Our first time at River Street Marketplace on a weekday. Due to the warm weather, there were a lot of people dining outside. We checked out the menus at many restaurants and found that they offer the standard American fare of burgers, salads, sandwiches etc. We ordered burgers at the Meat Cellar which were juicy but quite messy to eat. The fries were over done. Our dark pants had lint from the white napkins when we got up to leave. I recall many years ago, one particular restaurant gave us a black or white napkin depending on what we were wearing to avoid this situation.Three stars for the friendly server.

Meat + cheese + wine + bar + restaurant + store = The Market by the Meat Cellar! We had lunch here and sat outside. The patio is right next to the mini zoo so expect to hear and smell the animals We had the charcuterie board with both meat and cheese. It was delicious! I ordered the fancy burger and hubby had the Australian wagyu ribeye a6 with fries for the table. Hubby said his ribeye was done perfectly while my burger was a bit over cooked. Our waitress was friendly, helpful and attentive. The store was also amazing. We picked up a handful of cheeses and were given samples before deciding which ones we wanted to buy. Definitely a fun place to visit!

In the history of poutine I've never been disappointed by a good classic poutine. Give me some savory grave and squeaky cheese curds over some lightly seasoned fries and I'm a happy camper. It's only when you start freestyling with variations and upgrades fusion-style that disasters happen. Adding meat to the dish? Not a huge problem. But when you start messing with the cheese, replacing the gravy, or making the fries all funky--we may have a problem,I won't say The Market's poutine was a disaster. It was actually good. The fries were made well and had good heft, the gravy was nice and smooth and buttery. And the short rib just added so much oomph to the dish. The problem was the cheese. Not only did they change the curds for some kind of cheese sauce but there was not nearly enough of it. It felt less like poutine and more like short rib gravy fries with a cameo by cheese. It tasted like cheese curds had called in sick today, and cheese curds' understudy had to sub in wholly unprepared for the performance. The space was good and funky--like a butcher shop just moved in with a restaurant in an Odd Couple situation. And the service was very friendly.I would eat here again because the rest of the menu looked good. But I'd have to reconsider the poutine.

My fiancé and I went here for lunch and were seating right away. The space is large, open, and welcoming. You can sit inside or outside. You can shop before or after you eat. There are little knick knacks as well as meat. There was a reusable coloring placemat that several different kids picked up - genius. It took a little bit for us to get our server, but when she got around to us, she apologized and was friendly. The food came out in a reasonable time. The salad was fine - the meat was cooked to the right temperature, but there was nothing that stood out. My lobster roll was underwhelming for me. There was very little lobster under the large slab of Swiss cheese. It was mostly the roll. Ps: I'm not a fan of Swiss cheese and the menu didn't call that out. If it has, I wouldn't have gotten this. The chips were under seasoned and the fries were over seasoned. This was a miss. Given the pricing and what we received, we would not come back. There are a lot of other options in the marketplace and the surrounding area that would go to first.

I've been to the Claremont location and really enjoyed myself. Today my wife and I came to SJC for a day of fun. We had breakfast at Ramos House and then wandered over to this new river area. We actually didn't know it existed, but we were pleasantly surprised and even more so when we saw the meat cellar!!! Love to support family and the meat cellar is part of our Anaheim family through the Colony Wine Merchant! Had wonderful steaks and Mac, along with cocktails at two different visits during the day! Highlights:Best oysters Best MacBest martini!!!!

My husband and I went to check out the new River Street shops over the weekend. We wandered into the Market by the Meat Cellar and saw that they not only were a butcher shop, they also served food as well. We asked about the wait for two people and were told 2 hours. We were also informed that the seating at the bar was open so we'd have to wait for people to vacate. My husband went over to the bar to check it out and instantly made friends with the patrons there. They let him know they were done and leaving within 5 minutes so we waited patiently for them to close out their tabs so we could sit. The bartender Johannes was super friendly. We ordered some water and perused the menu. We decided on the short rib poutine because it's made with beef tallow and a decadent cheese sauce. It is quite the photogenic dish and very shareable. I'm glad we didn't order anything else because it was enough for two people. However, it was VERY SALTY. After a few bites, I thought it was enough. I asked my husband if he thought it was salty too and he likes salty food. He definitely decided it was too salty as well. We let Johannes know and he asked how he could make it right. We just asked for them to remake it and ease up on the salt. When it came out again, it was the right amount of savory. We were really happy with the service. While we didn't order much, we'll make it another trip back to try their dry aged steaks.

We stopped by The Market without reservations on a Friday evening and were lucky to get 3 spots at the oyster bar. The host was friendly and accommodating, and our waiter was very attentive.Drinks were great. My wife loved her wine flight, "A Taste of Paso Robles," and they had a tasty selection of craft beers. My wife and I both ordered the Fancy Burger with parmesan truffle fries. It was truly one of the best burgers we've had in a long time... top quality delicious thick meat patty with flavorful ingredients accompanying it. The fries were perfectly seasoned too. We were happy that they had good choices for kids; our daughter said she enjoyed her buttered pasta dish and shirley temple.Overall, it was a great meal with great service!Next time we'll make reservations and try some of their steaks and side dishes.

Shared a charcuterie board, steak frites and brussel sprouts with my husband tonight at the bar. The bartenders were lovely. Great vibe, great food and good value! Cocktails are huge. I love going somewhere fancy and getting great service and not feeling like I've been over-charged. If you are going to a restaurant in the Riverwalk this is definitely my favorite.
