Good vibe and food, but a bit pricy for the portion. We had a reservation at 6 PM and glad we did because it was poppin. They have variety of sushi, japanese appetizer, main, and desserts. For drinks we got a sake flight each ($18 for 5 shots) and two sapporo beers.Food, we got ankimo, saba mackeral, sushi, maitake tempura, kara age, shrimp ball, and basque cheesecake.Sushi (6 pieces)-8/10-very buttery one of the better sushi i have had, shrimp was tasty.Ankimo (8/10)-didn't have an after taste good flavorSaba Shioyaki (6/10)-pretty standard, could have had more salt, something i can make myself at homeShrimp Ball (7/10)-pretty standard, pretty pricy at 4 pieces for $12Kara age (6/10)-crispy and not overly salty, but not the best i've hadMaitake tempura (5/10)-needs more salt and a bit soggyBasque cheesecake (8.5/10)-best thing we had tonight, super creamy and not too sweet, could have used some fruitsOverall the bill was $200 without tip so pricy for the amount we ordered.Service was super busy since it was packed, overall food is authentic but overpriced. Good place to go on a treat meal.

The food is amazing! Personally myFavorite is the grilled mackerel set! The fish is marinated and grilled to perfection. The server was very attentive and welcoming as well which made the food taste even better! He also makes the desserts too! I had this dessert set where I can have a taste of little bits of all the desserts they have and that suggestion was perfect! The food, service, price and the atmosphere is wonderful! Will definitely come back!

Kappo Sui feels like an OG neighborhood spot - if you know you know. A friend in town found this on Yelp for an impromptu group dinner. None of the eight of us locals who were invited to dinner had ever heard of this spot. Considering the location in the heart of OC, prices are quite friendly. Barebones decor, with an L-shaped sushi bar that seats maybe a dozen and banquette seating for maybe twice that amount along the wall. There were perhaps four or five personnel working the whole restaurant on our visit, which made for a space that felt severely understaffed. Refills, questions, and order updates were difficult to come by on our visit, as staff would dart by without even a glance towards our general direction. There were three or four orders of the $40 chirashi box at our table and somehow, one box arrived over thirty minutes later than the others. My orders of Fire-Grilled Yellowtail Collar ($13.50) and Fried & Grilled Eggplant ($8.50) arrived in reasonable time and offered some exceptional value but an order of Cold Soba with Yam ($16.00) never arrived, forcing a cancellation about 80 minutes into our seating. While both of the items received were expert preparations of flame-coaxed umami indulgence, the utter lack of ability of staff to tend to tables would likely keep Kappo Sui low on the revisit list.

Amazing Food and Service! My family and I have been coming to Kappo Sui for years, and we are never disappointed by the meal and wonderful service. The quality of the sushi is some of the best in Orange County, and they have amazing Japanese comfort food that can be hard to find at other restaurants. All staff members are so friendly and generous. There is such a lovely calm atmosphere in here, would make for a perfect date night or intimate dinner.

Another amazing experience at Kappo Sui for omakase! I've been back a few times and it's been a while - but the food and service was excellent and you always feel like family here! Quality sushi and yummy appetizers and courses in between!//CONTEXT//Came here as a party of two for omakase. It was my friends first time trying omakase and wanted her to have a good first experience. Made a reservation week in advance. //FOOD//Quality of nigiri here is fantastic. They do a great job of doing nigiri in a way where the seasoning and fish cut and rice portion is just perfect! All the fish just melts in your mouth! They focus on the quality of the fish and it's not one of those places that overloads you with unnecessary fancy ingredients every single dish because the way the chef prepares it is just fantastic on its own! The appetizers and non nigiri are delicious as well - from the sashimi, to broiled fish to their dessert! They specialize in home comfort Japanese cooking as well and I love being able to enjoy that in their omakase. Their desserts are phenomenal! Basque cheesecake was delicious!//SERVICE//Service was great. We went on a Friday so it was definitely busy but I still felt very attended to from Satoshi our sushi chef to the waiters! All are so friendly//OVERALL//Highly recommend for a casual yet hole in the wall omakase! Can't be beat!

When the long wait times at Hanuman ended up being an absolute blessing!! I'm so glad I was able to discover Kappo Sui, which is just around the corner. I had this restaurant bookmarked for a while, but never happened to be in the area. What a hole-in-the-wall GEM! This place reminds me of the izakayas in Torrance/Gardena and even Japan. Some of the prices were on the higher end, but the food was so yummy! What we ordered:- Crab croquette ($17 for 2): You might be wondering, each croquette is around $8, is it even worth it? HELL YES. This is one of the best croquettes I've had. Light breading, fried golden brown, STUFFED with tender real crab meat. What a delicious appetizer that made me want to come back.- Simmered eel and egg ($15): The eel is sooooo tender. It pairs really well with the soft egg and sauce. Sprinkle a little of the pepper to spice it up. What a well balanced and unique dish.- Tuna bowl ($28): Dinner special item that came with miso soup. Really fresh and delicious tuna that melts in your mouth.- Fire-grilled duck ($18): This one was just ok. The duck itself is pretty tender but it wasn't that warm and the end pieces were a little tough. Probably wouldn't order again, but decent.

Kappo sui is a small Japanese restaurant tucked away in an unassuming strip mall, but it's packed with delicious food and amazing service. It's an authentic Japanese restaurant (you feel like your parents are cooking for you!) Everything I had was incredibly fish, from the sushi to the eel box, and you can tell that they use good ingredients. Don't skip the dessert, their cheesecake and panna cotta was insane! Definitely look forward to coming back.

Second time at Kappo Sui and we love it here! We were warmly greeted by everyone at the restaurant. Server was attentive and continuously refilled our water. We started off with scallop and black cod nigiri. And wow! The quality was amazing! Large piece of scallop and black cod on top of perfectly seasoned rice. I got the eel box while my boyfriend got the duck soba noodle. The eel was soooo good and the rice was nice and fluffy. It was so much food that I had to go part of it home. My boyfriend's soba was super flavorful. The owner gave us complimentary matcha panna cotta and yuzu sorbet for free. They are made in house by the owner. Matcha panna cotta has the perfect sweetness and yuzu sorbet was a good balance of sweet and tart.
