I want to start off by saying, and you could quote me on this, this place is fcuken amazing!!! We've had Japanese and Peruvian fusion food before at our go-to restaurant near our home, but it broke our hearts when we found out that it was closed because of the pandemic. Fast forward to Feb. 2025, I was scrolling social media and came upon Akashiro. Bookmarked it and sent it through to my boyfriend. He made the reservations, and here we are. We went with the Omakase Akashiro Full Experience 16 course dinner. It was pricey ($165 per person), but so freaken worth it! To be quite honest with you, my boyfriend had to convince me to do the 16 course meal because being the frugal person I am, I couldn't imagine spending $165 per person. I'm gonna tell you now, just DO IT, if you are able to and if you're able to sit at the bar, do that too! We love sitting at the bar when we go to sushi restaurants. We love interacting with the itamae! Arigato gozaimasu, Ricardo-san! The restaurant itself isn't too big, and not too small. It's the perfect size for a cozy, and intimate setting. The service was great! Each time a new course came out, we were explained what it was, and where it came from. Overall, we enjoyed our experience very much! We're already talking about when we're going back. This time, we're gonna order off the menu. Make your reservations and spoil yourself! Enjoy!

I had high hopes for this place after seeing great reviews, especially since I had booked a spot a month in advance for a special occasion--Valentine's Day. The experience started off well enough: I arrived on time and was quickly seated in the back area. However, it took a few minutes for our server to greet us. When she finally did, we ordered a bottle of white wine and some water. The wine arrived a few minutes later in an ice bucket with two chilled glasses, but unfortunately, it wasn't properly chilled. Despite being on ice, it was still warm, which was a letdown. After some time, our server arrived, she informed us the Omakase was running slow that evening, which we were fine with. The Omakase experience is a 16-course meal. While it's a bit pricey at $165, I didn't mind that, and I think the experience would've been better at the actual bar, though no seats were available.First Course: Ceviche We started with the Peruvian Ceviche, which is also available on the regular menu. It was tasty and reminded me of crudos I've had before. Our water finally arrived just as the dishes were cleared.Item count: 1Second Course: AppetizersWe were served a Parmesan Scallop (also available on the menu) and a shrimp dish that I believe was unique to the Omakase. The scallop was delicious and different, while the shrimp was flavorful but a bit chewy. At this point, I realized that the 16 courses meant 16 individual pieces of food, not necessarily 16 separate courses.Item count: 3Third Course: TiraditosAnother shrimp dish came out here, which I found odd. An Omakase is supposed to take you on a journey, so back-to-back shrimp felt out of place. The dish, called Pulpo Shrimp, also confused me--"pulpo" typically refers to octopus, not shrimp. While the flavors were good, the shrimp was again quite chewy.Item count: 4Fourth Course: Traditional NigiriWe enjoyed three types of bluefin tuna--regular, toro, and otoro (all available on the menu). These were all very good, though smaller than most Nigiri I've had. The server recommended not dipping them in soy sauce, which wasn't an issue as there was none on our table, nor was there any wasabi or ginger.Item count: 7Fifth Course: Nikkei Nigiri SelectionIn an odd turn, this course came out of order, much later--like, after the check was already dropped. So, we'll revisit this one in a bit.Item count: 7Sixth Course: HandrollA Blue Claw Crab handroll was served, and with it came soy sauce (finally). It wasn't especially exciting, but I did enjoy it, both with and without soy.Item count: 8Seventh Course: SoupThis was a fish broth with corn and minced shallots. It was flavorful, but not particularly impressive.Item count: 9Eighth Course: DessertThis is where things got a bit strange. I had been looking forward to more sushi, as we had been dining for about two hours, and I was still hungry when the dessert course arrived. It was confusing, but we ate the ice cream and churro. While decent, I ended up going to Somi Somi for Ice cream afterward.Item count: 10Just as we finished dessert, the check was dropped. I was puzzled, as the meal felt incomplete. I wondered if they were offering a shortened Omakase for Valentine's Day, but the bill was charged at the full $165 price. When another server came to grab our check, I asked for clarification about the Omakase, as it seemed we were missing something--not just 16 courses, but not even 16 pieces of sushi. She quickly realized the mistake and went to correct it.A few minutes later, another server arrived with an item I didn't recognize--served in a little tostada cup on a bed of beans. We were told not to eat the beans, but the item itself was tasty. Not sure where it fit into the Omakase, but it seemed like a "sorry, we messed up" offering.Item count: 11Afterward, our original server passed by, looking confused that we had the check while still getting food. The server who went to fix the issue returned with a single salmon hand roll and apologized for the mix-up. It was odd that they only brought one for two people, but at least the apology was appreciated.Next, the missing Fifth Course--the Nikkei Nigiri Selection--arrived. This time, we received four pieces of Nigiri. But we were still short if you're counting, even if we include the salmon hand roll. The four pieces we received were tasty: Scallop Truffle (available on the menu), Salmon Parmesan (also on the menu), Unagi (good, not on the menu), and one I didn't catch the name of, but it was probably the best of the bunch.Item count: 15 (Grand total: 15)Was it a terrible experience? No. Could it have been better? Absolutely. Warm wine, missing courses, and food delivered out of order definitely dampened the evening. In the end, I'd recommend skipping the Omakase for better value. I think you'd get more food and spend less by ordering directly off the menu.Other reviews are similar for 2/14

Akashiro is AMAZING. It's giving Michelin star restaurant. I came here for a Valentine's day date and was truly blown away. I was surprised by the flavorful combinations of Peruvian and Japanese flavors. My favorite item was the Peruvian ceviche. This one is a must try. I don't even know what it was but it was bomb. We also ordered a couple different specialty rolls which were making my eyes roll back to my head. You are basically having a mouthgasm the whole time you're here. The servers are super polite. They explained all the dishes to you but honestly, I don't know what they're saying. Lol. Just eat it and enjoy. Parking was super easy there's a public parking structure right next door. The restaurant and bathroom were clean. Make sure you have a reservation! Especially for busy times like weekends. Check in process was seamless. We literally cannot wait to be back.

HARD PASS. The experience was worth noting to others which is why I am sharing with the community so quickly after the meal my husband and I just had for Valentine's Day. TL;DR version is that your money is better spent elsewhere as this was a very long experience (Michelin-dining timeline where courses are spread out) but not nearly as tasty as expected (definitely not close to Michelin-starred quality as someone had praised inaccurately in a review)--We had prior plans that fell through and were looking to enjoy a dining experience out for Valentine's Day. Hardly having time to enjoy a meal out these days, we were fortunate to have a night off to enjoy and it happened to fall on Valentine's Day-- maybe a blessing and/or a curse? Our original plans fell through so we were excited that Akashiro had an opening for us. While we usually are more traditional omakase fans, their menu being Peruvian fusion seemed interesting enough to try. We arrived at 5:15 PM and started off well. Our server confirmed the "full experience omakase" would run 60-90 mins for the "16 courses". The "16 courses" are actually 16 items that you receive broken into 8 courses which is a tad misleading but they explained that upfront to us when I asked so we were aware. CEBICHE - started off interesting. Was a decent dish with a sliver of uni on sea bass in a lime sauce and corn nutsAPPETIZER - parmesan scallop and shrimp dish. The scallop was interesting. The shrimp was over cooked and underwhelming. TIRADITOS - pulpo shrimp dish was over cooked and subparSELECTION OF TRADITIONAL NIGIRI - bluefin tuna, toro, otoro were tasty We asked for hot sake after this course. At this point we were about 75 minutes I to dinner. This is when things starting headed down hill..SELECTION OF NIKKEI NIGIRI - they forgot this dish and gave us the hand roll. I was surprised and asked our server how many courses were left and he said just soup and dessert. See review on this dish later after some confusion arose. HAND ROLL - a lump of blue crab that was supposed to have been seasoned and dressed with yuzu and ponzu but did not have any ounce of it. I asked for soy sauce and realized we were never offered wasabi and/or ginger either.. maybe this was part of the dining experience to not add anything?I asked our original waiter about our nikkei course since our neighbors who entered around the same time we did ordered the same experience. He went to check and apologized that they missed this. I also asked about the hot sake which was not received by this point which is now 30 mins since we asked. Our neighbors to the other side sat down and were offered soy sauce, ginger, wasabi right away. We are now 90+ minutes into dinner. Nikkei course FINALLY comes out but our dishes from previous courses weren't bussed so the waiter had to drop the nikkei, bus the dishes, then bring back the nikkei . I ask for more water which we had waited on for more than 5 minutes. I asked for our soup, dessert, and check to wrap up as we had to get home to our little kiddo. We are now 120 minutes into the dining experience. SOUP - subpar. Are in a rush because I was starving and had to get outta there. DESSERT - tasty churro, weird salted caramel ice creamRushed to the restroom before our long drive home and the soap dispenser did not work. Hope the staff has a different restroom because this screams unsanitary to me if they didn't have a functioning soap dispenser..All in all, left very upset about the service and very underwhelmed by the food. At $165pp, it does not warrant the price point at all in my opinion. Better find a better spot to spend your money at because this place was not worth it at all.

Very small almost intimate sushi fusion place. Normally I hear sushi fusion and I want to run the other way, but.Akashiro breaks that mold! The food was excellent their use of Peruvian spice and chili oil really makes everything pop. They have a really nice selection on the menu from appetizers to main to hand rolls to desserts the drink menu compliments of food really well. The restaurant and kitchen, which you can see from any table in the place, is spotlessly clean as was every member staff. The wait staff and the sushi chefs were all fantastic. Really attentive and detail oriented. Bathrooms were spotless. So there are four different sushi places within a quarter mile radius all at the intersection of Chapman and Harbor, but this is the best sushi that I have had in Fullerton. Hands down. You're gonna need a reservation, so plan ahead. Parking is easy and if for some reason you want an after/before dinner coffee or ice cream there's a great place right around the corner.Really good for a date night, or four a small group of friends. Not great for large groups, but that doesn't take away from the experience of this place at all. Wholeheartedly recommend.

Tasty and fresh! We enjoyed our dinner at Akashiro. The service was wonderful and attentive. The kids loved their fried fish n' avocado bowl, fish broth soup, and special eel/avocado roll. We practically ordered the entire menu for the adults and everything was wonderful! Though, some of the dishes were a bit overly saucy so it took away from the natural flavor/texture of the fish. Love the location in downtown Fullerton :)
