With the closure of the local to me location up in Poway, I guess my waistline is saved, but oh my heart! I'm devoted though, so I'll still order whenever I'm down South and bring their products home to enjoy. If they even make it out of the car I'll be surprised! Home Bakers, this is a shop you can really enjoy if you're too busy to create in your own kitchen. The whole family is a fan. Pardon the word, but these are moist (sorry) flavorful and fresh everytime. Their frosting is quality and they can decorate a cake like nobody's business! We'll be getting my daughter's cake from them this year because I recently saw a Frozen design on their instagram that was like none other I'd seen around (and would not attempt myself.)"

"This locally owned dessert shop is situated in a small ground floor suite of the 101 Park Plaza building in East Village across from Petco Park. Their signage is not very visible which made the business difficult to find. It's owned and operated by an African American woman and her son. Others have already mentioned the challenging parking situation in the area. I found an open metered spot several blocks away and walked over.Because the timing of my visit was after a baseball game had concluded, their inventory was not as well-stocked as earlier in the day. Cupcakes, cookies, peach cobbler, Rice Krispy Treats, and cake jars were on display. I didn't see any strawberry shortcake, cheesecakes, or brownies because maybe those had sold out? The cupcakes were $3 each so I purchased four different varieties... lemon, cinnamon, vanilla, and strawberry. I also bought a peach cobbler which cost $8.Each cupcake was placed in its own plastic container which I thought was neat although some would say it's wasteful and not conservation-minded. They were on the smallish side for the price, however the markup wasn't as high as I have seen at other bakeries. The cake itself was moist while the frosting was light and spiraled beautifully on top. As for the cobbler, the amount of peaches was reasonable while the pastry crust was decent."

The Bundtlets are what they call personal-sized cakes, just as tasty and scrumptious as their bigger cousins. And the Bundtinis are on the cupcake end of the scale. It's a beautiful little shop in a large shopping square. Easy access and parking which is rare in this area. Inside, everything is displayed and arraigned with excellent attention to detail. Along with the cakes, they also sell candles and balloons, so make it an event. The mascarpone was lightly sweet and fluffy, cookie/tart cake was the perfect texture, and we loved all the little details! "Disclaimer: I am not Paleo, am not on any special diets, and I have no dietary restrictions. I recently met the sweet owner of PPB at a Yelp event and firmly decided on supporting their small business for an upcoming birthday. I asked Rose what the most popular cakes are, and decided on one of the most popular, the Luscious Lemon.The cakes come in several sizes feeding 2-4, 6-8, etc. I really wanted something for 4-6 people but after speaking with Rose, it seemed the 6-8 person option was what I was looking for. Rose described the cake for 2-4 as being smaller than a Costco muffin and slight larger than a cupcake. Hence why I decided on the 6-8.Pickup was a breeze. I waited in the pickup lot for just a couple minutes before Rose happily delivered my cake. The presentation was nice. I really liked the packaging as it showed all the ingredients for the cake and the frosting. There was even a QR code that would link you to tips on serving/storing the cake. Nice touch. As instructed, I left the cake out of the fridge for about 2 hours and it was time to dig in.The cake reminded us of a very lightly sweetened cornbread. The frosting was "buttery", but in a unique way. As the frosting hit my lips it instantly coated them like butter. The cake smelled "lemony" when cutting into it, however I didn't get that same lemon flavor when eating it. And even though I'm not a fan of super sweet frosting, I desperately wanted more sugar in this frosting. I envisioned a PPB Paleo cake as one made with whole and possibly organic ingredients, having less sugar, or honey, and one that uses almond or coconut flour instead of unbleached white flour. While that may be mostly correct, I think I SEVERELY underestimated the whole "less sugar" part. That was my bad.Here's a rule of thumb that might help. Paleo and organic ingredients are simply more expensive than your typical cake ingredients. Expect your Paleo cake to be several times smaller to reflect that. The cake for 6-8, $50, was smaller than I anticipated.Working with Rose's PPB was super easy and extremely professional. I really loved the packaging and presentation of the cake."
