Anjappar Express - Lake Forest

I wanted something to eat but didn't know what and just decided on a whim to try this place out. They have decent sized indoor seating but the ambiance is not super friendly and not that welcoming. It was frustrating to speak with the cashier because he muttered a lot. I ended up with a spicy butter chicken. Butter chicken is supposed to be mild. I also ordered goat curry. I knew that was going to be spicy because it's mentioned on the menu. I asked if Naan is included or if I can add it on. He said it's there. Still very spicy. I don't get that part. The chicken was fresh made though. I don't know when I've had such soft and tender chicken in an Indian curry. I was very surprised at the texture and liked it. I may come back and try something else but right now my digestive and acid heartburn is waiting to come out. I can feel it..

Wanted to really like the place but can't say the lunch curry special was a good one. I got the chicken vindaloo and goat curry. Ordering was a bit strange in that you look to order and sample if you'd like and then site down and it gets brought out. Not sure why you don't just order right there at the table and then grab your food. Seems a bit odd to sample order and pay the. Sit down. The curry itself was good. Nice spiciness and good flavor. Unfortunately they were exceptionally stingy on the protein. I got what seemed like a chicken back bone with minimal meat. Overall for $17 with tax I expected more protein. Same problem with the goat. Again the curry tasted good but there was a lot of bone and not a lot of meat. Again this is something that could've been noticed if I watched them make it versus having them bring it on out. The individual I went also experienced a similar complaint as me so it just wasn't my order. A lot of bones and not a lot of meat. I'll give them another shot in a month or so to see if they've improved their quality a bit.

I've been here three times now. The only time the food was good was the first time right after it opened. After that they have had several chef changes and food is not great at all compared to all the other Anjappar branches I've eaten at. Serving in paper plates but prices are the same as the other branches of Anjappar. Dosas were very thick and the chicken 65 lacked any flavor. Definitely never order chaat here they dont know how to make chaat. They just use ready made stuff and the pani puri tasted stale. They tried to replace the pani puri with papdi chaat but that was also not how it's supposed to be made. Unless they change something and really deliver quality South Indian food not going back to this branch again.

This place is a rip off. I paid 20$ for goat masala, and this is what I got, like wtf? Half of it is bones there's no meat at all and the taste was not good. There are definitely better Indian places that give bigger portions with way better quality food. Will not ever come here again!

Been here several times now, and have to say I really enjoy the food. They have a wide variety of Indian food dishes, from curries to dosa's (southern Indian item), and have really good rice combo specials, with choice of curry rice, Gobi and plain naan, for a LOT less than most Indian places and with a good portion size. It's a simple casual place, but the value it excellent, and the food flavorful, piping hot, and oh so yummy! Service is helpful and quick, since you order at the counter. Great place for quick, tasty Indian food.

I'm so glad Anjappar opened in Lake Forest. We were missing a South Indian spot in this area. The location is super convenient since it's pretty central still for Lake Forest. It's the same strip mall where IHOP and DonerG are located. This is an express location, which basically means it doesn't have the full menu available at the regular Anjappar Chettinad. Still, it has most of the items I wanted. I was hoping for appam, idi appam etc. but they are not available here - yet. The person at the counter said appams may be added later. Right now, they are still in their soft launch. I ordered the mysore masala dosa which was really good. The sambar, chutney etc. were spot on. The husband got a malabar porotta and chicken masala curry. The porotta was fresh and the chicken was not overly spicy. The people behind the counter were friendly. There are a few kinks they need to iron out but I'm not taking any stars off given they have not officially opened yet. I'm super glad to have good dosas nearby. I'll be a frequent customer !

Goat Biriyani good taste but made with "Kanki' broken rice not long grain basmati for a standard Indian Biriyani! Not a fair serving of meat one small piece and 3 large bone pieces with no meat but just fat!Mistake going to Express will go back to Tustin Anjappar.

Good vegetarian options. Tasty naan. The gobi and the butter paneer were delicious. Found the place by accident when I was going to Panera and have been back several times since.

Ordered from Uber eats. The food (except for the garlic kebabs) were BLAND.... Has very minimal flavor and I had to add spices in it. Didn't know express means less on the spice. Absolutely do not recommend
