Sakae Sushi

sorry to say, but this location is closed due to a fire about a year ago. I'm not sure exactly when it'll be reopened, but I peaked in today September 2 and they are installing the flooring so they got quite a ways to go.

This place is so cute! We went on a Monday night so it wasn't crowded but lots of pick up orders were coming in. There's maybe 4 tables and the sushi bar area. My advice? Get the sexy girl! My group totally didn't want it cause it didn't have rice but I really wanted to try it. It was so good we ordered another one.We also got the red dragon, which was okay, the Newport roll was bomb,

Wow, such a great sushi spot! I have been to this place a couple times before and I was happy to be in Newport today to take my fiancé there.We brought our dog Lexi with us so we sat outside tonight. Perfect weather, a bit of a louder crowd sitting at the table next to us (apparently the saki is really good and really strong).I had the Oh Baby, spicy tuna wrapped in tuna and avocado w/ sprouts on the top. I don't like a lot of rice this had no rice. This came with 6 very large pieces made me feel comfortable for the cost for just this roll $20. It was worth every penny, very filling and tasty. The tuna was very fresh and high quality sushi grade tuna.I also tried the spicy edamame and gyoza. My fiancé kept it simple with a Tiger roll and California roll. Both items she thought were tasty.We will be back here again, hopefully very soon to redeem the free bottle of hot sake you get when checking in .

Love this little hole in the wall. If you come in on a weekend/end of the week- you may be waiting a little. But it's worth it. The rolls are definitely priced fairly. I will often do to go. The staff is super nice. I recommend the rainbow roll, balboa roll, and Washington roll but they are all so good.

I wonder if this Sakae Sushi is related to the Sakae Sushi in South Bay, Gardena.... well, regardless, I enjoyed my visit to Sakae. a few things to know before you head there: 1) Post Covid mitigation procedures in place. 2) Check in at the door as they are a constant stream of patrons. You may have to wait, depending on when you get there3) If you have the pleasure of dining on the sushi bar, please share a small sip of sake with the sushi masters4) Order you yaki and prepared foods first as it does take some time5) Both food and adult beverages priced right. Seafood fresh, Sake abundant, Seats limited as I think it seats thirty MAX!, Service excellent, Parking limited anyone's guess, like I said depends on the time you head there.If you choose take out, place your order by phone and add 10 minutes to the pick up time quoted you. Either dine in or take out, please know the process of at Sakae is old school but you will not be disappointed

This very small restaurant with two tables and a sushi bar area so be aware you may have a wait for some great fish. Fish was beautiful and fresh. We tried a little bit of everything I had a Sashimi Roll No rice but the presentation made it look like a roll with rice. Salmon collar was crisp and if you like Sake Bombs you are in the right spot. They do have hot food but are table did not sample. The spicy garlic edamame was great but share with a friend because the garlic is overpowering and garlic breath is not as noticeable when everyone has had some.This is a great spot. Check what on special and prepare to enjoy.

Everything was amazing and beautiful. Fish was fresh and the rolls were perfect. And the waiter was super helpful and nice as well! Would definitely go again.

Excellent little sushi place 1 block off the beach in Newport Beach. Started with the Garlic Edamame (delicious) and some Sapporo beer. Followed up with some Salmon Sashimi (fresh fresh), a Rainbow Roll and a Red Dragon Roll (both excellent). The Langostino Roll was tops! Great little place walking distance from the Pier.

Best sushi I ever had. Such a cute interior and the best location. The waiters and sushi chefs are hilarious and very kind. Great experience.
