"Da Real Deal Black Seed OilI shop here for five reasons: 1) black seed oil, 2) Jerusalem olive oil, 3) whole coffee beans, 4) teas and 5) hard to find spices.Although this market offers a lot more to a variety of culture and diaspora cultures. The black seed oil is pressed every single day. It can't get more organic than that. Jerusalem olive oil is only sold here. Can't get more original than that. It's an all purpose oil in my home. I dip my bread in it with French sea salt. My hair is luxurious. My skin is radiant. My make-up is removed easily. And my DIY body scrub is buttery soft.No need to comment on customer service because every single customer is "the family."Prices are incredibly fairHey you..reading this...you will be given immeasurably more than you can imagine."
"The Corner Mercantile & Eatery is a very convenient stop for those who need last minute food supplies for a day of kayaking or swimming at nearby La Jolla Shores. Parking is not easy in this area as everyone is looking for a spot before spending time at the beach. If you can make a quick run, then there is a 15-minute parking space across the street. The place had numerous shelves of dried goods. Next to the service counter was a refrigerated display of deli meats, cheeses, and salads. A small menu board was posted above and behind the register. A few small tables were available inside along with a large one right outside the front entrance. My goal was to pick up a sandwich on the go. I ended up choosing a chicken salad inside a French croissant. It came as two pieces with the tasty salad stuffed in the middle. The croissant was crispy and flaky. Perhaps the serving size could have been larger for the price. I gave my visit here a rating between three and four stars."
"Vien Dong has been around for many moons. Vien Dong means "far east," and it is an appropriate name because the store offers Asian goods. I actually remember when there used to be a Vien Dong location in Linda Vista, which is now Thuan Phat. But enough on the history, and on to what brought us here.We were in the neighborhood to visit the restaurant Phuong Nga to grab lunch, but the wifey wanted to check this store out first.I expected a fishy smell, which is common in many Asian markets, but upon entering I was pleasantly surprised that the smell was more subtle than expected. So this market has a lot of Asian goods that you won't find at an American grocery store. They sell a wide variety of noodles like rice noodles, egg noodles, flat noodles, ramen, etc. You want fish sauce, plum sauce, Hoisin, oyster, chili paste, Sriracha, or black bean in chili oil? Meats or seafood? Chicken, pork, beef, shrimp, fish? Vien Dong has you covered! They sell fruits and vegetables that are unique to Asian markets, and some that I don't even know the English translation for. The produce appeared to be fresh, and it seemed to be well stocked. They also sell other Asian goods here like cookware, snacks, pick up and go foods, Vietnamese coffee, teas, and other drinks. The store could be cleaner in certain areas, and it could definitely use to TLC, remodeling, upgrades or whatever you want to call it, in other areas (such as the flooring).I can't comment on the service because we didn't purchase anything here. If we needed to cook up an Asian dish at home, and we were in the neighborhood, then this is a store we would visit.3.5 / 5 - Food Items and Goods3 / 5 - Service (probably average)2.8 / 5 - Cleanliness3 / 5 - Prices3 / 5 - Overall"
"Great tiny liquor store. Terrific selection of everything. There were nice wines, beers, ice creams, frozen dinners, toiletries, candy bars and cigarettes. Service was super friendly. My only complaint is the overwhelming perfumey stench. It was so strong my eyes started to water."
"I was desperate for somewhere to eat in this incredibly residential neighborhood. Ibis Market to the rescue! It's a combination convenience store (including liquor) and deli counter specializing in Mediterranean/Middle Eastern food. I ordered a falafel plate and stuffed grape leaves. They were kind enough to heat the falafel up for me. Everything was delicious, especially the garlic sauce! Prices were really reasonable. The people working here were super nice and even came outside to make sure I was enjoying my food! If I lived in this neighborhood I would love to consistently support this business!"
"One-Stop Shopping. Friendly service and great prices. These folks are definitely NOT GREEDY. You want a phone, new keys made, UHAUL or milk, come here. You want tools, incense or Money Orders, pay utility bills or buy beer or hard liquor at, this is your place. Great Parking too."
"GET THE SANDWICHES HERE IF ITS THE LAST THING YOU DO! So delicious and fresh made. So much flavor and all on fresh focaccia bread. Pricing is so fair, around $10 for a massive sandwich. I always get the Baja turkey and add mustard. If they have the elote corn dip in the refrigerator section I highly recommend purchasing but beware it is spicy. Sometimes the wait for the sandwiches can be a while but totally worth it. Good tip is to walk to the park at the end of the street to eat your sandwich"
"I just love my local Barons which has replaced the old Fresh n' Easy from back in the day. Parking gets tight but don't forget the parking garage below. I usually walk here. Plenty of options for hot/cold foods, can get your freshly squeezed orange juice, and my favorite raw garlic spread. They also have the best variety of olive oils, flavored and balsamic vinegars too. Place is always clean, and staff are always friendly :)"
"Main St. in El Cajon has become a hub for Mediterranean/Middle Eastern grocery stores and another one has opened, Big Bear Produce. What an adorable name, right? They even have a bear on their big, bright signage. For me what sets them apart is that they're a full-service market compressed in a smaller, easily navigable space. They have a hot food section offering beef and chicken shawarma and a handful of other dishes like lentil soup, rice and potatoes. They make their own bread and baklava (they're pretty good!) and also have a meat section with halal/non-halal meats. The staff here has always been friendly and greet me with a smile when I walk in. On one occasion when I picked up some beef shawarma, the lovely lady threw in two complimentary sammoon bread with my order! How sweet of her :)btw they cut their shawarma really thick here...and it's always been very moist and nicely seasoned. Delish!Produce is fresh and reasonably priced. It may be limited at times, but they always have a decent selection. It's my new favorite Mediterranean grocery store."
"Covid review #72 --- They've been here 25 years and I'm finally trying a sandwich. For longevity and charming hole-in-the-wall type quality, I give 5 stars. "I hope they don't close the outside, " he said as he, the very nice man and very nice lady of the international market entertained my ramblings about our California governor's recent decisions to allow Hollywood be exempt from his newest covid rules whims, while the rest of us have to be home by 10pm for a month... yeah right, they said 2 weeks about 9 months ago... And how the governor was caught eating in an intimate private room with 12 others from different households while he advised us not to celebrate Thanksgiving... and how people can go into strip clubs to be entertained but not into churches to worship... ...but I digress... boy, were they patient with me while I waited for my freshly grilled sandwich. They deserve an award. In all my rambling their beautiful teapot caught my eye and I ended up adding a delicious Persian tea to my takeout order. I added 1 sugar cube upon advisement from the local experts. My sandwich traveled well. I ate half in my car and then the other half at home with a little vino... it was a beef tenderloin sandwich afterall.Plenty of nearby parking to run in and run out. They also have a small attached market. I found unique items like rose jam, sumac and canned babaganoush. If you're hankering for Mediterranean and want to support a small local business, this is your next spot."
"This little store gets very busy on days there are games at Jack Murphy--I mean Qualcommm-- I mean SDCCU Stadium. After all, it's right up the hill from it.It's a very well stocked and well organized mini-mart. I went there to pick up a six-pack of beer, and was amazed at the variety of beer (and wine) available. There was a short line at checkout, but the friendly guy at the counter handled the business very efficiently.Despite being a liquor store, this is a great store for food or pantry items, too."
"Selection is limited but it is of good quality. Deli is dynamic!! Moreover this is a family-owned business which is an endangered species."

The Mid East Market has all things Mediterranean/Middle East and somehow packs all that into a pretty small space given their selection. I love that they have not only one of everything you could possibly be looking for, but they have multiple brands of most items as well, so you can be sure to get your favorite. Dry goods out the wazoo, but also a huge selection of frozen and fresh prepared foods. The garlic spread that they make is to die for. Staff is so nice and will help you find anything you need. They are attentive enough to notice if you biked or walked in and then package up your goods to make it easier to get them home with your mode of transport.

Came for a quick lunch on Christmas eve. They have a good selection of sandwiches! I believe it was the owner who we ordered with and stopped by to chat with us during the stay. Very friendly and eccentric.I will say, 'you know you're in La Jolla when...' two deli sandwiches and a drink costs you about $45, haha. But they were definitely tasty. We got the spicy salami on focaccia bread and the Corner club on ciabatta. The spicy salami (warm sandwich) was more petite but is also super decadent so the portion makes sense. The corner club had generous portions and was my favorite between the two. They were both very gourmet, fresh, and with good quality ingredients. Not your basic sammy at all.

I've been a fan of Vien Dong since I shopped with them in their long-defunct Linda Vista store. Vien Dong Supermarket 4 is smaller than that one was, and it's also smaller than its sister, World Foods Supermarket on El Cajon Blvd.; than Clairemont/Kearney Mesa's 99 Ranch Markets; and than many other local Asian stores. But smaller doesn't mean less. I've purchased live shellfish at Vien Dong 4 - blue and Dungeness crab, crawfish and shrimp - along with spices and other supplies for multiple backyard seafood boils. The store's owner, San, has been helpful, to the point of giving me first look at boxes of crabs when they come in.Over the 10 years that I've patronized VD4, I've had a couple of problems. But when the store was at fault, they've always made things right, usually while I wait, which begs the question: were they really problems, or just delays? [NOTE: I don't really count getting pushed around by sharp-elbowed aunties as a problem; I have a couple hundred pounds on them, and I give as good as I get.]Anyway, the grocer's prices are competitive and I'm happy with their service, so unless I need something they don't carry, convenience wins, and Vien Dong 4 Supermarket is my Asian store of choice.

I love this little Market. So convenient so I don't have to venture into the GasLamp! I typically stop in before the weekend to buy beer or lotto tickets. Recently went in and found Duraflame single logs after driving all over town trying to find them. Paid an arm and leg for it but it was worth not having to drive further. Stop in and see Mike and Frank...they have anything you are in a pinch for!

Best deal for lunch! Only 6.99 for a deli sandwich and side of potato salad. Their Armenian potato salad costs a bit more but is totally worth it. It's similar to German in that there is no mayo. Love the lemon and herbs! I could eat a bucket of it and even skip the sandwich. They also have a great variety of sides including baba ghanoush, hummus, bean salads, beet salad, and a wide selection of soups. I enjoyed the first half of my Italian sandwich on dark squaw bread with dill pickle spear. But I added some chili crisp when I got home, to punch it up even more. I used to come here years ago just for their dolmas- stuffed grape leaves which are so much better than the ones at grocery chains. Will definitely have to start doing that again!

Yay! I'm a fan! This Mini Mart is standard, but is run pretty well.I'll usually stop by here for a quick in and out on things I'll need before getting the night started on the weekends, or things like a snack or milk. They have a good selection of drinks I usually pick up before going out or partying hahaNamely Mikes Hard Lemonade, which they have a good amount of flavors I hadn't tried before (check out the cherry lime flavor) or tall cans. All standard pricing on them ($2-3 for the regular cans, $4-5 for the bigger ones). They also have 2 for $4 on Monster Energy.Half-gallons of milk at $2.99.The main guy I always see there looks very happy to be attending customers, will greet you with a smile, crack a joke or two and wish you a 'Merry Christmas!' on your way out (yes, even in April haha).Wait times are never too long.Like I said: a standard, but well run mini mart :)

This is a fabulous place to pick-up fresh oranic foods, and a bite to eat for lunch. I'd just like to see some fresh hot coffee by Kean Coffee in Tustin, CA.

Barons Market is my new place to go for prepared foods and some decent pastries in small amounts. I remembered when this spot used to be Fresh n Easy but that concept died. What I like most about it is availability of parking (critical in an area like 32nd and University. The heart of North Park dining with fast food and restaurants is a parking nightmare during peak times for brunch or other events.Their prepackaged foods are the best because of the lower cost than Lazy Acres from my former area in Mission Hills. However inflation is catching up since my costs on the last run was higher than expected. The have a pasta, olive and salad bar. They have a soup station as well as hot station with some meats and or sides that you can choose from. The hot station is not as appealing. The pasta and soup section are my go tos. Love the shrimp gumbo, I only get the smallest container but I still am not able to finish it. They also have both steak and vegetarian chili. In the pasta section, favorite is the lemon linguine with tomatoes. The best part of the prepackaged section is the serving size of the meals. My husband no longer eats big meals so that portion normally will be served to him twice. The bakery section consists of breads etc but I normally buy some of those elsewhere. The dessert section with choices baklavas or madeline cookies. For me a smaller place is good for some things like Trader Joe's. So I normally make Barons 1 of 3 groceries I go to on Sunday. Definitely a nice quiet place to shop without the hustle and bustle of a TJ.
Visit Restaurant Page"This lil gem is a neighborhood favorite of mine for years! Living in the allied garden, mission valley and college area, this was one of my go to grocery stores, still is! Literally one of three stores that I go to for all my food items. This store is out a little out of the way, but I make a day out of it running errands on the weekend. What keeps me coming back? The Bacon!!! Yes, the bacon. There's something that I just love about it. It's the most delicious bacon in my opinion! There are so many other wonderful things I keep coming back for too... the chicken salad, the black pepper & herb steak (all in the deli section!) They have an amazing deli counter to make sandwiches which is super busy at lunch time! The have a great selection at the counter to just grab anything you can think of already prepped and ready to cook when you get home. A huge selection of fresh veggies. Your unique finds and the biggest selection of snacks! Everything from your healthy nuts, to gummies of every single kind, and yogurt covered pretzels. So yummy! I love supporting our local small business. The staff is always super friendly and they even have a self check counter now!"
"Drove the drive for the Handmade tortillas and Yelp with the Boys before the Year Ends. Not sure what well eat,as we all have different cravings.Tortilleria Adelita makes the best flour tortillas, I never had the Corn. However,I believe there is a minimum of how many packs you can grab unless you call in advance. It may be 2packs per person(Sign says 2tortillas) but I believe they meant 2packs."
"My hubby buys fruits for making his juices from this outlet. During the Covid-19 outbreak, we went together for the first time to buy a few things we needed. They had essentials items in stock as well, like bottle water. It was nice that they also carry some Mexican products too! We grabbed what we needed and were even able to use Apple pay. I'm glad that this place is so close to home and prices are affordable too."
"MINI-MART MASHUPCheck out the Food Bowl, which is the local neighborhood mashup of a mini-market: deli, winery, pizza making and taco shop. Seriously, they even offer check cashing, money orders and other fiscal services. And if it's fresh meat you're looking for, you have choices. From fresh organic produce to ethnic products, I like this store.KUDOS FOR CARNE ASADAHold up, taco shops! Because Food Bowl's carne asada tacos and burritos are rocking some serious flavor, loaded with all the fixin's that make your taste buds groove. Note carne asada burrito comes with beans. The surf and turf diablo burrito - that's next on my must-try list.CONVENIENCE VERSUS UPCHARGEReal talk: prices might raise an eyebrow, but the sheer convenience if you live in the neighborhood is that it is closer than the grocery store. "Even though you're growing up, you should never stop having fun." - Nina Dobrev."
"Great little market. The people who work here are always nice and the products are fresh. They also sell home made breads and sweets."
"Best quick stop market with cost equivalent to big box Super Markets. If they don't have it in your first visit it will be available next visit."
"I love the little upgrades they've been adding throughout the years. It's starting to look real nice! The primary reason I go here is for their tortillas. They have a ice box by the meat dept. Full of hot corn tortillas. And if you're looking for flour tortillas, they too are hot and fresh in the bakery. The prices are always cheaper here but it's because you should anticipate to eat the stuff TODAY. Especially the meat and fruit. Which is okay with me. I've been saving money buying like that. Buying the meals of the day and I've never gotten sick. I recommend their tacos at their food stand. And the chicharrones are yummy too. Never stale. I'll also note: some friends of mine who are restaurant owners buy their meat and tortillas here. ;-) keep that in mind."
"Man I love this placeWe've been going here for years and they never disappoint! They've got the best guacamole! They also have great salsas. And don't forget their carne asada. We pick up a few pounds every other week or so and throw so great BBQs with their meat. If you're feeling lazier, they BBQ a mean Tri-Tip outside the store. I recommend getting their Tortas with the tri-tip... SOO goodThey just remodeled and expanded so the store is more spacious. Teresa still runs the register. Her service is great. She's the nicest lady ever... so thoughtful and caring"
"Got to bump these guys up to a fiver (!)... My last couple of trips have been sandwiches made beautifully and with care, and always loaded down with heaps of dead beast and generous helpings of cheese and goodies. I highly recommend the roast beef sandwich here- Really high quality meat, and for the money you just can't do much better. Thanks, guys!"
"Everything I was looking for preparing an Italian meal. Sun Dried Tomatoes , Extra Virgin Italian Olive Oil, Pistachio Cream, and Anchovies. Great selection of wine, cheeses, meats, pastas, sauces, etc. Reasonable prices and excellent customer service and satisfaction. Another hidden treasure within Little Italy!"
"Love this place! The food is wonderful and fresh. I don't feel guilty stopping in for a bite, because I can also pick up some groceries. The grocery store has more international items. Explore new or familiar foods! I always leave having over eaten and buying too many things."
"Día de los Reyes Day is celebrated on January 6th. Each person cuts into the rosco and the lucky one gets the part with the plastic figurine of baby Jesus. I visited Carnival Market to get some Rosco de Reyes. King bread starts with a bread base like Day of the Dead bread. Nice and moist with a mild flavor. Loved the sugary glaze on top with added some sweetness and the dried fruit which added a fruity sweetness. I love this bread and look forward to getting it again next year.I also tried some other items.Concha was soft and mild flavored. Sugar glaze on top gave this treat a delicious sweet flavor. Fresh tortillas were still warm when I brought them home and tried them. Soft and had a delicious mild flavor.Fried fish was a battered white fish. I liked the mild flavor and the crispy batter. Excellent value.Bbq ribs were fall off the bone tender. Tasted like they were baked. Very mild flavor without the sauce. I liked the sauce which had a sweet bbq flavor.Rotisserie chicken was fall off the bone tender. Nice flavor. Comparable to other supermarket rotisserie chickens. So far Costco is my favorite as the freshness and flavor is the best I've had from a market.Fried drumsticks had a crunchy skin and tender juicy chicken. I liked the mild fried flavor. Excellent value. The meats were on par with meats from other Mexican markets I've tried. The tortillas tasted much better than the pre packaged tortillas you see in major grocery store chains."
"This is grandmas go-to market for all things international. It's pretty decent across the board with a huge smattering of all kinds of fresh produce, meats, deli, and packaged goods. I'm partial to Trader Joe's for better prices, but there are plenty of things here that you can't find there."
"I love this market. It has a variety of options for good health. I'm so happy with the food I enjoy many different dishes. The salad bar is good too. The bakery has many special fresh baked goodies. An Amazing American believer dream store. Go check it out you will be happy you did."
"Covid 22nd reviewMy French friend was in heaven here. All the hard to find French goodies were here for her. I had fun looking at and learning about french foods. Escargot, duck, rillette, St. Michel...Also, the free cookie with check in was by St. Michel. Very cool!"
"Baron's Market saved me! My husband and I were going to make an anniversary dinner and recreate some of the recipes we learned in Italy. After going to two of the large chain grocery stores near my home, I returned home, tired and still lacking two ingredients. The dinner was planned for the next day. I was going to be very busy that day and didn't feel like having to drive out of my neighborhood or dealing with traffic and parking. I called Barons, and lo and behold... they had both! The next morning when I went in, I asked for help and was directed quickly to the items. It was early in the morning, so I got some fresh, hot coffee with skim milk while I was there... it was exactly what I needed.A few days ago, I returned to Barons. I was picking up a few things for a celebration with friends. I chose some olives and feta from the olive bar, a couple unique bottles of wine, and some Lambrusco balsamic vinegar. The pastries in the bakery section look amazing... I will try them next time!"
"A top notch deli right in the neighborhood! The sandwich menu is expansive-special creations or create your own, which I chose today. I couldn't decide, but with the suggestions from the great woman behind it all, we came up with cheddar, roast beef, veggies and squaw bread. I only asked for 1/2 sandwich which they will prepare if asked. Still, I received a sky high beauty! Now, I've learned from previous visits that I just can't exit without one of their salads from the deli case. Today the choices included deli macaroni or potato, a mayonnaise-less potato and herb, hummus, full-size meal salads, and cucumber-garbanzo. I chose the cucumber. Also in the deli case were dolma, and a sweet baklava for dessert. The sandwich, now cut in two, and 1/3 of the cucumber salad -fruit fit the calorie-less meal plan for my Saturday lunch. It's just so nice to have this awesome deli close by. As the woman at the counter said to me, "I just want to make you guys healthier." See?"
"Walking into the store, you're immediately hit with this amazing, warm, and comforting scent of food cooking and the way I like to come home. There are so many reasons to like this store, especially for someone not native to anywhere close to the Middle East. Here are a few:1. Fresh baked bread in a stone/clay oven - nothing comes close.2. Huge selection of pickles, olives, and olive oil, with good prices.3. The mini restaurant in the back of the store - the beef shawarma by itself - is worth the trip.4. Freshly made hummus, baba ganoush, and tabouli.5. Excellent and reasonably priced spices and dried herbs - make this your first stop the next time you need to refill your supply.I seem to find myself getting lost in here every time I go because there's so much to discover and learn. This time, I was able to find chai tea in a tea bag - no added sugar. I can't wait to try it! The jewel of today's visit was definitely Nowar (sp?), the sweetest and hard-working lady who took the "restaurant's" orders, served hot bar items, and answered the phone for pickup orders. She said her name meant "gift" in Arabic. While she was getting pulled from here to there, she kept her cool and stayed calm despite how busy they were. Thank you, Nowar, for being my gift today."
"As far as authentic Mexican groceries this is the best. In a spirit of transparency this is a homer review as I grew up less than a block away. If I lived in East village I would skip Albertson's and come here for anything I needed that Sawaya sells. The groceries are inexpensive and nice. You aren't going to have a large selection of craft beer but If you are making guacamole and don't want to drain your wallet come here. The hot food and tortillas are the real MVPs. The chipotle chicken!!! I inhale it every time I get it. The costillas en salsa verde o roja are just phenominal. The tortillas are fresh and awesome. The pan dulce is meh but Lucy's is a few blocks away so it doesn't matter. The thing I detest is the $0.75 fee for credit of debit. That is highway robbery. Its like stealing from the poor."
"The place used to be good maybe about 20 years ago, but now since the economy and covid happened, everything just been very slow and the business also went downhill. When I first moved to City Heights, I live on 41st street, so it would be walking distance for me to get some groceries especially to cook Vietnamese or Chinese food, their seafood and poultry aren't the best, mostly frozen and not fresh, a bit old as well, but everything else from vegetables, spices, fruits, Asian specialties were ok, if you don't live near Vien Dong, you can grab similar items here, for a small market that is; my grandpa spoke to the owner, it seems he planned to close down if the business doesn't get better this year, I felt very bad to see it go though."
"I came by here this morning for a quick breakfast fix. There was a little bit of a wait as patrons came in and she helped them prior to finishing up our order. For breakfast I tried the: Eggs, Cheese, and Bacon Breakfast Sandwich on a bagel along with a Bagel with Cream Cheese and Bacon. While waiting I wandered around the whole store and it is your typical family market/liquor store. The service was average and fine, nothing special besides a little wait and her trying to be apologetic about that wait. The bacon was disappointing in the sandwich and the whole order felt rather small. The bagel was tasty though! I would prefer going to Eintstein or somewhere else rather than here, but it can be convenient for those nearby. Other than that for those seeking drinks and snacks, this place is awesome for that."
"I came here to have some papers faxed after the Linda Vista Library Librarian told me about this place. I waited for the confirmation page which took awhile.$1.50 per page to fax That's 50 cents more that UPS. I didn't want to go to another place since I was there already. Faxed 10 pages."
