I was extremely disappointed in the food here. Found this sushi bar on Yelp and it was within walking distance of Balboa Bay Club so I thought I would walk down and try it out. They offer a set menu with 3 options and also a limited a la carte menu. After sitting at the sushi bar and scrolling the menu I decided to go with their set menu. The middle choice was $180 which is definitely the higher end but I was thinking it would be awesome at that price point. It wasn't. The appetizer they served was just weird. The taste was off and the servings were extremely small. I ate about half of it and wanted it away from me. Then came the actual sushi. The first piece was like an albacore and I literally almost threw it up. Was room temperature and tough. I gagged when I ate it. Then the rest of the sushi was so average. Fish didn't taste fresh and the sushi chef kept telling me and the group next to me that he already put soy sauce on it and we don't need to put more. Well, I needed more soy just to choke it down. By this time I just want my bill so I can take this $200+ loss and just move on with my life. They bring the bill and automatically added a 20% gratuity to my bill. I was a party of one at the sushi bar and you automatically hit me with the gratuity? Bill was $240+ for just me and it was terrible. I have been to some of the most high end sushi spots in California and this place is nothing like those.

Came here for lunch around 1 pm on a Thursday. The interior was very modern and neat. We ordered two omakase sets. It was near closing time, so the chef rushed to make all courses. Although he rushed, you can tell he's experienced based on how clean the preparation was. I was also pleased that the staff seemed to be entirely Japanese and I was even offered a box to store my purse in. Every piece tasted clean and my favorite was definitely the tuna or toro. The red miso was also new as most restaurants don't offer that. The price is a bit high, especially just for a simple lunch. However, I do appreciate how traditional and simple the menu is as there are much more modern omakase places that put unnecessary condiments with the fish. Staff was also attentive in terms of clearing dishes and keeping our tea filled.

Went to their Kaiseki experience for a friend's birthday. The courses were amazing with good pacing. They kept an attentive eye on us. We didn't feel rushed but they were very fast at giving us the next course once we finished our previous one. Food- delicious food with the sushi chefs preparing it in front of you. They were super nice and explained each dish to us. Their tuna, just, wow!Service- very attentive staff. Very efficient. Courteous staff. They always made sure we had our water filled and if we needed more drinks.Ambiance- very chill with soft music in the background. Minimalistic decor that really matched with the overall vibe of the place.

3.5. The fish was very good. But very expensive for lunch and they really kinda rush you. The second you finish a piece the next one is there waiting. I think we were out of there in 45 minutes which didn't feel great when I paid the $300 bill. Its a nice place and maybe dinner is different, but I'm good with the other high end options around town.

We've been doing regular lunches at Sushi ii. The chirashi has been our first choice, but we recently tried their nigiri omakase. It starts with a small appetizer, 10 pieces of the finest sushi including Hokkaido uni, miso soup and small dessert. The server is quick to refill your tea and the place is always serene with a gorgeous Ikebana arrangement in the background.

Clean looking place. The service staffs were wonderfully attentive. We were seated right at the bar and got the full view of the chef at work plating up the beautifully kaiseki set. Everything was wonderful, except for one main item... And that is the food. For $275 pp for kaiseki, I was expected to be wowed, and unfortunately, my palate's response was a lukewarm of... meh...nothing to really be impressed.

Excellent Sushi! Wish the pricing was more friendly so I can visit more often. But they are targeting very high end customers

This was the worst sushi omakase experience I've ever had. And I've eaten a lot of sushi. I wanted to throw up midway. The place smelt like a fish market, the sushi chefs were being so careless the way they handled the fish, the cuts were bad, seasoning was bad, and wasabi was too much. Most of the fish was fishy or chewy. Overall terrible experience. Even the miso soup was undrinkable. $400 for 2 people for lunch. Money down the drain. Save yourself the money and skip the place.

One of the best authentic Japanese restaurants in South Orange County - hands down. We love it for the quality and 10/10 service. Of course you're going to pay for omakase, don't trust the reviews who are complaining about quality.Chef Ii is the owner / operator and master sushi Chef and takes very good care of his customers and strives for perfection.Treat yourself and enjoy a meal at Sushi Ii!
