Botan Sushi

I tried the Bento Tonkatsu box during lunch, and overall, it was a satisfying experience. The pork Tonkatsu was crispy with a nice balance of sweet and salty flavors. It came with a generous portion of cabbage, and a little bit of pickled greens (not sure what they are called), plenty of rice, and four California sushi rolls. It was filling! My only wish was for less cabbage and more variety in the sides. I'd give it a 7 out of 10 for the food.The restaurant itself was really pretty, and they offer a $1 drink with the Bento box, along with free refills. The atmosphere was a solid 9 out of 10, and service was exceptional. Worth a try if you're in the area!

Had a meal near UCI and randomly found a Japanese restaurant. The prices were very reasonable, and the food was great! Tried three types of sushi, and they were all delicious!Highly recommend the Volcano Baked Roll! Generously topped, with a warm, crispy layer on top--amazing texture and flavor!Also loved the cucumber roll without rice--it was super refreshing and light, perfect for a clean palate.They also offer bento boxes, which are perfect for solo diners. Options include fried chicken, pork cutlet, salmon, or beef, paired with rice, California roll, and vegetables. A balanced and satisfying choice for a solo meal.

My go to sushi restaurant in the area. Botan Sushi replaced KY Sushi, but they have been able to maintain the quality of the dishes that I liked. I will have to give some of the new dishes they added to the menu a try, though!I do recommend that they list the ingredients for their rolls on their website. I typically ordered from KY Sushi, now Botan, online and it's a bit hard to decide what to order based on pictures alone. The website may still be in the works, but an update in the future with the ingredients included in the descriptions would be appreciated!

This sushi spot could have been so good if they weren't so understaffed. I was tempted to leave 3 stars, but the food was good and the waitress was very kind. We came in on a Tuesday night and the waitress let us know we could sit anywhere we would like, but there were no available tables. There were 3 open tables, but they had not been cleaned and still had all the dishes from previous customers on them. We waited for her to clear the table and sat down. Besides the chef working with the fish, there seemed to just be 2 waitresses doing everything else including bussing tables, taking orders, delivering food, delivering checks, and running to the back kitchen for the warm foods. This left us waiting at our table for over 10 mins to order, and once we were done eating, we waited close to another 15 mins to receive our check. The table next to us even asked if we were supposed to go to the register to pay or keep waiting. Another thing is that the waitresses use a portable POS machine to take your payment right at your table, but this meant a lot of time was spent with the waitress stuck at a different table for a while, completing the entire checkout process while the restaurant was full of people who needed service. Besides that, our waitress was very kind and doing her best and the food was pretty good. The decor was really one of the best parts of this restaurant as well. Had they been staffed appropriately, our experience here would have been 5/5 stars.

Sushi and sashimi are very fresh. Fried chicken is the best I've had for a while. Bento box set is a great deal!

1. Ambiance and EnvironmentThe place was really aesthetic and clean still, with the equipment still in good condition compared to when it first opened.2. Food and DrinksPretty solid food still, even though I could tell the quality somewhat changed from the first time that I was here. It was filling, but I wouldn't say it's excellent now.3. ServiceReally kind workers, and it's one of the great aspects at this location. The workers seem like they're college-aged, which may be a reason as to why they're very sympathetic with you when my friend and I were figuring out how to split our orders to not break our college pockets. 4. PricingAverage-priced offerings. Would be a decent choice if you'd like to share a roll between two people if want to reduce the price from ~$15 per person to ~$7 per person. 5. BathroomReally clean! No notes. 6. ParkingParking can get quite hectic since it's at Campus Plaza and there are a lot of tight turns within the plaza. If you're a student, it would be better to just walk here or even take the Anteater Express.7. Study-Friendly FeaturesGiven the location's proximity to the main UCI campus, it has the potential of being a good study space. However, I wouldn't recommend it given the lack of outlets and the fact that it's catered more towards dine-in eating. Would be good for group project lunch meetings that are sub-30 minutes, however.

Food was overall ok tasting, pretty small portions though, especially for the price. If a roll is $16 pre-tax/tip, I'm expecting to be full off of it, not needing more food afterwards. Service was pretty bad, but not holding it against them cause they seemed short staffed.

Pan fried salmon bento box only $15.95 and $1 milk tea is totally worth it! Highly recommend this place to UCI students
