Come here to get freshly made tortilla. And some crazy lady working in the tortilla spot told me I couldn't take pictures! She looked like she wanted to grab my phone and I told her to calm down. No where in the entrance does it says I can't take pictures or by the tortilla place. Maybe their trying to hide something?

As far as authentic Mexican groceries this is the best. In a spirit of transparency this is a homer review as I grew up less than a block away. If I lived in East village I would skip Albertson's and come here for anything I needed that Sawaya sells. The groceries are inexpensive and nice. You aren't going to have a large selection of craft beer but If you are making guacamole and don't want to drain your wallet come here. The hot food and tortillas are the real MVPs. The chipotle chicken!!! I inhale it every time I get it. The costillas en salsa verde o roja are just phenominal. The tortillas are fresh and awesome. The pan dulce is meh but Lucy's is a few blocks away so it doesn't matter.The thing I detest is the $0.75 fee for credit of debit. That is highway robbery. Its like stealing from the poor.

The food is pretty good and great deals. But the person that gives you the first food her name is Abby she charges for cactus juice so I will not be buying any salads that have liquid in them I refuse to pay six dollars for cactus salad that is half filled with liquid do better please.

So the food is good but come earlier for sure cuz the food kinda cooks all day. The reason this place gets 2 stars in becuz i ordered the combo and they left out the rice and beans AND tortillas.

came here once a few years back to see what all the hype was about (and was visiting a family friend who moved down to san diego). after looking around for a few minutes, happened to see a large RAT scurrying across the floor! this was in broad daylight, so imagine what was going on there at night, smh. the positive reviews of this place are from people who have very low cleanliness standards. you can tell from the outside that this place is a walking infestation of filth. obviously didn't buy anything, and am surprised to see that it's still in business!

I came to get fresh tortillas and after waiting for at leastAn hour, tortilla machine stop working, this is crazy, I went to talk to the owner and he said it's what it's I also notice a rat running under shelf, this is disgusting after too long this market been functioning ot should be a 5 start store, cheap owners never want to invest and improve their business.
