Shane’s Tamales

I just finished a early afternoon in Los Angeles and was feeling kind of tired by the time I got back to Orange County and decided to take a moment to chill and grab something to eat I was torn between checking this place out and next door, so I decided to get both.So initially I thought this place was called subvegan because the signage on the top still said it's subvegan. however, once I got in I saw that it was Shane's tames I think they might be vegan as well.It was quite quaint and small very little space open kitchen however, what really blew me away was a flavor of the food! I ordered the Tinga bowl. It was so tasty I scarf that down immediately and wish I had ordered a second one.I will very, definitely be coming back and getting more. And I highly recommend you come over here and try the variety of items.

Tamales so good my husband and I came back a week later!We can't get enough of these tamales. You can't even tell they are vegan. They are fantastic! Shane and his mother make an amazing tamale! My favorite is the green chile and the bean & cheese. Both are really good! The masa is great. These tamales are stuffed pretty well too. Service is always top notch. Shane is great at serving and making sure you have what you need. Ambiance is very casual, and perfect to take some tamales home. I have a feeling that we will be hitting Shane's very often. :)

Friends recommendation on temales. It's in the plaza where it took over Sub-vegan sandwiches, which close over for 6 months, and next to vegan pizza joint.Inside is still being renovating since they are new and it only has two tables. Order the loaded boat with rice and beans while friend got the nonloaded version. $5 difference will give you sour cream, pickled veggies and pico de gaio and something else. Comes with a complimentary hibiscus or something else (don't know if this comes when you order the combo or eating inside)Friend say the temples is homemade and you can tell if you concentrate on the flavors by itself. I say it's good because the owner didn't lie when it comes the loaded boat combo is hearty full. Overall, highly recommend if in the mood for temales

We've been ordering vegan tamales from Shane's long before they opened in GG. The tamales is superb!!! Shane is always going out of his way to deliver fresh out of the oven tamales and at a great price too. You'll be hooked once you try these tamales.

Highly recommend Shane's tamales :). We ordered the pork red chile, chicken green chile, beans and cheese with rajas, and spinach & crema tamales. They were excellent! My favorites were the chicken green chile and beans and cheese with rajas tamales. I love that they add pico de gallo, cashew crema, guac, pickled onion, cilantro, and salsa on top. The pickled onions go really well with the tamales. The agua de tamarindo with jamaica was so good too! Very creative and refreshing. Shane was so friendly and welcoming. He explained the menu very well and was attentive. They have a few tables where you can sit inside. You'll know you found the place when you see the "tamal" sign outside the window.

Contemplating moving to CA just for these tamales- the pic speaks for itself in my opinion.

I have been craving great tamales for a while now! I drove to this plaza but couldn't find the name Shane Tamales. The sign says Vegan Sub at the time of this review. Everything is still being worked out so please don't let this deter you. I got the 3 loaded boat tamales and an extra tamale on the side. I only tried the pork and chicken flavors. I also got a grape agua fresca that was delicious! I expected a fake grape flavor for some reason (it's the American in me) but it tasted like fresh grapes, unlike anything I've ever had before. I really recommend this place for anyone looking for tamales and in bulk. At the moment, the place seems to be more of a take-out situation than a casual dine-in. Their service is stellar and tamales even better!

Legit hole in the wall type place, we almost missed it because it had a vegan sub sign above it. In town for NABT conference, and wanted a quick snack/bite to eat. Decided to try chik'n and "pork" made from mushrooms with spicy sauce. We got it "loaded" which was cashew cream, the spicy sauce, pico and pickled onions, etc. We can never find vegan tamales like this by us (back home in IL). These were DELICIOUS! The masa was fresh, not dry at all the fillings were equally tasty. We each had one... if I had been going for a whole meal I would've got the 3 loaded. The hibiscus drink was also great and complimentary. The lovely person working the front was so helpful, kind and generous!

I had the two loaded boats with rice and beans. It was very tasty and I would visit again. The vegetables were crisp and not overcooked. The service was good with a very personable and attentive owner-operator.

Absolutely delicious vegan tamales, service was great and fast. So fresh and great options. Highly recommend!!!
