Lauren W. "Good experience here and good vibes. Came in on a Thursday afternoon randomly because we were in the area. Lots of tables for a smaller-sized front of house, good seating arrangement. We had the grilled swordfish plate and the grilled halibut plate. Both were fresh and seasoned well. Not shy on the spices and herbs here! Brussels as a side is a must do. Overall very healthy and good size portions. Pricing was reasonable at an average of $25 for a grilled seafood plate with two sides. The server was really nice and attentive. She wasn't fake-nice either, more like, down-to-earth nice. Made the experience that much better. Very chill vibes."

Hamitbach

Emmett T. "Hamitbach is an Israeli restaurant located on the outdoor patio of the Chabad of Downtown San Diego. If you come at the right time, then there are open parking spaces adjacent to the building that you can use while visiting. Because of their observance of the Jewish calendar, the place is closed on Saturday and only open for a few hours on Friday afternoon. Normal operating hours begin at noon from Sunday to Friday. The food was served cafeteria style. You pick the vehicle... pita, baguette, laffa (flatbread), or plate and then a protein... chicken shawarma, kifta (ground meatball) kabab, chicken pargiot (thigh), chicken schnitzel, or falafel. Except for the falafel, all the other proteins and whichever vehicle was selected cost $20+ each. That was rather pricey for a pita or baguette. Behind the service counter, you could see a spit on which the shawarma was cooking. There was also a flat-top grill to warm the other meats.I had never tried chicken thighs as an item at a Middle Eastern eatery. The pargiot was my choice as a plate. A generous selection of vegetarian sides (e.g. slaw) filled the round metallic dish along with hummus, tahini, and flatbread. The cubed chicken thighs were marinated with a seasoning containing onions, parsley, garlic, and spices. The flavor was mild while the meat was very juicy. Before I sat down at a picnic table, there was a station of complimentary side dishes adjacent to the service counter. Pickles, olives, fried eggplant, and what looked like an Israeli version of kimchi were available to supplement your order. The service was fine from the worker who assembled my plate. I came at an off-hour so only two other parties were seated while I was there. I can only imagine how busy Hamitbach can be after a service has concluded inside the Chabad."

But overall not a bad place to have a beer or two overlooking the ocean below. The views are stunning and calming. Love supporting small businesses like this one. We bought some Clam Chowder to eat at home. It was delicious and the bread was flaky and fresh. Check it out you won't regret it."

"Ordered takeout via their website, so this review is solely based on their food!Got the poke bowl, Baja fish burrito, Mahi tacos, and fish sticks from the kids menu (this is basically a small plate of fish and chips). The Mahi didn't have much flavor but I'm guessing they expect you to salsa it up a bit more. The fish burrito was huge! Everything very reasonably priced and at a convenient location! Would come back for those giant fish burritos if we're back in the area!"

Alicia P. "I ordered the taco combo with two fried pollock tacos and was pleasantly surprised. For $11, each taco had a very large piece of fish that was nicely breaded and fried. It was topped with sliced cabbage with a thousand island dressing. My friend ordered the salmon bowl and was very satisfied! The service was quick. We ate on the patio that had a view of the bay and a bit of shade. I'll definitely be back."

Usman P. "Came to Fin's starving and on a mission for fish tacos. Parking was easy, with a paid public lot just a few feet away. Ambience during Christmas season is very charming. The National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation theme is fun and festive, with the entire bar decked out to the nines in vibrant Christmas decor. They have a decent amount of seating both inside and out.The staff is super friendly, hospitable, and easy to talk to. I'd ordered grilled fish tacos and a makeshift mock tail. Thanks to the help of one of the bartenders helping the other with the order, I was able to get a Beachside Bali minus the liquor.Grilled fish tacos were incredibly overpriced and flavorless at $16 for (2), while the mocktail was essentially an overpriced lemonade with no glam. On the mocktail, that's on me, as that's something off menu and an abnormal request, so I should've known better. My cousin's fish and chips were pretty delicious however; crisp, piping hot, with great texture. If it weren't for the friendly service, overall vibes, great music, and a taste of those fish & chips, I'd honestly be pretty bummed out since my meal wasn't it."

De A. "Food was tasty and delightfully ʻBritishʻ! Iʻve never had a Scotch egg before and it was one of my favorite things about our meal. Fried pickles were average. We should have picked something else - so many places offer fried pickles. My Steak and Ale pie was delicious, but all meat, gravy and mushrooms. If I stop by again, Iʻd try a different pie. Maybe thereʻs something with more vegetables. Bangers and mash? Of course! Potatoes and gravy were terrific. Bangers (sausages) didnʻt have any ʻsnapʻ, like grilled sausages do, but still tasted nice. It might be a different method of preparation for this dish. I had a salad instead of fries, with a classic Balsamic vinaigrette and that was a smart decision: pastry, meat, and potatoes made for a very full stomach. Service was friendly and quick. Atmosphere was lively but not loud. I noticed the late night crowd (we arrived at 9pm) was older, like 30-50, and all seemed to having fun conversations with an eclecticmix of background music: classic Sinatra standardsto modern, mellow rock pop. Iʻd definitely come again, when in the mood for a taste of the British Isles!"

Karen W. "I wanted to check this place out as whenever we visit an area we like to have fresh seafood. We were able to drop hubby off so he could wait in line while we found street parking and got lucky as their parking lot is small. They turned their original parking lot into a large outdoor dining area and it is perfect! First time here so when we were in line, we realized we had to order at the counter so we had to ask the rest of our party ( who found a cozy table outside) what they wanted to order plus 2 of our party was at the hotel and we had to order take out for them so it was quite an order before we got up to the front. We order the kid's salmon plate, a dozen oysters, spicy dorado taco, TKO taco, clam chowder, grilled sea bass plate, grilled red snapper plate, ahi plate, ahi poke bowl, elote taco. Once we ordered they gave us a buzzer so when food is ready, someone would bring out our food.Everything was so fresh and tasty! Best meal we have had lately. Even our grandson enjoyed every bite and he isn't even 2 and he ate nearly the whole plate with two utensils."

Emmett T. "The last time I visited this suite in the Rolando neighborhood, Filipino cuisine was being served. Apparently, a relative of the owner was given an opportunity to run that food service, but it was unable to succeed. The lower line of the new marquee sign noted that 'BBQ & Southern Style Food' was also offered at Bayside Fish & Chips. Those items made up the right menu screen while the left screen displayed the traditional fried seafood fare.I picked the Fish Sandwich which was the first of five listings. A fried whitefish fillet (my choice) or catfish nuggets was available as the protein served on a bun with tartar sauce. The batter used on the fish was a light cornmeal. I appreciated that it was not heavily coated on the fillet. I also ordered a serving of the Creole Gumbo. The roux was not as dark as have I seen in other versions of this classic Southern recipe. A medley of crab pieces, clams, chicken, and andouille sausage was mixed together while a dish of white rice was provided on the side to add into the broth. There were only four tables for on-site dining so most of the business at Bayside Fish & Chips was for takeout orders. The BBQ meats were not available at the time of my afternoon visit. The brisket and pork ribs would be worth trying on another occasion when I am in this neighborhood. The food quality and prices were worth a four star rating."

Perfect texture... almost as if they arrived from a fishing trip. The livers were cooked just right, again! My mom got a full 3-piece chicken dinner and ate almost all of it - she said that, "it was just too good for words." My hubby enjoyed the popcorn chicken this time around; he liked it too.I promise I will try something different next time, although it's hard to change from yumminess you enjoy every time!"

My brother and I were just looking for a casual place to order to-go and take back to our airBnB to eat and this place was perfect! It is super casual and literally a order to-go place only as it is located inside a liquor store and there is no seating around. They open later until 10pm. Parking was easy. It is located inside a strip mall. The prices here were great for seafood. We both got the combo which was $18 which came with your choice of fried fish (2 pieces) and either oysters (3), whole wings (3), tenders (2), shrimp (5) along with your choice of side (fries, macaroni salad, or coleslaw and 2 slices of bread. No drink however. I got my combo with cod, shrimp, and fries. My brother got his with catfish, wings, and coleslaw. It was alot of food and very filling! I did like the catfish better than the cod. Everything tasted fresh and they cooked everything so order... so no fried foods sitting under a heat lamp! All the stuff was crispy and tasty! The cashier was friendly and food came out quick. There was only 1 person in front of us when we went. I did see that they have some lunch specials for only $8, which is a great deal!Would I come here again? Yes I would!! They have many other items I saw that I would like to try next time!!"

"Form the owner of BFF Burgers, Fish, and Fries in La Mesa at Grossmont Center comes Janna's Burgers, Fish and Fries at the Aztec Food Hub on El Cajon Blvd. If you are a fan, Janna is bringing her famous burgers to the hub but with a new gourmet inspired look and taste. That being said, I had her famous combo which came with cheese burger which I updated to a bacon cheese burger, garlic parmesan fries, and one generous portion of fried cod, not to mention a beverage. It's a lot of food, but a delicious amount of food too.The burger was delicious. The quality beef patty was well seasoned and juicy. Janna's secret sauce is outstanding and brings the burger together very well. All the ingredients, the chopped lettuce, sliced ripe tomatoes, the sliced white onions were fresh. The burger also comes with quality pickles and a toasted warm and tasty brioche bun. I definitely loved the burger. Both the garlic fries and fried fish were great. The fries were crinkle fries, which I love, and came with a buttery garlic concoction that was no doubt finger liking good. You can also opt for regular fries. The fried fish was very well prepared. The batter is a house recipe that not only offers great texture via its crispiness but also added flavor as it is well seasoned as well. The fish inside was succulent, flaky, and flavorful. If you like fried fish, check out Janna's fish and chips plate. This place is great and rumors are about that more good things are coming to the menu. Just a note, although there a few wall seats available outside the hub, this location mostly runs as a "to go" or by local delivery establishments. You can order online or at the kiosk at the hub. The people at the front window are friendly."

Anne F. "I got my meal Chicago style (drizzled in sauce) - that was a huge mistake. I don't know what the sauce was, but it wasn't for me and almost made the meal inedible. Ketchup + sweet and sour? Idk, it was hard to eat. I'd only suggest ordering it this way if you know what you're getting into, and maybe get it on the side instead of you're trying it for the first time. That being said I'd still eat here again without the sauce. Everything was fried perfectly! The fish tasted great and I loved the fried okra. The corn nuggets were a favorite and something I'll continue to crave. The banana pudding was just okay to me. I'll probably still order it if I'm craving it and don't feel like making my own since there aren't many places with banana pudding around SD."

Soo H. "I was in this area alot when Huffman's Bbq was open. Looks like redevelopment is closing in. Big modern buildings are replacing the single family houses and little family owned businesses. In Imperial Fish Market you can either buy a pound or more of fish and pay $3 for them to fry it or you can order a basket with fries at the register. I wanted to try the fries so I ordered a 3 piece basket with fries. You can get regular fries or seasoned fries for 50 cents more. I picked the seasoned fries. Fries were crispy with a strong peppery flavor. Next time I think I'll go with no fries as the fish is what I'm really interested in.There is a very good selection of fish that are filleted and ready to fry. I picked the perch as I have not seen it available as fish and chips anywhere else in town. You can get this fish mild or spicy. I picked mild. Fish comes coated in a mild corn meal batter which tasted unseasoned. Mild flavor was a bit too mild as the perch was very mild flavored. My mom made a delicious perch dish where the perch was marinated in a soy ginger sauce and steamed. I don't like spicy food but I would like a third option like small amount of spice above mild.I like how there are tons of choices for what fish you want fried but Sally's Fish House is my favorite spot for fish and chips as they batter sea bass with the exact level of spice I love."

There are a few tables inside to sit and eat, but we decided to get our order to go. The gentleman at the register was very friendly and took our order quickly. The menu is small, but that was fine with us, it just means that they don't try to stray away from what they're good at. The fish was beautifully fried. Nice and crisp without being overly breaded or greasy. It was delicious. The fries were crisp and yummy. The vinegar and tartar sauce were delish. The price was reasonable for the portion size.
