"Unfortunately my last review got removed (I also think i may have been logged into the wrong account). The rice cakes are sooooo good!Try the classic red and the pink "Rose" rice cakes. They add some kind of cream (maybe coconut?) that makes it taste creamy and unique. I get the mild spicy and it is spicy so try that level first before getting it any spicier. Be prepared! It's sooo delicious though. It's connected to Seoul Korean Tofu House but I think they may have their own entrance and seating soon. It looked like they were preparing to open last time I was there. Enjoy!"
"Mini-me 1.0 approved. We shared a Duo Set.Gal working the front counter was friendly and nice. Restaurant pager went beep beep beep when the food was ready.Spicy soup was spicy and fried snacks managed to keep some crispness after the car ride home."

Visit Restaurant Page"Every time we visit our daughter and daughter in law, they take us to a new-to-us K-bbq spot. This has been my favorite! We arrived for an early dinner around 5pm. They have a Yelp check in tablet when you enter. They also have a Yelp waitlist - I definitely recommend using that! We only waited around five minutes for our table. The big booth was plenty roomy for the five of us. Someone came over right away to bring us water, loved that. Our waiter came by shortly after to take initial orders which we always leave up to our daughter. The banchan here was great; I think I ordered half the items on the list. The cheese corn was really good as well as the spicy tofu stew and egg custard. I wish it wasn't so hot, I would have ate more. The cucumber salad and japchae were good not great. They also offered beer by the glass or pitche with three IPA offerings - say less! Service was excellent. We were a little disappointed that the robot didn't bring any of our food. But so grateful Our waiter came over often and was good about changing out our grill and bringing more water and napkins.I am looking forward to coming here again, definitely recommend."
"Love that this restaurant is now in Del Mar!Farewell to terrible Convoy parking. Came here twice already. Took my family and then we took our visiting priest here with some friends. They LOVED the chicken. We're tried almost every flavor. The honey garlic one was a favorite. Go alone. Go with friends. Share chicken and salad and you'll all be quite happy."
"I was craving KBBQ & Handoo seemed pretty good so we decided to head on over. Handoo is AYCE, with two AYCE options: Menu A & Menu B. Menu A is $29.99/person and allows you to order any of the meats #1-17 & Menu B is $35.99/person, allowing you to order any of the meats the offer #1-28. Side dishes are also unlimited. We decided to go with Menu A and ordered a couple meats to start. Our favorite was the #17 marinated beef ribs. Our least favorite was the beef brisket, which was recommended by our server; it is basically just hotpot meat & is pretty difficult to cook because it just sticks to the grill. Very quick, speedy service. Once you place your order of meats, they are brought to you almost immediately. I really enjoyed the banchan, especially the japchae! I probably asked for more japchae like 6-7 times because it was so addicting. The tofu stew is also yummy here. I got the steamed egg & added the egg to the tofu stew & it was chef's kiss!"
"The local Korean Fried Chicken (KFC) competition is heating up with another new entry into the SD market. BHC Chicken has opened its second US store with this location at The Mercato Food Hall in Sorrento Valley. They are supposedly South Korea's most popular KFC chain. The suite had capacity for about 50 customers. The menu wasn't all fried chicken as several traditional Korean dishes were available (e.g. spicy rice cakes). You could place an order using the self service kiosk or with a cashier. I found the options to be confusing, namely the fact that some of the sauces were unavailable to be paired up with certain chicken cuts. I don't if this was a supply issue or a speed bump in the operation because they had been in business for less than a week during my visit. The fried chicken is made to order so plan for additional waiting time while the food is being prepared. Two of the signature flavors were the Gold King (Korean soy sauce, honey, and garlic) and Bburinkle (Korean cheese seasoning). I chose the Bburing Cheese Balls as an appetizer which had the latter sprinkled on top of the deep fried product filled with mozzarella cheese. The fritters were chewier than I had anticipated as the pastry dough was glutinous rice (i.e. mochi). The cashier convinced me to order the thighs which I requested with a Classic Fried flavor. Eight pieces were served with sweet chili sauce per my choice. More of this dip was needed to match the portion size of the order. The batter was light and very crunchy. It was probably one of the better executed versions I have tasted in the SD area. Better Happier Choice... not so sure about this pretentious, abbreviated motto, but I felt my dining experience was at a four star level."
"It was a hungry Saturday evening. My boyfriend, his daughter, and I were trying to figure out what to eat that would suit all of our tastes. I had previously introduced Korean Fried Chicken to them (this location was previously Padadak). Both boyfriend and daughter were craving Korean Fried Chicken, so we landed at Crispy Chicken n' Tomato on Clairemont Mesa Blvd (San Diego); recently opened in September 2023. According to their website, Crispy Chicken n' Tomato is "the No. 1 Korean Fried Chicken" in Japan. We ordered the following:- 24 piece chicken wings - tried their Honey Soy and their Classic Mild flavors. My favorite was the Honey Soy. Boyfriend's favorite was the Classic Mild. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=cJ_NlC78dQ5XM3bAqs7HjA&userid=NvUeb5G_mSSxgKhEE_Hueg- Fried Gyoza - perfectly fried. NOM NOM NOM! https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=ctDszYvlz9EXoWCAHcnjzw&userid=NvUeb5G_mSSxgKhEE_Hueg- Fries - I'm usually not a fan of fries but this was perfectly fried. Boyfriend's daughter had mentioned the crispness. Everything was fresh, perfectly fried, and delicious!! ENJOY!!"
"The restaurant is clean and bright. Parking can be a challenge at times. This Korean fried chicken style restaurant has a variety of dishes. We loved their lunch specials with wings. Their fried rice and bimbimbap rich dish is delicious with bulgogi. Their wings are perfectly crispy and flavorful. The service was friendly and helpful."
"Parking: plenty of parking in the back. The lot only has one way in and one way out, so if you're going west from the freeway you're fine, but going east on Clairemont is a pain, as you have to cross the freeway then make a u-turn...Customer service: They were super attentive in the beginning, then towards the end we had to press the button a few times to flag someone down. But that's pretty normal as we wind down on orders. They did forget our waters a few times.Food: Delicious! Would recommend the beef bulgogi, thinly sliced pork, steamed egg, and Mac salad. The kimchi fried rice was plain and lacked flavor (which was surprising for a KBBQ restaurant)."
"This place is a hidden gem & I love it! Located inside H Mart, you get great rapokki & other Korean street stall style dishes. I always get the tuna mayo rice with a side of fried pumpkin because it just tastes sooo good when combined. You get a little bit of everything! Bonus, I also make my own miso soup on the side that I got from H Mart to make it a full meal for lunchtimes during work! It just makes me so happy to have a little bit of everything, plus it's absolutely delish! You won't regret getting anything here. Side note, their spicy is VERY spicy... go for mild :)"
"Wow! Ordered the half and half x 2... comes with half order crispy original and a flavor choice! We tried the honey garlic and the other flavor is spicy soy! Option to make level spicy strong if you're into that! One order can honestly feed 2 to 3 ppl ... added Steamed rice on the side. Even the kids meal boneless strips with fries is good enough for 2 kids! Portions are big enough to share! The kimchi is spicy and delicious and the snow cheese fries is a must try! I think snow cheese fries are now my favorite! The sauces for chicken are on the side.. which makes sense to keep the chicken fr getting soggy! Waited 10 to 15 mins ... the dine in is clean. For beverages... option for soju and beer or fountain drinks! Peter is the owner and he is super friendly with a sense of humor! He even offered and insisted to bring the food out to my car! Wow such service! The family is happy and full!"
"The corner suite in the Zion Market food court where Gala Chicken is now located used to be the stall for Myung In Dumplings. I never bothered to wander into the grocery section of the market to visit the former spot of Gala Chicken so I think it was a wise decision for them to move out front where they are more visible and accessible to customers. Their presence in the food court is also positive because it adds diversity to the offerings. Having tried a couple of Korean fried chicken (KFC) competitors on Convoy St, I used those experiences as benchmarks to compare the products from here. I selected a regular order of the Soy Sweet wings which came as eight pieces. The crust wasn't as light and crispy as one of the other places, and the size of the wings were smaller than the other place. In my opinion, Gala Chicken ranks behind the local top KFC competition which was why I gave them a three star rating."

I thought this place was permanently closed for the longest time until I realized it just shared the same space as the soondoobu place "next door." The Tteokbokki tastes pretty good although heavy on the pepper flavor, and the spam mayo bowl is good too (just literally spam, mayo, and seaweed). I like that the tteokbokki here is actually spicy. They need to update the menu posted outside the restaurant because it has old prices. $16 for tteokbokki seems so expensive when considering this is basically no-frills street food. I'd have liked to try some of the fried food on the menu but it's prohibitively expensive. The portion and price point is why I'm docking stars. I give this place a 3.5/5 but rounded up because I want to support these local Korean businesses.

I had a craving for kimbap/gimbap and my husband was in the area so he bought me a couple packs to try. We usually just get it at the Hmart in Mira Mesa, so this was a first for me from this location. The bulgogi gimbap was excellent, the katsu gimbap not so much. Not because it got soggy on the hour plus drive home to me, but because the batter tasted like old oil was used. Lesson learned to steer clear from that one, but I would definitely love to try other things off their menu.

Cross Street has the best Korean fried chicken in San Diego, IMHO ... one of the best in the United States. We've eaten lunch here several times and enjoyed it every time. The chicken wings are done perfectly, double fried, and tossed in one of 9 sauces (or Plain). We enjoy the two hottest sauces -- Seoul Spicy and Thai Chili. One of our favorite dishes here is the Seoul Spicy Sandwich (5/5), which is battered and fried chicken thigh, Seoul Spicy sauce, cole slaw, and pickled radish on a brioche bun. Excellent! But Cross Street is more than Korean fried chicken. It has a full bar and good beer selection, a varied menu, and TVs for sports viewing. There's both indoor and patio seating. Service tends to be very good.

Being in town for the convention SDCC, i always try to pop into as many KBBQ as we can handle just because it's better out here normally than back home.We arrived here late night, it was popping, people coming in and out. It's in the strip plaza and looks to be a popular spot. We were seated promptly and the menu was easy to read. Pricing for AYCE spot was good in my opinion and we were attended to quickly. My lady liked the tofu soup with steamed egg in clay pot which she likes to mix. Got a couple of those. The cheese corn was also well balanced, we got japchae by the bowl because it was yummy and noodles cooked well. The proteins, we got a bunch of each but from the "A" menu our favorite was the marinated beef rib meat. The spicy pork's were good too, had more of a peppery note to it for some reason but overall enjoyable. The brisket comes out super thin like the hot pot beef, which sticks real fast to the heat top. The staff was pretty quick changing out or pan for fresh grilling. You get water pitcher on the table as well.I didn't get our order of the spicy butter but that's alright, we enjoyed our meal with full tummy's! Will be back when in town again! For AYCE and quality speed service and good tasting proteins, can't complain much.Good space, restrooms, and multiple staff checking on your table as a team. Thank you.

I really liked the chicken tenders here. They had a great crispy exterior with an all white meat tender inside. They are very well made. The ones I purchased were the Hot Fried Tenders for $8.99 for four larger pieces, which were plenty for one person.I had them with BBQ sauce for dipping. They offer a variety of dipping sauces, but you only get one per order. You have to pay for an extra sauce. The service was good at the counter. You order and pay, and then they bring your food to the table. Each order comes with house pickles radishes. Great tenders.

The restaurant is clean, bright and roomy. Service was fine. We ordered a boneless chicken lunch combo and bulgogi lunch combo. The boneless chicken was delicious with the mild sweet and spicy sauce. We liked it. There are sides like tomato and pickled radish available and is normally offered but it was not this time. The fried rice and Cole slaw were just ok compared to other Korean chicken places. We also ordered beef bulgogi here. It was not good. It was more of a Japanese sukiyaki. The meat seemed boiled and not bbq. The flavor was very bland. The bulgogi must be revised, reimagined or removed from the menu. If you come here, stick to only chicken or order at your own risk.

This will definitely be the only Bon chon I go to when I'm in the area. It's always clean. The wings are always on point.I came here a few times for lunch, this place has really good service and food. The workers are always polite and welcoming.I always get the lunch spicy combos wings with rice, they come out tender, crispy and spicy. So delicious!! Sometimes I get another order to save for later, and it'll still taste good and not dry out or get hard. The sauce is spot on here. This one is the best Bonchon so far, I really like coming to this location. Parking is easy too. Bonus, there's milk tea and desserts in the same area you can go to after.

"Excellent quick option given what's available, you can taste the freshness of the ingredients which is rare in a mall food court. Reminded me more of a cantina style spot in Hong Kong! Quick and friendly service l, didn't take long."
"Came here with two friends on a weekday evening and had a wonderful meal!! Parking is a bit tenuous because it's an incredibly narrow and busy lot, but there is definitely street parking a block or two down if you don't feel like risking your rear bumper. We came for an early dinner so were seated immediately, but by the time we left, a line had formed outside. The restaurant is clean and spacious.Jomaru specializes in pork neck stew, which is massive tender pork neck chunks stewed in a spicy, fragrant, flavorful stew. You can pick your size and any toppings. We got the large size and got the cheese fried rice for the end. The food came out quickly and the stove was turned on. Our server was very sweet and helped us control the temperature so that things didn't burn or stick to the bottom of the pot. The pot is massive and the meat and veggies are piled high. There are both potato chunks and potato dumplings, which have an addictive, chewy-bouncy texture. To eat the stew, you take chunks of chopstick-tender meat and dip them into the provided wasabi sauce. The sting of wasabi is so good with the incredibly rich meat, and prevents it from tasting too fatty. You can also have your meat alongside their delicious radish or cabbage kimchi. For a palette cleanser, have a stir-fried fish cake, or a piece of sweet soy-braised potato. I think the Large size was $55 and more than enough for me and two others to share. We ate what felt like an unbelievable amount of meat. Every time I thought we were done, we'd unearth another piece!Once you have finished eating the contents of the stew, that is when the server will make the fried rice. We opted for the cheese version but to be honest I think it would have been even tastier without. They basically use the grease from the stew, add seaweed flakes, and allow it to sit on the stone pot for a few minutes for that perfect crispy bottom. Be sure to get in your arm workout and scrape every last grain of that flavor-soaked rice into your mouth! Overall I absolutely loved Jomaru. It's definitely going to be one of my go-tos for a fun meal with a group of 2-4 people. Honestly if you split the price of the larger size stews, the price per person is pretty reasonable for the quantity and quality of the food you're getting!"
"4 star overall, driven largely by their friendly and attentive service and the nice environment for a work lunch meeting. This place is in Pacific Highlands Ranch and oddly enough was not that busy during the lunch hour.We ordered right at the stand at the door and took our number to a table of our choice. Sadly, this location did not serve chicken strips even though they used the same menu as the convoy location which includes strips. I ordered Japchae instead. The food came out quickly and they packed it in Togo containers, even for dine in, as if anticipating that you may save a bit to bring home. The Japchae was a bit on the sweet side but the ratio of ingredients to rice noodle was good. The rice noodle was a bit soft and overcooked. Sure enough, I saved half to bring back. Our server was fantastic, he was friendly, efficient, and came by just the perfect amount of times to make sure our water cups were filled."
"Located inside Zion Market - good location and huge parking lot! Perfect place to shop and also grab food here. Dropped by here for a quick lunch to eat during the weekend. My review is solely for black bean noodle dish for around $7. I have been hunting for a place that has good black bean noodles as I grew up on that back in NY. This time...I was disappointed, like many of the other times at the other places that I have so far tried in San Diego. Presentation was nice, but there was barely an meat. Majority of the time I felt like I was eating a lot of grease along with onions. Portion was definitely huge. But tasted extremely watered down when I had it. So...goes back to my hunt for delicious black bean noodles.I also did not like the fact that if you wanted it to go it would cost a extra $1 and if you had leftovers it would be $0.50 a box. Must have been because I have grown up so used to getting take out boxes when we have something left over. Not very keen on coming again for the black bean noodle dish. Maybe something else.On the plus side, they do give water which is located right behind their counter to your right after you order."
"Got a small order Boneless Chicken-Original Golden Chicken(8 pieces). I really love how well they are fried. Super juicy and crunchy! All at the same time. The food here, delicious. Minus one star for the service. It's my first time here, so I looked over the menu while ordering just to make sure I got everything I wanted. She kept rushing me and asking is that all for you (I was clearly looking up at the menu and there was no line behind me). After taking my order she goes to the kitchen and takes some fries to eat. Comes back out and plays with her phone. Maybe thats a norm there. I like how this place is spacious. Lots of room for people to sit and enjoy their KFC and drinks! Highly recommend the food is delicious!!!"
"Not sure what is up with all of these bad reviews. I ordered two corndogs, one mozzarella cheese, and one sausage . It literally took five minutes to come out, after reading these reviews, I timed it, and the guy helping me at the counter was super nice."
"New owners have spent well over seven figures to update this space in the Kearny Plaza on Clairemont Mesa Blvd and create an upscale Korean BBQ restaurant featuring traditional cast-iron cauldron grilling. The cauldrons (sots) were each shaped like a short hut and imported from Korea. The concept was not all-you-can-eat but rather premium meats that were cooked for you by a staff member. The business is currently in a soft opening phase until the middle of August. I counted at least 30 tables which were only about 1/4 occupied when we arrived for dinner. One page of the menu listed the proteins which were beef, pork, and seafood. All of the beef was either prime, choice, or wagyu. The cheapest cuts were priced at $29 each. Three sampler plates were available with Pork, Sot, and Wagyu as the labels. We chose the Sot ($89) which consisted of Prime Short Rib, Prime Ribeye, Pork Belly, and Beef Belly. The other menu page featured the appetizers, sides, small entrees, and beverages. From these choices, we picked the Korean Assorted Pancakes and Fried Rice. As part of the soft opening, a Steamed Egg was provided as a complimentary item. The workers brought out the banchan rapidly as there were at least eight different types including two styles of kimchi with a fermented version that became sweet when grilled. Sesame oil, a red salt, and a green salt were provided for dipping the cooked meat. Although we didn't receive one, a basket of lettuce for making wraps was available. Our server did all of the preparation of the sot by greasing up the surface, adding a sprig of rosemary for scenting, and then cutting up the vegetables (mushrooms, onions) and meat before cooking them. The Beef Belly was a brisket and cooked first followed by the Prime Ribeye, Prime Short Rib, and Pork Belly. The sequence may have been from the leanest to the fattiest portions. The short rib was probably my favorite, however the quality was very good for each cut. Do note that oil does collect along the rim of the sot, and some of it may splatter if the heat is too high. If you have kids in your party, then you may want to be careful with the oil or touching the very hot cast iron. Not only was the banchan variety terrific, but you could get refills on any of the items. The focus was on fermented vegetables versus offerings like fish cakes or potato salad. As for the assorted pancakes, there was zucchini, jalapeno, and a potato mix that were each pan-fried. The fried rice at the end of the meal was probably unnecessary because we were quite full. The base consisted of rice, seaweed, and gochujang sauce. Our server took some of the banchan and leftover grilled meat and mixed it together with the rice. She told us to let it cook until a crust had formed on the rice. The cost will be reflective of the high quality proteins and top notch service. If you want a Korean BBQ experience that differs from the typical AYCE model, then try SOT BBQ as we graded our dinner at a five star level."
"Surprisingly better than I expected. 4.5 round down for the price being a little on the high end. We ordered to go and hubster said the manager/ owner was very kind and gave the extra tomato salsa/ coleslaw when he arrived to pick up. Cheese balls are a must. Crispy crunchy outside with a touch of sweetness from the cheese dust. We liked this a lot. The boneless chicken are breast meat chicken chunks. We were expecting strips. But the pieces are big and meaty and moist. Preference was for the wings with bones. Original was not bad but pretty basic. Similar to the green bag of chicken nuggets chunks from Costco that social media parallels to chick filet.Kids loved the corn cheese and honey butter chicken chunks. Hubster liked the spicy wings. It was a kick spicier than gochujjang (korean red pepper paste. Good solid gentle burn.I liked the jalapeño mayo. It's messy to eat but delicious. All in all we were pretty surprised. It's definitely better than the chicken place that used to be there and completely different style. Notably different and better. Do recommend and will return for korean chicken cravings."
"Great value for the food. I ordered jjmyeon and it was only $11 for a portion large enough for two small servings. The taste is decent with small bits of pork and veggies. The noodles were chewy and bouncy. Watching all the mukbangs with people chomping down on jjajamyeon had me craving some for real. This was a quick meal to satisfy."
"I've been to the jomaru in convoy, but this location I went for a work lunch. Inside it's very clean, a good amount of parking in the area, easy to find. Service is fast, employees are super nice. Seafood pajun was one of the better ones I've tried. I do wish it was a little more crispier but, still very good. I would get it again. The hae jang guk is a personal, and I want to go as far as saying it was better than the one I had in convoy. It is served with a bowl of rice. Super freaking delicious. The banchan is all really good. The kimchi is the more citrusy kind but the crunch is there. The potato is super good. If I wasn't so full from my meal, I would've asked for a 3rd round of banchan. If there was something I could change, I would say don't serve the rice until your meal w the rice comes out too if it's going to be uncovered. Our rice was served w our banchan, so it sat for some time and the rice wasn't has hot anymore. All in all, 5/5 I would definitely come back again. Everything tasted amazing and my coworkers were extremely satisfied w their meals too."
"Great wang mandoo (king size Korean dumplings) at reasonable price. The house made jokpall looks really good but haven't tried it yet. It's inside the Zion grocery store, not the food court. You buy it from the lady working there and not at the register up front. It's a to go place. Bring it home and have with some Korean alcohol."
"The carousel at the H Mart food court on Balboa Ave continues as the previous vendor lasted at this stall for less than four months before being replaced by KZ Mori. The featured menu items were katsu (breaded meat cutlets) with or without curry. The available proteins were chicken, pork, and fish. The last was unusual as most places offer only the first two types. This cuisine was a much better fit than burgers from its predecessor.Curry Pork was my choice. Rice, miso, and cabbage were included with the set. The staff didn't seem to be bombarded with customers, however it took an awfully long time for my order to be prepared. Even with a numbered beeper, I had to inquire about the status after waiting over 20 minutes. If I had not done so to get their attention, then it might have been another several more minutes before I received my food. The kitchen may have felt bad and made an extra cutlet to add to the takeout container. That was certainly positive along with the crispiness of the product. An issue though was that one cutlet was so large that it exceeded the container which could not be properly closed. Another area of needed improvement was the amount of rice provided. It should have been double the portion size to match up with the amount of curry which was smooth and had a decent level of spiciness. The prices seemed fair. If this business can become more efficient with the freshly prepared katsu, then that will leave a better impression about the wait time. For now, I gave a 3.5 star rating for my experience at KZ Mori."
"A local Asian family has been expanding its empire in the Convoy District with this new venture featuring a late night closing time. Dalbam Moon Night has replaced a short-lived Japanese kushiyaki and ramen shop in the same plaza as Cross Street Chicken and Beer. The seating capacity was limited to less than three dozen customers spread across a few booths and tables. Casual Korean comfort food was the theme of the menu with appetizers, noodles, soups/stews, hot pot, and entrees as the category choices. For my meal, I started with the Bindaedduk which was a meat and vegetable pancake served with a soy dipping sauce. The item took longer to prepare so it didn't arrive at my table until after my entree. The pancake was crispy and had sufficient flavor that I didn't need to use much of the sauce. The other dish I selected was the Bulgogi with chicken as the protein and glass noodles as a side. It was pretty typical except that I didn't select beef as the traditional meat. I wished the portion size was more for the $20+ price.I did receive unlimited banchan servings of which there were four types... seasoned bean sprouts, seasoned spinach, kimchi, and creamy coleslaw. That was a nice complimentary touch given I had recently visited another new Korean eatery which did not offer any banchan with my food. Between this and the polite service, I rounded my rating up to four stars for my dinner at Dalbam Moon Night."
"Came after a Wave game and ordered 2 rolls, 1 hand roll, and 1 cold sake. Rolls were good, but never got the sake. When we notified them, they fixed it but added a hot green tea. We never ordered that. Asked for them to fix it again. When they did, they took off the hand roll which was a really nice gesture of them. Tiger roll was flavorful. Lots of sauce and pretty good. Rainbow roll was good but a lot of imitation crab. Spicy salmon had some lingering heat, different than wasabi heat. Aside from the bill discrepancy, service was quick. Outdoor seating was great. Lots of space between tables and there were plenty of servers circulating if we needed anything. Would come back again when that sushi craving hits."
"Korean fast food at its finest. Hansang boxes and bibimbap rice bowls are solid complete meals. I've also had the bulgogi poutine fries and those are an award winning snack. Staff are always friendly. Don't forget to check in to claim your free soda with purchase. Oh, did I mention it's mall fast food...? Please don't expect anything gourmet here or in any mall food court."
"The previous Korean Fried Chicken (KFC) chain sold their business to new owners who have brought Crispy Chicken n' Tomato to replace all of the locations in the SD area. This happens to be the #1 KFC business in Japan with the shop in La Jolla Village Square being the first one to debut recently. The inside capacity was close to 60 with several tables on the sidewalk out front for additional seating. Whole chicken, wings, and boneless pieces were available in different portions with nine different sauces and three kinds of seasonings to flavor the chicken. On my first visit last week, I picked a half (8 pcs) chicken with sauce. Honey Soy was my choice. A cup of tomato salsa (similar to pico de gallo) and a cup of sweet pickled radish n' jalapeno came with the order. When I brought a friend for a return visit, we split two small (8 pcs) orders of wings with Black Aglio and Chicken the Yori as the sauces. We also purchased one of the four Lunch Specials which was the Chicken Plate. The set had four boneless pieces, four wings, corn slaw, and veggie fried rice. Classic Mild was our sauce choice for the chicken. The crust on the chicken was fairly crunchy while the size of the wings was average. Below was a description of each sauce type. What I did like was how none of them was overly salty. My favorite was the Chicken the Yori.* Honey Soy - special soy sauce, slightly spicy yet sweet* Black Aglio - special soy sauce inspired with garlic* Chicken the Yori - special soy sauce marinated with garlic, chili, and a hint of spice* Classic Mild - mild spicy with a hint of sweetnessThe Lunch Special was available from 11 am to 3 pm every day. While the selection of sauces was limited to one of three, the price for the amount of food was the best value. Six appetizers and seven sides provided more variety if you wanted something besides chicken. Orders took about 15 minutes to prepare as the kitchen made them fresh. Between the two experiences, I gave a four star rating for the food at Crispy Chicken n' Tomato."
"I'm convinced that the best Korean BBQ is in Convoy.Parking isn't difficult but tight. The dining area is clean and spacious. Regardless of the slippery/sticky floors and the poor ventilation, their food is the best.Yes, your clothes and hair will be smelling like bulgogi for a day but that's sexy right!? Their portions and servings are huge! The kimchi fried rice with egg and their steamed eggs are unique compared to other AYCE Korean BBQ spots. Service is excellent. Servers and bussers work diligently. Kalyna is top notch. Very friendly and welcoming. I'll be back for sure.If you find yourself in Convoy and can't decide where to eat, give this place a try. You won't be disappointed and you'll thank me later."
"I celebrated my birthday at Choi's and had a wonderful experience. Our group ordered the following:1) Bonchon Salad - Cucumber, Arugula, Kale, Sesame Seeds, Crispy Onions, Balsamic Vinaigrette2) Scallops on the Half Shell - Scallop Tataki on the Half Shell with Korean Chili Oil, Barrel-Aged Shoyu, Micro Cilantro, Sesame Seeds3) Pork Belly Bossam - Sous Vide Pork Belly served with Kimchi, Lettuce, Gochujang Sauce4) Galbi Bowl - Beef Short Ribs with Smoked Truffle Sea Salt, Green Onions, Kimchi, Sesame Seeds over Rice5) Hotteok with Vanilla Ice Cream - Pan-fried Pancake filled with Brown Sugar Syrup, topped with VanillaIce CreamThe Galbi bowl was the highlight for me. I was also very impressed with the Hotteok dessert, as I have a bit of a sweet tooth. The vibe in the restaurant is really exceptional, and it's situated right in the heart of downtown SD, near the baseball stadium. This is a relatively new restaurant, and I will be rooting for their continued success as they are really doing some exceptional things."
"Interesting little Japanese-Korean restaurant! They had a little bit of both, a taste of Japan and a taste of Korea! Our hostess was a sweetheart, she welcomed us and helped us with menu options, she offered items on the menu to pair with our selections and checked in on us regularly. The dining room was open, and spacious. Although the place isn't very big, it did not feel cramped at all. We arrived towards closing time so the staff were already cleaning up for the day. We tried the Mango Wango, which I enjoyed very much! Also had a crunchy roll, I don't remember the name, however, it had tempura, tuna, and avocado. Was good, yet I still enjoyed the Mango Wango over the crunchy roll.Great little spot for a quick bite if you're craving sushi or a good asian entree!"
"Was craving some sushi with a happy hour, glad this was in the area. Here was my experience.AMBIANCE:Parking: Plaza parking, it could get busy during conventional busy times.Seating: Plenty of seating, maybe 50 people. Good for groups and even solo bar seating. Vibes: Welcome to Convoy! There are a lot of eateries. The spot itself is high energy, especially with the KPop music playing. You can socialize, borderline get some work done but moreover it's a loungy place.FOOD:Dragon Roll (Recommend) I was looking something crunchy with some unagi/eel flavor and this was it. Shrimp tempura, crab meat, eel, avocado, and eel sauce all in a lovely roll.Baek Se Ju (Recommend)I enjoyed this wine. It had a great earthy taste and I got a good buzz from it.Earthy wine.Takowasa (A-Ok)It's nice but not much of a fan personally. Raw octopus in "tiger milk" with some wasabi. Fresh but a bit too rubbery on my end. I'd save my stomach for other dishes on their menu.CUSTOMER SERVICE:James was my server. He was a good dude.TL; DR OVERALL:4 Stars. Great! Good selection of food, reasonable prices, and a pleasant experience. I'm open to coming back here, possibly using their rooms for karaoke. Until next time!TIPS:* Check out their happy hour."
"I remember they used to better, but the quality has gone down. We got the shrimp tempura, hamachi Kama, jalapeño yellowtail, salmon carpaccio, bluefin tuna nigiri, yellowtail nigiri, toro nigiri, and seared black tuna sashimi. The raw portions were big cuts of fish, but they were not so fresh. I actually enjoyed the cooked items more- like the shrimp tempura and hamachi Kama. Service was also very slow. We sat outside and were not attended to for quite some time. I heard their chirashi bowl is really good, so I might try that next time!"
"Finally made my way to dine in, just like my initial review I was beyond impressed with this place. Everything tasted amazing and it surpassed the flavor from my first order. Service was amazing and our waitress was beyond friendly. They had K-pop playing in the background and it definitely added to the experience. The portions are on the larger side and we definitely ordered more than enough food for two people. We ended up paying around $70 which surprised us. We have become obsessed with this place and have already been back a few times."
