Katsuyaki

Take out order: Crust on the Katsu chicken plate was phenomenal! And they give you 1 gyoza with the plate in addition to rice and coke slaw. Hubby had the garlic shrimp plate that was also exceptional! Their garlic sauce was a little oily but we weren't counting calories that day and mixed w the rice...magnificent! Shrimp was fresh!First time I've been and will def go back!

I always past by here to and from work - and I'm glad I stopped by!I got the most popular item (chicken katsu burger) and it was by far the best chicken sandwich I've ever had.Crispy, with excellent texture. I expected it to be greasy, but it wasn't greasy whatsoever! The owner (Axel) mentioned that they make everything fresh per day and you can definitely feel the love in every bite.Service was quick, and they also gave me a side of chili oil which excellently pairs with the chicken.Pretty fun ambiance as well, modern and lots of space. Will come back again!

Went for lunch yesterday with my daughter who attends college down the street. I had read the reviews beforehand which helped lead us here in the first place. The reviews were accurate! My daughter had her favorite - teriyaki chicken and rice bowl. I had the teriyaki chicken and chicken Katsu rice bowl with veggies. The broccoli and carrots were fresh and steamed but remained crispy. Everything was delicious!The restaurant was clean and the staff were helpful and friendly! We will definitely be back!

If you're in the mood for some chicken katsu, this place is a good option. The plates were good but stick with the katsu, I ordered the beef bulgogi which was fatty but Joel's katsu was great. The shrimp tempura was also pretty tasty. Next time we will try the katsu burger and fries. The staff here were so friendly and helpful!

Still in love with Katsuyaki. They have changed their menu a bit so if you haven't been in for a while, come on back! They have added bulgogi and it is delicious! The prices are still super reasonable and customer service exceptional. Axel treats everyone like they are his best customer.

Really enjoyed this place. We were in the area waiting for traffic to die down & saw this place on the map. So glad we tried it out! We ordered the chicken katsu sandwich, which was delicious! Had the perfect amount of crunch and the spicy mayo sauce to dip it in, was a great addition to the sandwich. Also ordered the chicken katsu plate (order this with a side of curry, SO YUM) & another plate with beef & chicken teriyaki. Everything we ordered was tasty. Didn't get the cashier's name, but he was so friendly and gave great customer service to everyone dining in.

Katsuyaki is a fast casual eatery with the flagship location in Santa Clara and a secondary location here in Costa Mesa. It started out as Ed's Teriyaki in 1978, renamed to Greenfish Teriyaki Cafe in 2016, and finally became Katsuyaki in 2021.[Parking]: Easy and free parking.[Menu]: For katsu or teriyaki, customers can order bowl (rice / broccoli / carrots), bento (rice / miso salad / 3 California rolls / 1 dumpling), or kids (same as bowl but smaller size). In addition they also sell chicken katsu burger which is also another popular option to order.***#4 Chicken Teri + Beef Teri (Pan-grilled chicken and beef beautifully glazed in a savory teriyaki sauce - bento $15.45): California rolls tasted mediocre, but chicken and beef teriyaki were excellent and teriyaki sauce wasn't overly salty.***4.5-star on food, but bump down due to slightly hefty price tag for bento. Personally bowl offers better value than bento.

Amazing food. I was a little suspicious when I pulled up. But let me say, everyone was nice! They suggested some items on the menu and the hit the nail on the head. #5 Chicken Katsu and Teriyaki Bowl - 10/10 - some of the best chicken teriyaki I've ever had! Amazing!! The rice was also fabulous. The chicken katsu is good, but the teriyaki was the star of this. Katsuburger - 9/10 - I had to try this. It's lovely! It's chicken breast and a little different breading and it's fabulous to have. A little messy and I asked for some spicy mayo - which made it even better. Definitely try this place!

To be honest the food isn't "bad" but just a little plain. And for less than $20 for two items, they are fair. The person was nice and I waited for no more than 10 minutes so I was happy.The bowl tasted fresh and not overly seasoned, which is nice. The rice was done right (I'm Asian and this is critical).The katsu chicken was very dry, but it was hefty. I wish it weren't breast but thigh, which may be a good solution. I am not a fan of the sauce, which is a little too sweet but not adding much to the fried chicken. The brioche bread was good, but it was very soggy at the bottom, but I guess that was the trade-off for having it to go? Or you could ask to have the sauce on the side if you want a better burger experience.

The chicken katsu here is unreal. Probably the best I've had. I will certainly be back here soon. 10/10 would recommend!
