Jennica S. "Five stars all around for You & Yours. I have been twice -- once a few days after Christmas last year (and the decorations and holiday drinks were so cute), as well as during the spring for a "Boozy Brunch Bingo" event, which was so much fun! I actually won a free tasting and tour for 4, so I definitely will be back before the end of the year. The place itself is so aesthetically pleasing, the drinks are delicious (they have a specialty in gin), the food is always a hit, and the workers are all so lovely. This is the perfect place to grab some drinks and a quick bite to just enjoy company. It is not the biggest establishment, I must say. There are quite a few events that they hold, so I would suggest to follow them on Instagram."

Emmett T. "Jaguar Paw is another new listening bar that has popped up in the SD area. It's located in the heart of Barrio Logan across the street from where a renown taqueria recently closed. The inside of the suite had ten two-top tables and six stools at the bar for seating. A disco ball hung from the ceiling while the interior decor had beige and salmon as primary colors. Two sets of customers were at the bar when I arrived so I took a spot at one of the tables. Soft instrumental music was being played from the speakers. The menu at the time was comprised of eight cocktails, four beers, and four wines for drinks. Three types of food were available... Fish Dip, Sardine Crudo, and Oysters. I picked the Fish Dip and the Oysters to go with a Gimlet mocktail. Lemongrass, basil, and soda water were the main ingredients in the sparkly non-alcoholic drink. The Fish Dip came first and featured smoked skipper mixed with creme fraiche, tomato, habanero, house pickles, and lemonette. A set of crackers was provided on the side of the serving tin to scoop up the dip which had a nice blend of savory and tartness. The medium sized raw oysters were served as a trio topped with salsa kyoto, sunumono, and togarashi. The taste was fine, I just wish there were more pieces for $12. I don't know how often items on the menu are rotated, but a few more food choices would be ideal. The bartender came over to serve my table in between his customers at the bar. He was very efficient and polite. The ambiance was very low-key which made Jaguar Paw a nice spot to unwind and relax."

That's all good and well but the bang for my proverbial buck comes by way of their SECOND menu to the right of the main bar, where they have a separate menu of about 20 beers, all of which are Belgians.Just leave me here, this is my home now.Good good, great service, friendly and clean atmosphere and, of course, one of the best Belgian beer menus your eyes will ever be blessed with."

Le Coq

Le Coq

★★★★☆ 3.8 (58)

Emmett T. "The Rooster is supposedly the last full-service restaurant that local celebrity Chef Malarkey and his business partner will be opening. It's ironic that one of his earlier eateries in downtown La Jolla is the same venue that has been converted to Le Coq. As noted by others, there was minimal signage on the outside of the building. You could see the faded words 'Herringbone' on the north side of the structure, but nothing else indicated this was now the home of Le Coq. A half dozen odd-looking concrete seats in the shape of an open hand adorned the front sidewalk. Where were the rooster statues? My initial impression of the interior was that it felt understated and mundane compared to its predecessor. I found the lack of flair to the interior and exterior decor to be disappointing. For a last hurrah, I expected more pizzazz to note the presence of this new high-end French steakhouse. We were seated at a two-top table in the middle of the dining room after checking in with the hostess. The ambiance felt dark and cavernous instead of what I hoped would be a cozy, intimate setting. On to the food... the two page menu was designed by Executive Chef Monsod. A six-dollar baguette with a choice of five different butters was at the top of the left page. Cold and hot hors d'oeuvres made up the rest of this part of the menu. Entrées, steaks, and sides were listed on the right page. My francophile dining partner and I decided to split a baguette with Pamplie butter which was a rich, artisanal version flown in from France. The bread was warm and pillowy soft. You could tell it was freshly baked. It turned out to be my favorite part of the meal.We also split one of the hot appetizers in the Onion Tart. A round savory pastry contained short rib, caramelized onion, and gruyère cheese as the filling. The crust was a bit dry and overcooked. My friend's entrée choice was the Roast Chicken which featured half of a cooked bird resting on a glacé with a lemon to squeeze on top. The preparation looked fairly plain for a price of nearly $50. The meat was tender though.I selected the Duck Breast for my main course which was served as two pieces of meat with tamarind purée drizzed on top, Some kumquat slices were added along with a piece of chicory. This last component was roasted endive leaves that were soaked with the puree to mask any bitterness. I would have preferred a different vegetable to pair with the duck, perhaps a squash or other root vegetable. For $65, a third slice of meat should not be out of the question. The service from the waitstaff was solid. One staffer went around the tables to ensure our water glasses were filled. Some of the prices were inflated though compared to similar caliber French restaurants in town. The premium may have been for the reputation of the chefs. Overall, I couldn't quite elevate my rating of Le Coq to a four star level as there were areas of our dining experience that fell short."

Jack M. "These guys make a great burger! I had the double cheeseburger for $12.50, which came with two juicy American Wagyu smashed patties, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, cheese pickles, a secret sauce, on a toasted soft butter glistened potato bun. I asked Sarah to see if they could possibly temp the beef at about medium, and even though it was a smash burger, they were very close and medium well. Either way, the American Wagyu patties were delicious and left that quality beef flavor that lingers on the palate. I liked that the patties had a good crispy exterior but remain juicy and tender on the inside, not to mention very flavorful. The burger's ingredients were all fresh and quite good. I went light on the sauce to better experience the flavors of the beef, and it worked. The house sauce was very good, too. I really liked the toasted potato bun. It worked really well on this burger. As I was eating the burger, I realized that beef patty was smaller than what I am used to, but the quality was outstanding, and I was okay with that.Oh yes! I also had an order of onion rings, and they were just grand. They were crispy, well seasoned, and actually had whole succulent onion rings inside. They were great for dipping in the house secret sauce. The service was provided by "sarah," who was very friendly and helpful. Great service! I can't wait to try some of their other offerings."

The bartenders were cool dudes, had good conversations while we waited for our booth. The grill is near the middle of the dining area, everyone finds a spot and add their items to cook. I ordered the Filet with a salad and potato. The steaks come with garlic bread, I slapped that on the grill too. There are several seasonings and sauces for flavor. My steak was really good, with garlic salt, pepper, all seasoning and a slab of butter. The waitstaff was cool and helpful. Good times"

I had the miss modulater, which is kind of like an expresso martini with rum. Most drinks here are rum based and I would suggest checking out the menu before you arrive because there are a lot of drinks to choose from, and you only have 90 minutes for your reservation and it goes by fast. The music was lounge tiki and the bathrooms were a kick.I would go again if I had a friend who really wanted to go. Emmett T. "While in Imperial Beach for another event recently, I made a stop at Santo Placer for a meal before heading back north. I don't know what the previous establishment was, but the standalone building had a large on-site parking lot which is always beneficial. The inside decor was beautiful, highlighted by a faux tree with white flowers in the middle of the dining room. The ambiance was pretty fancy for Mexican cuisine.Brunch was being served during my weekend visit so only half of the menu was available. A Culichi Omelet was what I chose for an entree. The filling was shrimp and mozzarella cheese topped with culichi sauce made up of roasted poblano peppers, jalapeno, and garlic. A green salad and a scoop of Mexican rice came as sides to the dish. The shrimp were concentrated on one side of the omelet with four pieces total. The creamy sauce was the star of the show. Tortillas were also provided but for unknown reasons, the corn variety was complimentary while there was a surcharge if I wanted flour-based wraps. The biggest issue I encountered was the preparation time. The kitchen took at least 20 minutes before the item was brought to my table even though the place was less than half full. The prices were on the high side, however that reflected the more upscale nature of the restaurant. My waitress was very polite and helpful in answering the questions I had about the menu offerings. I gave a 3.5 star rating for my dining experience at Santo Placer."

Aaron S. "This is an updated review from another amazing visit here. Last weekend, we decided to go for a crab bake at Crab Hut and ended up sampling two of their enticing dishes. The restaurant was a well-organized space adorned with a charming oceanic theme. We ended up sitting outside in the sun and it was amazing, although the interior was equally inviting. Parking was a breeze, especially if you opt for the southern end of the lot rather than vying for a spot directly in front of the establishment. Our dining experience kicked off with stellar customer service. It's worth noting that a gratuity of 18% is automatically included in the bill--an arrangement we found reasonable given the exceptional service we received. In fact, our waitress went above and beyond, promptly seating us with a warm smile and attending to our needs with remarkable attentiveness. Despite the tip being pre-added, we felt inclined to add more as a token of appreciation for the outstanding service.Turning to the food, we started with a serving of calamari and fries. While the portion sizes justified the price, we found the calamari lacking in flavor and seemed overcooked. However, the fries salvaged the appetizer, boasting a satisfying crunch and delightful seasoning. For our main courses, we opted for the Spicy Cajun Pasta and the Spicy Jambalaya. Both dishes were executed flawlessly, with the pasta perfectly cooked and infused with just the right amount of spice to complement the succulent shrimp. The Jambalaya, teeming with an abundance of seafood and meat, surprised us with its robust flavor profile. Though I would have preferred a bit more heat, the dish still left a lasting impression. In conclusion, our dining escapade at Crab Hut left us with a generally positive impression. While the appetizer fell short of expectations, the exceptional service and well-prepared entrees more than made up for it. We look forward to revisiting Crab Hut in the future for another taste of their enticing seafood offerings."

Online reservations can be made using the Toast system. QR codes to access the menu were affixed to the tables and countertops. The offerings consisted of three appetizers, six entrees, six cocktails, three mocktails, beer, and wine. I sat at a countertop space on the south edge with Adams Ave below. The following were my selections...* Chicken Delight Skewers - grilled chicken and bell pepper and onion medley skewers with a side of herb aioli* Achiote Ember Pork - citrus marinated pork chop with achiote and chipotle accompanied by polenta, grilled carrots, and baby tomatoes* Dawn Dew (Misty Bloom) - blend of botanicals featuring floral non-alcoholic gin with lemon, lavender, and tonic fizzThere were three skewers in an order. The chicken cubes were portioned a little smaller than I have experienced elsewhere. The meat and vegetables were charred nicely by the kitchen. The bone-in pork chop rested on a bed of polenta. The pork was overcooked a tad as can happen easily with white meat on a grill. The mocktail was plain looking and didn't have any garnishments added. While improvements can be made on the execution of the dishes, the rooftop venue itself was very chill for a neighborhood hangout. THE TACOS!The regular (non-mini) tacos themselves are quite pricey, (~$6 each depending on the protein you choose), however, it is so worth it. They are pretty hefty and the amount of protein makes up for it. I am a sucker for a fresh, hand-pressed tortilla, and these do not disappoint.
