take a break here vs. a big coffee chain where they also have hot chocolate - actual melted chocolate from around the world - and others to nibble, that's what I come in for as I don't do coffee.I've come in here and received a tour of their event space they have in the back for consideration of renting it out for a non-profit holiday party. It's a large room that holds up to 25 round tables or 299 people theatre style. They had a grand piano for rent, with a full kitchen and external catering was allowed and AV. It's an alternative small space for a company gathering or even a wedding on a budget. They also have a small conference room, for a lack of a better word, that holds up to 16 people that is available through reservations.Kakao is not open Saturdays-Sundays as they use those days for the events. In fact, when my friends and I visited this bar, we walked in and saw that most of the guests were in business attire and working on their laptops. It's definitely a gathering place for Microsofties and their clients and business partners. My friends and I visited W XYZ Bar after dinner, as it was walking distance from the restaurant that we ate at. On a Friday night the place had quite a few people there. Yet, we were able to sit further from the bar area, where all the comfy chairs were. I liked that this bar is more of a lounge, where people can relax, with hip hop in the background playing. When I asked the bartender what IPAs were on tap, she was a little confused at what breweries were which when she looked over where the beers were, but we saw the handles and figured it out ourselves. I ordered an IPA for my first round. And for my second round I ordered a Jameson on the rocks. She poured the Jameson in the glass first then put the ice on top instead of vice versa, which is how it's normally made. Because of so, the first thing I tasted was the block of ice that was stacked high and near the top of my glass. I wish it had been made the traditional way. We didn't order any food, but that's cool they offer grub. I'm sure hotel guests find this place to be a lifesaver and convenient. Glad to know this is in the area, in case I'm around and need a place for a drink. But it's far from the best bar experience. Yet, I did love seeing all the dogs around since Aloft is dog-friendly. It isn't to be missed though and actually suits it being that there isn't as much foot traffic. It gives Fair Isle a bit more an "exclusivity" to the rest.Fair Isle has a nice setting, the back patio is covered for a nice indoor/outdoor but a fair amount of outdoor counter seating as well as indoor seating. The decor also includes barrels which supports some of the beer's aroma and flavors. On my most visit I had the Syrah and Mataro, two red beers very similar to each other but the Mataro has an oakey taste and smell - I like it. The Syrah is smoother however with slight cherry notes and flavor - definitely my favorite. I had taste of the Mei Zi as well - also good, with a bit of zing in the after taste but not too much. It seems Fair Isle makes tries to distinguish itself from the other breweries as it just looks fancy and sophisticated. The layout, the glass room, the furniture. It looks like you're hanging out in some rich mogul's wine cellar, except it's a beer cellar and its beer you're drinking. Some of it looks like wine though, a lot of Fair Isle's beers even come in bottles. Posh.If you're looking to fancy up your beer experience while brewery hopping, come to Fair Isle."

Now as it goes with any wedding, it was not without hiccups but the staff, especially Reed, were great at working through any issues with me... and were patient with me. I required a lot of detail and a lot of talking me through things, and Reed was a peach! If you are considering using this venue for your wedding please consider the following:Raves:- The Vashon room has been almost completely redone and looks beautiful. Brand new carpet, large pendant lights. Gorgeous.- The mirror in the Vashon room is amazing to be next to during your ceremony while your back is to your guests. You're able to sneak quick peeks at your friends and family all while still being able to focus on your ever important vows.- There are four distinct spaces in this venue (studio, Vashon room, garden courtyard, and Emerald room) so it gives you a lot to play with in terms of decor. - Their prices are hard to beat. I did a lot of research before I settled on the Hall at Fauntleroy, and I don't know any other space that would have been able to give me such high quality service at the price they did.- The food is so, so, so good. Their catering company, Tuxedos and Tennis Shoes, is amazing.- Plenty of free street and parking lot parking. Downside:- There are no hotels in West Seattle so your guests will all either have to drive or take a $30-40 cab ride back in to downtown Seattle.- If you think you can use the Vashon room for the ceremony and the reception, you are probably wrong. There is just no good way to flip the room without having tables tackily "hidden" during the ceremony, so get over this idea right away. Either use the Emerald room for both the ceremony and the reception; get married out in the garden and use Vashon for the reception only; or use Vashon for the ceremony and Emerald for the reception (what we ended up doing after months of debate)."
