"My brother was in town and wanted to try some Filipino food after visiting his fiance's family in the Philippines. We saw this spot had great reviews so we decided to give a try. We decided to split an order of the chicken pancit canton and bbq chicken with garlic rice. All of the food was delicious and I'd happily come back. We sat outside on the sidewalk to enjoy the nice weather but there's a decent sized indoor seating area as well."
"This is definitely a hole in the wall joint. My brother discovered this place and it is a great breakfast spot. Place looked pretty small and empty and there was only one person serving and taking orders. Took forever to have our order taken and brought out, but it was worth the wait. I appreciate a hard worker. Place deserves its 5 stars. Look at my pictures for evidence. Much rather come here than Denny's tbh."

We had banana leaves spread across the table with food (pile for two people sitting across from one another) to share and to eat on your own. This was my first time eating the traditional style with hands. Someone mentioned that it was surprising to have tongs! I would have liked for the food to be more warm but understand that is hard to do when food is laid out buffet style for a large group."
"Good prices for decent food. Nothing above par, nothing below par. $7 for 5 fresh pieces is well-suited to a quick walk and shop."
"Finally made my way in here to order take-out, and yes, the food is as flavorful as the pics look. I spoke to the owner, and he mentioned that they've changed ownership and recommended that we try their chicken shwarma next time. I sure will, as I never hesitate to sample any recommendations from a business owner or chef.Lumpia Shanghai 8pc ($5): these were addicting. The pork was well-seasoned, and the onion and garlic flavors came through, 8/10 rating.Pork belly bao ($5): the pork belly and bun were tender, and the veggies were a nice compliment, 8.5/10.Sisilog (pork belly+egg+garlic rice [$9.99]): the rice was tasty with the right amount of oil, and they've nailed the garlic flavor. The pork was flavorful, but it had tons of fat on half of the portion. Also, it was not saucy as I am used to with sisig, but it is still decent, 7.5/10.The service was a bit slow, as they cooked to order, but it was worth the wait. I will have to dine in next time to enjoy it all freshly made. A couple of girls were destroying their salt & pepper chicken wings, so I will have to get that on the next visit."

"Gabina's sure makes some tasty Filipino eats. Every time I see them, they have their grill fired up with some tasty Filipino meats on a stick being cooked up after their intensive marinade. That being said, that is what I had here, BBQ chicken skewer. The chicken is marinaded in a soy concoction with added seasonings which gives it great flavor. The meat offered that nice char flavor and was tender through out. It also had great color. Well done gents. They also offer ground pork lumpias, turon or banana fritters, veggie egg rolls, chicken adobo, and pancit. They offer all the good eats that Filipino cuisine has to offer and then some..The gents are always super friendly. You can find them at local Farmers' Markets and at the Lane Field Park Food Market on Sundays."
"I'm so glad we found this. My husband and I wanted to celebrate tonight and get really bomb ass food at the same time, but wanted to venture a little ways away from where we normally hang out. We decided to come here and man, did this exceed our expectations. Located inside large plaza, EsKiNiTa is truly a hole-in-the-wall joint serving up some of that authentic Filipino skewers over a grill that you get to cook yourself (it IS part of the experience). Now... don't expect fine dining, expect a welcoming and homey atmosphere. The owner was beyond hospitable, explaining what is the most popular item and even cooking our food for us. The charcoal isn't your basic pillow-shaped, charcoal either. They used mesquite charcoal, so it adds another layer of flavor to your food. I highly recommend the chicken and pork BBQ, chicken intestine, chicken liver, and chicken heart. But honestly, you can't go wrong with any of the choices. The BBQ sauce is a must and if you're like me, make sure to get the vinegar sauce to add a different flavor to your tastebuds. You'll have a great time, be surrounded by good people, and enjoy it all with some really good food. Highly recommend, and just like he said... I'll definitely be back."
"I've come here with family in the past and was surprised my husband has never been so had to take him for breakfast. The service was great and the restaurant was clean. The food was great, definitely comforting and as Filipinos, made me feel like I was at my grandparents house :)"
"IGNORE all the low stars! Filipina foodie here and I'll give you the real breakdown! Like every Filipino Fastfood it will have tons of hiccups.I gave it a 5 star because they stew correctly! Are the flavors perfect, NO. But it was a pleasant surprise that the Kare Kare was extremely tender!!!! So was the beef stew! Unbelievable on the nice fat and tender ratio on top of steam rice! Lechon was perfect! Not burnt or chewy. It was so crispy that even the fat was edible! Sig sig needs more ginger and crunch. Too much vinegar.Empetido was $7, however too vinegary too!Who ever is in charge of the vinegar, we need to tell Mr or Ms Maasim to please slow your roll... do WAY less. This may be why the adobo can be hit or miss!!! And the reputation of this place is not as good as it could be. All because of the Vinegar Obsession. LOL Cook out the vinegar so it's not too maasim. (Sour) or just hide it from the chef! Only put out what's needed, and place those Costco gallon jugs in a secret place.Overall customers will be satisfied to feed the fix! And Cassava cake is TENDER too! Flan-ish! 5 star!Lastly, they are constantly cleaning!!! Very rare in a Filipino restaurant. Usually everyone is so tired from cooking that the entire place is a little... you know... filthy. LOL!!!This place is CLEAN, you can bring a friend here without worrying that roaches will run across the floor!"
"Growing up in San Diego you come across different foods for different cultures. Filipino foods being one of my favorites, there definitely isn't a shortage of Filipino restaurants in town. I have to say Mama V's needs to be recognized as one of the top ones out here. The lumpia by far the freshest and tastiest ones ever, the crunch the bite and the flavors are always spot on, get it as a combo plate with Pancit and rice, you're all set. The customer service was phenomenal and the team that runs the operation keeps it super clean and on point. Catch them on Sundays at the Point Loma Farmers Market, trust me you won't regret it and worth the drive. I hope these guys open a store front soon."
"Ube cheese pan de salUbe cheese pan de salUbe cheese pan de salUnfortunately, saying it 3 times didn't make it magically appear, but I promise that if you get your hands on one, it will magically disappear. They've went up in price, but seriously-what hasn't, but I think they're about $3.75 for 3 or roughly a $1.25 each. Pillowy soft ube delicacies that taste more like creamy Ube bread if anything. Unless you've eaten Filipino cheese rolls, it's not what you're imagining. It's not like a normal cheese roll, it's more like the satisfying taste of a Hawaiian roll. That's the only thing I can compare it too. They never seem to answer their phone, but you might want to call ahead to see if they have them, as they do run out.Maybe get some for New Year's Day if they're open.Enjoy!"

Halo halo for the dessert win! We stopped by to try this signature Filipino ice cream "sundae" and loved it! Made with a base of sweet crushed ice slushy and a scoop of ube ice cream and topped with plantains, sweet potatoes, agar-agar jelly, coconut, and flan, the incredibly refreshing dessert hit the spot. Can't wait to return for more halo halo as well as to try the crispy lechon kawali, sizzling lechon sisig, lumpia, and pancit.

Walked in on a Tuesday morning to an empty restaurant. Literally just us and a server. Totally fine being that we got seated right away and food was made quickly. Let me also say that even though there was no one inside, the food was amazing! - I ordered the Chicken Tocino. EVERYTHING in that bowl was delicious. There were 2 pieces of tomatoes in the bowl. I never eat tomatoes by themselves but I believe they were marinated in something good. The chicken tocino had a good flavor that definitely reminded me of the pork version. Different textures but almost the same taste. Chicken had a good texture as well. Nothing tough at all. I also ordered the calamansi mint drink and it was soooooo refreshing. That's a definite must!- my wife ordered the Longanisa and it was pretty much the same ingredients just...Longanisa lol. The longanisa had a different texture that I'm used to. It was more fried (possibly deep fried) but still delicious. - Kids got a Banana Walnut French Toast. Came with 4 big slices and only came with Carmel sauce on it. No need for the syrup and it was still good. 2 kids (5 & 9) and they didn't finish it all. - The lady who served us was nice, came back to refill our waters and consistently asked us if everything was okay. I would return to try other things for sure.

What a wonderful surprise to find a new Filipino restaurant at Fashion Valley Mall. Well it is more of a cart than a restaurant. I LOVE LUMPIA and the Lumpia Joint did not disappoint. Delicious. We ordered $6.99 for 5 pork rolls. Crispy and golden. Tasty and meaty. The sweet and sour sauce was very sweet and we decided to barely tap it in the sauce. This lumpia is so flavorful you can go without sauce. We will definitely return.

First of all....! I have been by here for years and was today years old trying this place. Don't be like me, come as soon as possible! Had I known how delicious this place was I wouldn't have been sleeping on this place. The longaniza bao bun was everything! Lumpia is really good too!The combination of it all was just perfect. Everything was packaged so neatly. You can tell the staff takes pride in their business. Inside it's super clean and organized. The lady who took my order was so kind as well as the cashier. There is parking in the plaza so no need to stress over finding a spot. I called ahead and would say this is the best way to order. It was ready pretty quickly and I would highly recommend this spot to anyone.

I've tried a few things here and I'm only a fan of the veggie lumpia, it looks more like a egg roll because how big it is but it's so good with the vinegar they provide. They are usually sold out tho, I'd say 4/10 times they were sold out of the veggie lumpia, I guess a lot of people like that one.

Gabina's was a vendor at the 2021 TASTE OF THE PHILIPPINES in San Diego. The line was the longest at the event. I ended up waiting about 50 minutes for a BBQ chicken plate and a side of BBQ pork. Overall, food was good. Pros:-accepts cash and cardCons:-they advertise that their plates come with rice and pancit, but they only gave rice. I would understand if they told customers this when they order, but they did not mention this at all. I would have ordered something different had I known.

First time here and it was delicious!! Different kind of dining experience for me. Awesome service too definitely recommend

"Lumpia with a twist. There is some crazy creative things going on here at Lia's Lumpia. I talked with co-owner and chef, Spencer. He is part Filipino and Black. Spencer wanted Filipino food to be recognized for more than just pancit and lumpia. Taking a traditional Filipino staple he added different fillings other than the regular ground pork you'd find at every Filipino party. He and his mom have perfected the frying and wrapping of their lumpia wrappers so no matter what you get, it is crisp and not greasy. What gets stuffed into those wrappers borders on ingenious to WTH how did you come up with that? Take for instance his signature Mac N Cheese lumpia. Yeah I said "huh" also. He explained it was his marriage of Filipino and Soul Food. It must be good because it sells out and I was unfortunate not to try any on this visit. He has literally several dozen different takes that he rotates. I did get to try the following:-traditional-nice savory filling-pork belly- my favorite -SPAM musubi-the rice comes out a little crispy so it loses a bit of the sense of a musubi but the flavors are goodToo note, I had to take out which meant about 30 minutes to finally sit down to eat after pick up. The wrappers were still crisp which was pretty nice. This place is totally chill to hang out as well. It's got a sense of home with a lot of family pictures, comfy couches, a dining table, and even an arcade game. The music playing was old school like ZAPP which was my groove lol. I think the best way to enjoy Lia's Lumpia would be with family and friends who are looking for an easy night. Put in an order, I suggest not all at once because these things are hefty, along with some beers, chat the night away and order more as you go along. See if you can talk with Spencer and his mom as well! It will definitely make you feel like you're visiting family not just dining at a restaurant."
"I love this place! They are so accommodating and nice. I ordered several dishes for a family gathering and these folks did not disappoint! They even let me make a last minute change to my order. I ordered chicken adobo, pancit, menudo, and rice. Everything was delicious! My favorite was the menudo and the pancit. Everything was flavorful without being too salty or greasy. I'll definitely come back here whenever I need to cater a party!"
"Price point and portions are great here. Three item combo with pancit, sisig, and adobo ran me about $16. Nothing too fancy about this place as it is a simple sit down restaurant or take out. The food itself was good Filipino eating."
"This store deserves more love for their lechon kawali. It's not good. It's fucking-worth-the-drive great and is the best in San Diego, if not the entire state! I grew up eating the best bagnet from Laoag so you can say that my standards are pretty high."
"I'm a little disappointed I didn't know of this place earlier. I've seen locations like this in LA, but it's nice to know we have one local.Process is quick and easy. Choose what you want from a bar, buy it, get your sauces like garlic vinegar then go reheat it on charcoal grills to eat. It's easy to get too many.Even though there's sooo many options, it's easy to try them all by just getting one stick each. There's some safe, common ones like chicken bbq, pork bbq, fish ball, lobster ball. Then you can explore more common Filipino street food options like bulaklak (ruffled pork fat), pork intestine, beef intestine, chicken feet, pig ears etc. Don't get carried away at the grill, you can see by my photos I may have burned a few. I enjoyed all of it. It's been over 18 years since I really got food like this in the Philippines, but I think this is what it tasted like."
"Great lumpia and very friendly service. Highly recommended for get-togethers and office parties.- The one issue will be parking. You might have to park a block away.- Cash only- Orders over 50 lumpia need to be placed in advance."
"Training's is a hole in the wall Mira Mesa Filipino family favorite. Today was my first time here. I ordered the Chicken Adobo plate. Love that soy sauce and vinegar aroma and taste!"
"It's a love hate relationship I have with Las Isla Filipinas but I still keep coming back! I've been coming here a few years now and it's sooooooo painful placing a phone order and waiting for the food! But the food is good! Isn't that a crap shoot?!? They're always hosting birthday parties here. There has never been a time I've been here that there wasn't at least three birthdays being celebrated with karaoke! Which makes it extremely loud inside. So if you come here, be prepared to wait. We haven't actually dined in here since we found this place during the pandemic. But we've been here plenty of times. The fastest way is to phone in your order and then burn time getting there and it may be ready by the time you get there. There have been times I've told them, their phone isn't working. So when that happens you have no choice but to go there and place your order... and wait. Pluses and minuses of both. Phone in order - faster, but 50/50 chance of your call going through. If it does, it's so loud inside, you wonder if they can hear your order and now your shouting on the phone too! If you place a small order than you may not need to pay over the phone. We always order a ton of food so it's upwards of $100. Which require you to pay beforehand. So now you're trying to give them your credit card number and they can barely hear you and shouting it back to you over the phone. The worst if you didn't want the whole world shopping on your credit card. Then comes the waiting. It's always a min of 30 mins before your food is ready. We've waiting over an hour when it's busy. Sucks, but it's worth it. I was so in love with this place at first. On our very first visit I order the lumpia of course, but is not great. I was so sad. But then I discovered their sisig. I don't like anyones sisig and I love theirs! It's crisp and clean tasting and they make it to your spiciness level. They have cut down the portion since Covid, and we always end up ordering two orders so we can get our fill. The chicken adobo is good, but tons of bones. I like the pork adobo better. The garlic fried rice is a favorite staple of mine. It's simple, and so good. We've tried both the Pancit Bihon (rice noodles) and Pancit Canton (egg noodles). I usually like the rice noodles better, but it was just meh. The Canton with egg noodles was better. Bums outside, so while your waiting keep the car doors locked! No issues parking. Staff can be hit or miss. When they just can't hear you, they hang up. Not good. You would think they want regular customers to keep coming back. Good luck and enjoy! 2024: 20"
"The fams and I ate here on an early Sunday evening. They'd tried to come on 3 different occasions but kept missing them (I think the owner said they've been short staffed). Well, I guess it just took a little visit with ME to make our first dining experience here happen, lol! Jk jk!!Let me just say that I KNOW Filipino food, as I'm 100% and I know if it's good or not. Putting all biases aside, Sandok is IT!!! Everything we ordered was fresh, and the Lechon Kawali was perfection! It looked dry, but it was all that and more, especially when dipped in the sauce it comes with. The Beef Pares was so damn tender. You could probably get away without even chewing it (but don'ttey it, lol). The sauce is so goooood! Both of the Adobo Flakes (Pork & Chicken) were just as tender, and the egg on top sealed the deal for me. Pair them with a little sinigang broth -- or was it nilaga broth?! I can't remember! -- (ask for it as a side if they have it), and you'll want nothing more. The exception would no doubt be the staples, the stars of the show, the classic dishes of Lumpia, and their Special Pancit! I'll just let the pancit video do the talking. We got a half order, but it was more than enough to feed all 3 of us! Don't forget the citrus (lemon, lime, or the best of the best, calamansi)! The owners are so kind, and you can tell they REALLY put their heart into what they do. They checked in with us often and even chatted a bit about their business. I am going to return for sure. I can say with honesty that this is a true diamond in the rough. I think they could be in a better spot, but hopefully, that won't deter people from coming here. There's a small parking lot outside, and the prices are average. The food is outstanding, and it gets my seal of approval. Overall, I think they will stick around for a while because people can always tell if you're being genuine or not. Sandok is here to stay! Please go and support this local small business!"
"Pancit! And friendly staff Lenn. I order my catering Filipino dishes here, All. The. Time. It's a hole in a wall place in National city but my friends, clients and family always suggest this place when they crave for pancit and other Filipino food. Ambiance is ok, it can get really hot during the summer. They also have some Filipino goodies/snacks for sale that reminded me of a sari sari store. Please come and support a small business that are thriving. I recommend this place."
"This has been in my drafts and finally posting after many years. I came here with my friends and we did the Kamayan. Service was good, the workers were friendly. I remember not liking that we were squished in a small area. It was hot and hard to enjoy our meal."
"Really good sisig and chicken afritada. I gobbled it up. They also had really great benignit (not sure what's it called in Tagalog).Get some banana Turon to go! Soooo good comfort foods"
"We were in National City today for an event and decided to pick up a large order of CHICKEN PANCIT (4/5 $10) at Lisa's for supper. When I arrived home, I decided to weigh the pancit because the container was heavy. Net, the pancit weighed 32.1 pounds (896 g).There were few people here mid-afternoon, and I was served quickly."
"I was blessed to celebrate my birthday weekend last week where I celebrated with my extended family on Saturday, with my Best Friends on Sunday, and with my immediate family on Monday. That Monday, I redeemed my free birthday breakfast at Dennys, met up with my wifey for a couples massage, and ended my evening by eating dinner at Kusina ni Tovi. Being able to chow down at a Filipino restaurant that's near our home was the proverbial icing on my birthday cake.If you're familiar with where Hoorah Breakfast Cafe and Bar is located in Rancho Bernardo, then you'll easily find Kusina ni Tovi because this restaurant can be found in the same spot. It is situated in the same strip mall as Perfect Pizza, RB Sushi, Pho Hoang Express, and it's across from McDonald's. Not sure what's the relationship between the owners of Kusina ni Tovi and Hoorah, but they are run by different people. While Hoorah operates from 7am to 3pm, Kusina's hours are Sun-Thurs 4:30pm to 8pm and Friday-Sat 4:30pm to 9pm. Take advantage of their Happy Hour specials from 4:30pm to 6pm. Open mic and karaoke night occurs on Friday and Saturday from 6pm to 9pm. The dining space is the same as Hoorah's with plenty of seating, distressed laminate flooring, and a brick facade wall. You order from the register and you'll be provided with a number if you're dining in. The young man behind the counter displayed quality customer service and the family who runs Kusina were friendly and kind. There aren't any closeby Filipino food options in the Rancho Bernardo area. For me to get my Filipino food fix on, I either have to drive to Poway, Rancho Peñasquitos, or the North County Filipino food mecca of Mira Mesa. When I found out that Kusina ni Tovi was a Filipino restaurant, I was like a kid in a candy store because Filipino grub is one of my last meal requests when God calls me home. My Filipino family aren't as enamored as me when it comes to Filipino food, but since it was my birthday, I got to choose where we were having dinner. I had to order one of my fave dishes, which was sizzling sisig; we ordered lumpia; ordered chicken bbq skewers; full size of pancit bihon; and you can't eat Filipino without a full size of garlic rice and a side of white rice. The sisig is served on a hot sizzling skillet with minced pork, chicken liver, chopped onion, and fried egg. Combine this mixture of meat yumminess with rice and this birthday boy was one happy dude. Lumpia aka fried spring rolls were too small for my liking, but everyone likes lumpia. The chicken skewers were the stars of our meal because they were cooked perfectly, marinated, hearty, and we devoured these. The pancit bihon is rice noodles with sautéed vegetables, chicken, and shrimp. This was beautifully presented and they aren't stingy with the noodles, chicken, and shrimp. I thoroughly enjoyed all of the dishes we ate at Kusina.I'm thankful to God for allowing me to celebrate another birthday and I'm thankful to the owners of Kusina ni Tovi for opening a Filipino restaurant nearby, so that my Filipino food cravings can be satisfied quickly. I would order everything again, but I definitely want to try their other dishes and their Halo Halo, which is a refreshing and sweet Filipino dessert."
"I love coming here after a night shift. The food is absolutely delicious!!! Its the best Filipino food in Spring Valley. Food is always fresh and ready to go!! I appreciate they're open so early. I love coming here, definitely a must try"
"Love this place and it speaks to my Filipino soul!White Rice Bodega is located in North Park and is a tiny spot that serves up tasty and generous portions of Filipino favorites. We only found them because of the word "Salamat" that's painted on the building. Genius! The gent that helped us out felt like family immediately and we were so glad we stopped by therefor lunch. The menu is simple and done well. What we had: Pork Sisig: rice, fried egg, crispy bits of pork, red onion garlic and peppers: this was my hubby's favorite and he scarfed every bit down. Soy Braised Pork: chicken adobo that was garnished with a hard boiled egg, green onions and served with garlic rice. This was my favorite and I was able to finish about half of it; it warmed up well the next day. So umami!Ube Pandesal: we've gone to their location at Liberty Station and had tried this before so of course we had to get a bag to go. That Ube Butter tho!Calamansi Iced Tea tasted like home :)When we left, the guy who I'm thinking may be the owner said goodbye and made us feel so extremely welcome. They are about a 30 plus minute drive from where we live but we will definitely return just for his friendly service. SALAMAT!"
"This is a great place to get Hopia with many options! I love the mongo and Baboy. They have specials SUCs as the one I got but 15 GET 1 free $16.86 (this has tax included). They also have taron, cashews, peanuts and some other things. The inside has a couple of small tables you can sit at. The parking lot is very busy due to sharing with Carnival Supermarket and the other little shops so you have to be patient especially on the weekends. This is a MUST TRY!"
"The negative reviews for this place are totally not justified. They have fantastic pork rice bowls, from their pork adobo to the lechon. No matter what dish, the pork is juicy and fatty, and delicious when mixed into accompanying sauces, rice and egg. This is easily one of the best restaurants in this morena area, so do not sleep on this if you like Filipino food. If you like drippingly fatty pork meat, get the sisilog or lechon. If you like less fat, get the adobo! I think there were some issues on the soft opening mentioned in other reviews (lumpia issues? Wait times?) that have since resolved. We've had no issues with service, speed and accuracy of our orders in the four or five times we've stopped by for lunch. Please give them a try!"
"Filipino fast food. Kind of like a Panda Express approach. Choose 1 or 2 entrees and a side. Seems to be very popular with a long line at lunch. But the line moves quickly. Not much indoor seating. Huge outdoor seating area.Popular items seem to be the sliced BBQ chicken, BBQ pork, Curry Chicken, and Garlic Fried Rice.I got the BBQ chicken which was great. The sausage which reminded me of an Asian sweet sausage. But this sausage was thick and soft with no snap to the bite. It had a great taste but I was slightly weirded out by it for some reason. The noodles were super thin angel hair and reminded me of Singapore Noodles.Next time I'll try the BBQ Pork, Curry Chicken, and Garlic Fried Rice."
"Because of the 3 star rating I was worried about our dining experience. We were seated right away when we entered and shortly thereafter we ordered our entrees. I quickly put a timer on to see how long it would take. There were approximately 5 other tables that were occupied. It was a good atmosphere.Long and behold it only took 8 min for the food to arrive. The food was delicious and my son and I quick devoured our food. I was so happy that what I read in the comment section didn't come true. I hope things will get better with their rating because that's how I go to these restaurants."
