If you're looking for five star sushi, this is the place! Incredibly fresh, great service and beautiful environment. One of our faves in the area!

The food here was honestly terrible - this isn't Japanese food. It's possible it's a one-off but I don't think so - the rolls were sloppily crafted, the "sushi rice" was hard, cold, and not vinegared properly, the grains were sticky and broken, meaning they didn't know how to prepare the rice properly or they didn't pay attention to the timing or water:rice ratio. The garnished radish had already yellowed yet they served it to me; the seaweed salad was overly sweet and they served it over a mound of slivered radish to pad the dish. Fish was about B+ to A- quality. Some of the ikura eggs (salmon roe) were wrinkled and deflated already, with a puddle of ikura drainage over the inedible rice. The cucumber roll says it all: this is sushi made by people who don't know anything about Japanese cuisine - kappa maki (cucumber roll) should be about 1.5cm across, perfectly cut; these were 2 inches across with the inedible rice sloppily spilling from every surface. The service was quite warm, they looked concerned that I didn't like the rice. I told them my concerns and they said they would take it into consideration. I paid $55.28 for a most unsatisfactory meal. It may be that Newport Beach doesn't have many authentic sushi restaurants, so this Americanized fare is rated so highly. I hope not, but I suspect this to be the case.

This used to be my all time favorite sushi place in the OC. Unfortunately the last two times we have been there the place is super loud, the service is slow and there is a weird Smokey smell to the place. The sushi is still good. So if you have kids and don't mind loud places and a long wait to get food, then it's still a good place.

Last minute decision to grab dinner after visiting a friend at Hoag. Sushi and ramen were great. Staff was pleasant. Too bad one large very loud table of drunk local kids were so fricken loud. Should be obvious when all the other diners constantly turn to stare at them. Dining experience would have been more enjoyable. Won't be back.

The food was good but the service was horrible. #1. we had a reservation and showed up on time, they made us wait 15 minutes to sit down and forgot about our reservation. #2. we sat down and had to ask for waters and chop sticks after 10 minutes of waiting. and were only given 4 for a party of 8. #3. hair in food. #4. it was our friends birthday and they gave us a scoop of ice cream instead of a full cake with ice cream like another table got. with no spoon to eat it. #5. each of us asked about 4 times for sauce. #6. we asked for a to go box and they didn't give it to us. making us have to go to the sushi bar to ask. #7. they didn't split our check like we asked and charged us 10 dollars tax. they also did not mention the 25$ gratuity that was automatically charged. There was nothing professional about our service. Don't go here.

Horrible food, bad service and they got my sons order wrong!!! Also charged us extra for wasabi and ginger!!!! The salmon skin roll was old and fell apart, cut way to thin!!!! Skanky place!!!! Do not waste your money there!!! Really terrible place!!!!!!!

Poor service. Terrible sushi. Wrong order. Charged anyway. Waitress with attitude unwilling to ensure customer satisfaction. Very expensive. Charged for extra wasabi and ginger. Sushi with soggy nori cut too thin and fell apart. Salmon skin was old and fishy. Do yourself a favor and do not waste your money here.
