I started off with a bias against this place. I thought it was going to be too hip. The niche of "gin bar" made me roll my eyes. Turns out, we had a good time. Half-priced drinks during happy hour helped!Ambiance - it wasn't loud, it was chill and not pretentious (which is what I was expecting). The server was very nice, attentive and helpful.I got a (non-alcoholic) peach fuzz which was a nice shrub. My girlfriend got a gin drink we both liked, maybe a tom collins.Brussel sproutsF'n GOOD. Crunchy rice, well-cooked sprouts, LOTS of some kind of mayo-based sauce that had a great flavor. We both love condiments. Girlfriend thought they were mind-blowing. It was a large portion, too.FriesThey were plentiful, super crispy, not greasy. All-around very good fries, and believe me I've had my share. The aioli could have had more flavor.Black sesame beignetsVery good. Not hollow/puffy like Cafe du Monde beignets, more like square doughnuts. Not a strong sesame flavor, but a good flavor. The miso caramel was very very good and provided most of the flavor. I would have bought a jar of it if they'd offered. We'll definitely be back, they know what they're doing. Next time we'll try to sit next to the fireplace!

Went in to try this burger. My buddy and I see each other 1-2 times per year and it's always the burger spot in Chicago. We've been to them all. The burger came out quick and it was delicious but not our favorite in the city. Still it was good! That said, service was kind of blah. Our server was a bit interesting. My buddy is a big wine guy and he always brings a bottle for our burgers. That said, we pay the corkage fee and all is good. I don't think she was aware of this (that it's not a big deal) and literally said to my buddy when he brought out the bottle "are you serious?" Haha "we sell wine here she said next." I guess maybe she never heard of anyone bringing in their own bottle, which might I add is a bit odd? We've done it at every single place for two decades and never been told no. She did say it's something to do with the liquor license, which I guess I understand. No big deal we ordered wine & cocktails. Just thought that was weird and a bit off putting. Delivery is everything. Upside, we were sat quickly on a Friday and the fries and aioli were good. Definitely give the burger a try because we all have different favorites. Cheers~

You can have anything on the menu before 5 as long as you order from the Brunch menu. Im not a a burger person but my son and future son I law swears by it so who am I to argue. I had the sesame French toast; sweet, savory strangely weird but I like it. It's too rich - share it with someone. The steak sandwich is excellent. My issue is with the "to go" order. I told the bar tender I need it by 2:10 - 2:15. I got it around 2:30. Too late for my wife, daughter, her future mother in law they left at 2:18. He wasn't the fastest bar tender his speed was his speed and you just had to deal with that. He was nice mind you. You just knew you couldn't rush him. He said that in advance - the food will show up when it shows up. Oh well.

This place is a great for a late-night bite to eat! We came for dinner at around 7pm on a Friday night, so it was still relatively quieter when we initially sat down, but as the night went on it definitely got more bustling. The interior decoration is cute: the furniture is vintage and gives a baroque feel. It is also dimly lit, which contributes to the atmosphere.Service was attentive and fast. For cocktails, we had the Corn Fed and Swizzle #44. The alcohol was a bit strong on both of these drinks and drowned out the other flavors in the cocktails. Given that this is a gin-focused bar, I would be curious to come back and try their gin and tonic. The food definitely impressed me more than the drinks (however, I am less of an avid alcohol drinker). We got the Fire Chicken Scallion Pancake, Brussels Sprouts, Scofflaw Burger, and Black Sesame Beignets. Everything was pretty good, and I enjoyed the fusion of Asian flavors, but the standout for me was the Fire Chicken Scallion Pancake. It is a bit annoying that the burger does not automatically come with fries, and to add fries it is the same price as ordering the separate appetizer. I expected the Black Sesame Beignets to have a stronger black sesame flavor, but the black sesame seeds were only sprinkled on the top.I highly recommend stopping by here with friends for a drink and to grab a bite to eat!

We enter at 12:02am. "LAST CALL IS IN 30 MINUTES," says the handsome host. We ask the host for the famous midnight cookies...(it's our friend's birthday) and he says, "The cookies go out at midnight." That was 2 minutes ago! "I'll ask." He comes back and gives us one cookie (5 of us in the group). We all gleefully cheer for the birthday girl, as she will indeed get her cookie, and he puts his hand out in our faces and widens his eyes (basically, imagine your popular high school mean girl disgusted and giving you an eye roll). It was so rude that it was funny. Then he tells us last call is in 25 minutes. Then the waitress comes and tells us last call is in 30 minutes. By then we fully understood....it was almost last call. We order beers. Then the waitress comes out with 7 cookies for us!!! We were so happy. I bumped up the review from 3 stars to 4. I'm writing this in real time, people! THEN, a cook comes out from the kitchen at 12:21am and asks, "Who's the birthday girl?" And hands the birthday girl a to-go box. What's inside? 5 more cookies!!!!! The birthday girl's reaction: "Life is precious." But tbh...how did only one cookie left turn into a dozen more cookies?? LONG STORY LONG - We went from feeling like kicked puppies, to puppies getting unwrapped on Christmas Day. The host was an unwelcoming, spicy guy and the waitress and everyone else were very sweet and kind. If it wasn't for Mr. Throat Tattoo Host, we would have felt compelled to leave a fatter tip, but to be honest, he left a bad taste in our mouth. Some felt targeted. Also, the burger is fire here (we tried it yesterday night).

Stopped in for a cocktail before dinner. The space is very nice along with the outside patio. When we entered and we're about to sit we were approached by someone in the back who bee-lined it for us to check our IDs prior to us sitting. It was a little aggressive considering they were dead on a Monday and he could have politely waited till we sat since he wasn't sitting at his post. Bartenders were extremely friendly. Cocktails were delicious. Their happy hour seems intriguing also.

Scofflaw is a must go for cocktail bars in Chicago! From the cute chairs in the back room, to the fireplace, to the cookies at midnight, the vibes are always immaculate! They have a solid cocktail selection and while they have a smaller food menu, I've never had anything there that I didn't love. I always look for a reason to come back!

One of my favorite bars in Chicago! The (gin) drinks here are all great. The vibes inside are pretty cozy and is good for couples or for small to medium-sized groups with varied seating options. There's also a patio outside for the summer. The service is also pretty good. The servers are always pretty nice and are willing to give recommendations. I don't know if they still do it, but, prior to the pandemic, at midnight servers would pass out freshly baked chocolate chip cookies, which was always a good time.Honestly, the only thing keeping this place from being perfect is the food. It's an asian fusion menu, and the food is just fine. For example, the butter chicken uses a katsu style chicken. The texture of the chicken was nice, but the flavor of the curry was super bland.Additionally, the fries are pretty bad now. Prior to the change in chefs, the fries at scofflaw were some of the best in the city. They were perfectly crisp while being fluffy inside. Now, the fries are a soggy mess. Our table couldn't finish our order of fries because no one liked them.

Even wanting to come here for years as we live right behind it. Prior attempts were failed due to they are very strict on carding and 21+ age, no kids or babies at all not even on patio. So mom and dad finally got a night out and a reservation! Definitely need one. Opened at 5p on Friday already booked to 7p. It gets packed in here. But super cute ambiance. A more business professional side of the bar like a library and a more romantic fairy tale side of the bar was beautiful for a date night. They were full of people but the tables are beautiful, unique, comfy, and seated far enough away you still feel intimate. The food was overrated to me. My husband enjoyed it but for us wanting and waiting to come here, I was a little underwhelmed. I had the scofflaw burger. Literally 2 Pattie's, cheese, pickles, and some white sauce. Didn't ask how I wanted it. Came well done. Was a decent burger. Nothing to run home about. The fries were good. The Brussels sprouts w rice and sausage was the best part. So tasty. The charcuterie board was fun and tasty. The cocktails were good. I had a simple greyhound. My husband tried a fancy drink, said it was strong and tasty but didn't finish it. Overall. We enjoyed our date. Food ok. Prob only come back for drinks, charcuterie, and patio in future.
