House of Joy lives up to its name as a welcoming and satisfying dining experience. I stopped by for dinner and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food, the attentive service, and the overall atmosphere.I ordered the roast duck, shrimp dumplings, and their house special fried rice. The roast duck was beautifully prepared, with crispy skin and tender, flavorful meat. The shrimp dumplings had a delicate, fresh filling, and the dumpling skins were the perfect thickness. The fried rice was packed with flavor and not overly greasy, with just the right amount of seasoning and fresh vegetables mixed in. Everything arrived hot and well-presented.The service here was excellent. Our server was friendly and attentive without hovering too much, and they checked in periodically to make sure we had everything we needed. Even with a busy dining room, the staff stayed efficient and professional. The ambience is casual yet refined, with a clean, comfortable dining space that works well for both family gatherings and smaller meals. The restaurant was lively without being too noisy, and the overall environment felt warm and welcoming.House of Joy is a great option if you're looking for high-quality Chinese food with dependable service and a nice atmosphere. I left feeling full and happy, and I'm already looking forward to returning to try more of their menu.

This rating is solely based on the service. We were seated promptly but the waitress didn't come to take our order until 10 minutes passed. Other patrons who sat down after us had their order taken first. We had a problem with the spice level of three of our four Jampong noodle orders. We ordered the three non-spicy but the waitress said that I ordered it less spicy. The waitress was ARGUING with me that I ordered it spicy, which I told her that I would not since my kids don't like spice. I told her I ordered the broth white. The waitress wailed her arms then ran over to the main lady (owner) to tell her that we are in the wrong. I explained to the owner that I ordered the three noodle orders as non-spicy. The owner reluctantly took the three spicy noodles and made new non-spicy ones. The waitress never came back to our table after taking back the noodles. We had to get up from our table to get more water and togo containers. We paid our bill with cash and left a $1 tip. The owner ran after us as we were going out the door. She asked if there is a problem. I asked why? She said there isn't enough money. I told her I paid the bill but since we didn't get proper service, we didn't feel they deserved a proper tip. The owner had the nerve to tell me that although the waitress never came back to our table, she said she was checking up on us from afar. I told her we won't be coming back to her establishment. I can only imagine the type of scrutiny the owner puts on her employees if she has the nerve to question her patrons about leaving a bigger tip.

Best jjajangmyeon I have had in 20 years, possibly ever. Also awesome that they will make a vegetarian one, many Korean Chinese restaurants that specialize in jjajangmyeon simply refuse to make a vegetarian version, probably because they think it won't taste good. Well I can't tell you how much worse it tastes w/o meat, but I CAN tell you as a vegetarian, it tastes AWESOME with just the onion and squash... it's all about the sauce! We also ordered meatless mapa (the Korean version of ma-po) tofu and the green bean. The green beans were also very good, nice and non-mushy. My wife wasn't a fan of the mapa tofu, but I'll enjoy the heck out of any version of mapo tofu (even though I REALLY dig a good Sichuan mapo tofu w/ the numbing peppercorn!).

Wasn't planning on looking to eat in this area, but we came from out of town for other reasons.I actually use to live across the street from this plaza but never frequented it at all, more so the plaza adjacent to where I lived by the H-Mart.So I'm well aware of this area of Buena Park.So not sure how long this place has been here , but at this early in the morning not much was open for another hour but fortunate House of Joy was. Went in there sat right away, a good menu with plenty of choices. Waitress was nice , even though there was a big language barrier but it's fine we were able to communicate enough to get good service .Ordered almost immediately and since at that moment we were the only customers there, we got our food pretty fast. The portions are of course for sharing so got myself a veggie choice of Bok Choy and Mushrooms and mom got combo chow mein. Both paired up well and it was enough food to be filling and have leftovers to take home.Which still hit the spot later when I ate the rest myself. The restaurant is very nice inside and another large family came in while we were there but got a big table to themselves. I'm sure it probably gets pretty busy during busier hours and the aesthetic is very nice and comforting. Our experience was great and the food was great and definitely recommend if you are in the area. A good place to bring groups so that you can try and share more items that they have to offer on the menu.

Food was okay. The Shanghai chicken was not as good at the Shanghai chicken in the Los Angeles location. I'm not even sure the restaurants with same name are related but menus sure look similar. Would not return to this one.

Came here for lunch and everything was an overall mediocre experienceWe were a party of 6 and ordered the jjajangmyun, jjampong, tangsuyuk, kkambong shrimp and mapo tofu. I ate the jjajangmyun and the noodles were already bloated by the time it got there and the flavor was just standard. Not awful and not amazing. The tangsuyuk was not my favorite. It was literally served over a pool of grease. The batter was soaked in oil and the sauce was actually pretty delicious. The shrimp was not deveined and the tofu was not mapo tofu. It was very bland and not spicy. It tasted like watered down soondubu. Service was fine, but maybe a little slow. The restaurant did not have a properly working AC. It's stuffy inside especially for me since I ate there in mid july. I will not be coming back here.

Kiddos loved it, the tang-su-yuk deep fried pork with sweet and sour sauce was a huge hit, big enough for 4 adults and was bigger than anything ever shown to us in koreatown (see hand next to plate to see relative quantity) Seafood quantity a little lacking in the spicy seafood jampong noodles but my kid loved the flavor of the soup. All in all would say most Americans and kids would like this place, as the korean take on Chinese food is a bit sweeter and more tangy than traditional Chinese in the first place

Ever since original chefs and staffs been leaving the restaurant, definitely the place lost its taste. Don't waste your money on this one. Rather get Panda Express. Just a thought

The service was terrible. The waitress and the owner were very unprofessional. We were seated in the back when it wasn't busy and they forgot to take our order. When we did order, the waitress got our order wrong. We ordered 1 spicy jjampong and 3 white (non spicy) jjampong. She then started to argue with us and only gave us our correct order when the owner stepped in. The owner told us that the waitress didn't understand what we meant by white (non spicy) jjampong. My mother had ordered and spoke in Korean so there wouldn't be any confusion. After our food was dropped off, no one came to our table to ask if we needed anything. We had no water and we had to go to the front to get it. We also had to get our own to-go boxes because they wouldn't come to the back. They tended to all the other tables except for us. When we paid, we didn't leave a tip because no one helped us and the owner ran up to us to ask why we didn't leave one. Although the food is decent, I wouldn't come back because of the hassle it took to get our food.

The food is great! They put in a lot of high quality protein in their dishes. The noodles are well prepared. The wait staff are very distracted and short. However, the busboys are very kind and helpful.
