Komeya Sushi and Grill

This sushi and hand roll spot has been on my radar for quite some time. Today was my first time visiting Komeya Sushi and I'm bummed that I didn't dive in sooner. This sushi spot specializes in fresh takeout style Japanese bites. They have a menu stacked with sushi rolls, hand rolls, ramen, and hot plates. I was also impressed by their sushi platters. They offer each of their menu items as a sushi roll or hand roll form. I ordered the veggie and the blue crab hand rolls. I loved the extra crunch of the veggie roll. This was packed with carrots, avocado, zucchini, and guac. The flavor profile was a mix of both sweet and salty. The blue crab rolll was also a great pick. Filled with the most flavorful crab. I'll definitely be back to explore more of their menu or to purchase a sushi platter for my next get together.

Super friendly. Appears to be family own. Made to order and items for grab & go. Located in the Brookhurst Plaza next to Trader Joe's. *student discount Wednesdays 10%*They have a couple table seatings outside and inside. Signage said closed at 7pm, but I came around 7:15pm and they were open taking orders . I think they close around 7:30 depending on volume of orders in-person & phone ordersI got the sashimi deluxe bowl. Very fresh thick slices of fish, and good portions of Uni, salmon roe. So far has been my favorite sashimi bowl I've had in a really long time.

This is our GO TO SUSHI place in HB!!! The owner is so cool and friendly. She and her husband are the owners. From Japan originally with Hawaiian influences. If you love spam and sushi this is your place!!! The food is amazing. Their menu is HUGE!! Sushi, Noodles and More and cooked/made SO FRESH. We stopped here initially on a whim as we saw their signage from the street. Their Butterfly Lemonade with Passion Fruit Boba POPS so satisfyingly in your mouth. The Spicy Edamame is delectable. She recommended the Albacore Crispy Onion Roll and it's my new favorite. The California Sushi roll is my 8.5 year olds son's go to along with the Spicy Edamame. It's a great little place to dine in or take out or stop by before or after Huntington Dog Beach or Huntington Dog Park. Or anytime!!!

Still as good as the first time we came! Happily greeted and they've expanded their menu. + Sushi Combo C ($18): perfect fish to rice ratio for the nigiris. Fresh, delicious fish (8/10)+ Edamame ($4): lots of salted edamame + Fresh Wasabi ($2): a must for me, I love their fresh wasabi, which is more chunky

Very casual, low key sushi place that also has hot noodles, musubi, rice bowls, and several appetizers. It's mainly a takeout place but does have few tables and chairs inside and outside. Everything is served in takeout containers even if you dine in. Menu is quite extensive so it's best to study the menu before arriving. My family and I were coming straight from the beach so didn't have time to look at the menu beforehand, but the young lady at the register was very patient and helpful in explaining the menu and making suggestions. We ordered Komeya Udon, Sashimi (or chirashi) Bowl, Fried Shrimp Shumai, CA roll, and Salmon Cal Roll (CA roll with salmon on top). Everything tasted fresh, and the broth on udon was excellent. I was impressed the sashimi bowl came with two pieces of jumbo scallop, which is quite rare in a typical sashimi bowl. It's located in the same plaza as Trader Joe's so there's plenty of parking, although most of them were taken at the time we arrived.

The sweetest Japanese owner! All of the food was so amazing. I was surprised to find sushi was fresh and delicious for such a small casual place. Very affordable too. All of the sides were yummy. Curry udon had perfect texture. Great customer service, clean inside, only 3 small tables I think. I would highly recommend and would definitely come back.

Overall, for a quick bite to eat, we were driving in from vegas and stopped by here. Little spot and quick, quality food. We got the crunch roll with sushi combo C special. Tasty! The lady working the counter was super nice and gave us water for our dog as well. Small spot so don't think you'll be dining inside for an experience- more of a sushi on the go type place in a shopping center.

I was in the Trader Joe's Plaza on Brookhurst & Hamilton, and saw that Komeya (rice shop) had a soft opening. They offer sushi, sashimi and rice plates/bowls, including katsu curry. This is a casual place primarily for take out, although they do have a few outdoor tables. The prices are very reasonable.I had the tonkatsu (pork cutlet) curry, while others I was with had the chicken nanban (karaage w/ a white sweet & sour sauce), yakiniku beef and unagi avo roll.I really liked the curry. The texture was smooth, and it had a little kick to it. In addition, the pork was moist and nicely seasoned. I had a piece of the unagi avo roll, and it was better vs most sit down sushi places. Lastly, my companions who had the other dishes really enjoyed the uniqueness of the sauce w/ the chicken nanban, and the flavor of the yakiniku beef. The latter has a good marinade.The restaurant is owned by two hard working couples that live in the area. They were super friendly. Our food came out quickly.Komeya fills a void in the area: A casual sushi/sashimi and rice plate/bowl shop w/ reasonable prices. I can imagine that the TJ employees will frequent Komeya bc there is a dearth of quick options in the plaza. Secondarily, nearby high schoolers will likely flock here when school is back in session later this month. Its good grab & go food. Lastly, State Beach is at the foot of Brookhurst. I can see beachgoers picking up food on the way to the beach, or grabbing some food for the way home. I wish this new business success!

This place scratches my Japan itch and is comparable to the fish market sashimi places in Kyoto.Absolutely delicious, fresh, great bang for your buck especially the sashimi bowl.
