Emmett T. "The former Bowl Bar suite in the Adams Plaza of Normal Heights is now a new chicken shop called Young Cluck which debuted this week. The seating was limited to three two-top tables both inside and outside along with four stools at a countertop. The on-site parking was terrible with maybe ten spaces split between the five plaza businesses. Instead of the traditional choices of tenders and sandwiches, the kitchen produced a fusion of different cuisines. For example, there was the Southern classic of chicken & waffles, yet also a chicken banh mi sandwich. The current menu had four breakfast selections served between 7 am and 2 pm along with four lunch/dinner items available from 11 am to close. Dark Horse coffee, chips, and drinks rounded out the board. Eventually, a weekly special will also be offered. I picked the Popcorn Fried Chicken Bowl which contained pieces of battered and fried chicken served over sesame garlic fried rice. Yuzu shoyu sauce, pickled radish, and chiffonade shizo were the other toppings. You certainly won't find such a combination of ingredients in a chicken bowl from a non-Asian eatery. The pickled radish did wonders to provide acidity to cut through the batter on the chicken. The serving size could have been a little more to make the $14 price tag a better value. It will be interesting to see how the menu changes over time as these initial offerings were quite an eclectic bunch."

Kyle F. "The experience wasn't bad, and it usually isn't with Chick Fil A. However, this location is TERRIBLE. Chick Fil A always brings a lot of traffic to their locations. This parking lot is pitifully small and the drive thru backs up quickly. This leads to the drive thru line winding through the lot and to the street. The worst part is when the drive thru doesn't move, there isn't enough room for people to back out of parking spaces and leave. If you have to come here, I highly recommend waiting in the drive thru line. You'll have a really hard time exiting any of the parking spaces in the parking lot."

I had previously introduced Korean Fried Chicken to them (this location was previously Padadak). Both boyfriend and daughter were craving Korean Fried Chicken, so we landed at Crispy Chicken n' Tomato on Clairemont Mesa Blvd (San Diego); recently opened in September 2023. According to their website, Crispy Chicken n' Tomato is "the No. 1 Korean Fried Chicken" in Japan. We ordered the following:- 24 piece chicken wings - tried their Honey Soy and their Classic Mild flavors. Even the kids meal boneless strips with fries is good enough for 2 kids! Portions are big enough to share! The kimchi is spicy and delicious and the snow cheese fries is a must try! I think snow cheese fries are now my favorite! The sauces for chicken are on the side.. which makes sense to keep the chicken fr getting soggy! Waited 10 to 15 mins ... the dine in is clean. For beverages... option for soju and beer or fountain drinks! Peter is the owner and he is super friendly with a sense of humor! He even offered and insisted to bring the food out to my car! There's no parking lot, which isn't surprising considering they're located in downtown. The food is average at best - I'd much prefer Panda Express, but maybe that says something about my palate. Emmett T. "Jose's Pollos Estilo Acapulco has now taken over this corner shack in the Golden Hill neighborhood which has seen several businesses rotate through over the past few years. Yellow paint was added to brighten the premises. The inside only had seating for ten customers. There were some stools under the awnings on the sides of the building if you wanted to dine al fresco. A bonus was that the property had a dedicated parking lot to the south of the structure. Barbeque smokers were placed there to cook the meats. The first time I visited was a failure because they had sold out of their inventory for the day. We returned for lunch less than a week later near the opening time, and it got busy quickly. The menu was simple with a 1/2 chicken plate or 1/2 pork rib plate that could feed 1-2 people for $15. The other options were a whole chicken, an entire rack of pork ribs, and a split of 1/2 chicken and 1/2 ribs. These choices could feed 3-4 people for $25 or $26. Pinto beans, Mexican rice, grilled white onions, tortillas, and two kinds of salsa came with the order. We chose the split and sat at one of the two-top tables inside. The chicken, ribs, and grilled onions came inside a styrofoam takeout container about 10 minutes later. The tortillas were wrapped in tin foil while the beans and rice were in separate foam cups. I don't know if there was sufficient quantity to feed a group of four as the two of us managed to finish everything. The meats were coated with barbeque sauce which we selected over the natural flavoring or the Acapulco style marinade.I thought the products were overcooked, especially the ribs. Some chicken pieces were better than others. The smokiness on the skin was nice. The green salsa was definitely too hot as the chili peppers produced a latent heat that hit the back of the palate. The beans, rice, and tortillas were ordinary. The price was fair for the amount of food, however my rating of our experience at Jose's Pollos Estilo Acapulco was 3.5 stars."

Emmett T. "I had driven by Adalynes Chicken Shack & Fish Market recently before their grand opening. The building looked nice, but I noticed the number of on-site parking spaces was limited. When you walk in, there was a dining room to the left with flat screens on a wall with sports programming being shown. The area was large and clean as I saw a worker wiping down dirty tables and clearing the trash. The service counter was to the right where the raw food items were on refrigerated display. This section was rather tight with not much space to look up at the menu screens because some chairs were lined up next to the windows. The left menu screen displayed the combo meals. Chicken/fish/shrimp + 1 side were priced between $12.99 and $14.99. The middle screen had the chicken, fish & chips, and shrimp & chips listed as a la carte items. The right menu screen showed the appetizers, beverages, and sides. The appetizers were calamari, oysters, gizzards, and frog legs which you could get as fried products.I ordered the two piece fish, four shrimps + 1 side combo. Red snapper was my fish choice while I selected the sweet potatoes for my side. The latter was in the form of small tater tots which I thought was unique for sweet potatoes. The breading on the food was not too thick, however all the items were soggy by the time I opened up the bag and removed them to eat.All the fried fare is made to order. That was one positive attribute. The not so good was the amount of food for the price (i.e. mediocre value). Another area of needed improvement is how the items were packed for to-go orders. The way the food was wrapped and bagged caused moisture to be retained which quickly destroyed whatever crispiness that the deep fry had created. The owners should go to other mom and pop shops in the area that serve fried chicken, fish, and shrimp to observe how they place the finished products in a styrofoam container with holes punched on the lid to allow the steam to escape. Such a technique allows for the crispiness to last longer, especially if a customer has a long drive home."

Emmett T. "The previous hot chicken shop that occupied this East Village corner suite was one of my favorites in town. They set a pretty high bar so it caught my attention when I heard a new business was going to continue this style of food. This is Wicked Chicken's third location, but the first in San Diego. There was a U-shaped central bar with eight stools where you could sit and watch the sporting events on the screens. A selection of at least a dozen craft beers was available on tap. Several small tables were scattered in the main area as well as in a separate room for inside seating. At my visit last month, one of the co-owners was on duty. He warmly greeted me and showed a genuine interest in talking about the menu. Chicken wings, tenders, sandwiches, chicken & waffles, salads, snacks, and sides were the savory offerings. Fourteen different sauces were available, however the heat level was not indicated on the menu screen on the wall. You had to refer to a card next to the register to determine how spicy each sauce was. I decided to do savory and sweet by ordering the Wicked Chicken & Waffles. Two tenders were served on top of a waffle with any sauce choice. Honey BBQ was my selection to keep with the savory/sweet theme. The size of the tenders was large while the crust was decent although I have tasted crispier versions. The chicken meat retained good moisture so my batch did not have the same problem as a few other reviewers had experienced.I read from the other two stores that there was a Wicked Challenge in which customers were dared to eat ten of the spiciest wings. If the challenge was successfully completed, then an exclusive coin was the reward that could be used for future discounts."

This happens to be the #1 KFC business in Japan with the shop in La Jolla Village Square being the first one to debut recently. The inside capacity was close to 60 with several tables on the sidewalk out front for additional seating. Whole chicken, wings, and boneless pieces were available in different portions with nine different sauces and three kinds of seasonings to flavor the chicken. On my first visit last week, I picked a half (8 pcs) chicken with sauce. Honey Soy was my choice. A cup of tomato salsa (similar to pico de gallo) and a cup of sweet pickled radish n' jalapeno came with the order. When I brought a friend for a return visit, we split two small (8 pcs) orders of wings with Black Aglio and Chicken the Yori as the sauces. We also purchased one of the four Lunch Specials which was the Chicken Plate. The set had four boneless pieces, four wings, corn slaw, and veggie fried rice. Classic Mild was our sauce choice for the chicken. The crust on the chicken was fairly crunchy while the size of the wings was average. Below was a description of each sauce type. What I did like was how none of them was overly salty. My favorite was the Chicken the Yori.* Honey Soy - special soy sauce, slightly spicy yet sweet* Black Aglio - special soy sauce inspired with garlic* Chicken the Yori - special soy sauce marinated with garlic, chili, and a hint of spice* Classic Mild - mild spicy with a hint of sweetnessThe Lunch Special was available from 11 am to 3 pm every day. While the selection of sauces was limited to one of three, the price for the amount of food was the best value. Six appetizers and seven sides provided more variety if you wanted something besides chicken. Orders took about 15 minutes to prepare as the kitchen made them fresh. Between the two experiences, I gave a four star rating for the food at Crispy Chicken n' Tomato."

The last 3 times I went most the tables were dirty & the floors too, we saw people wiping tables down before they sat down & we had to too all 3 times & we had to kick trash from under our table, not cool. And their trash can was over flowing to the point people just left the trash on the tables because they had no where to put it. A couple times we went the tea & condiments were empty so they had someone refill it & that same person just ignored the messy tables, floors & trash cans which he could of came back to clean instead he just went back & disappeared behind the register & honestly both times the inside was not that busy someone could of cleaned the lobby real quick. The last time we were inside for 45min & not once did I see anyone clean or throw out the trash at all, customers were wiping their own tables. They either need to hire an extra person to clean or have the managers be more alert of the situation or hire workers who care & want to work there. The menu offered seven types of crispy chicken sandwiches, three sizes of crispy chicken tenders with a choice of six different sauces, three kinds of crispy chicken salads, three sides, and three beverages. The sandwiches were sold a la carte between $9 and $12. The tenders were served with hand cut fries and a quantity of sauces that matched the number of tenders in an order. I chose two jumbo tenders with honey mustard and Korean gochujang. A text message was sent to my mobile number when the food was ready. The fries were thick cut and had potato skin along one edge. They were not as crispy as the tenders. The crust on the tenders was crunchy, but it did not adhere well to the meat. The honey mustard was quite sweet which I didn't mind. The gochujang did have a peppery kick so I would say it was between mild and moderate heat. I chose four skewers to make up the rest of my meal along with a plum drink that was one of the freebies in the refrigerated display. Beef, fish tofu, lamb, and pork belly were the proteins of choice. The fish was my favorite because of the tofu density which held up well to the mild seasoning. The pork belly was a couple of long bacon strips. If you like fried food as snacks, then Zhengxin Chicken Steak will be your spot. Looking at restaurants open past 8:00 P.M on a Wednesday evening was a challenge, but we found The Melt opened near La Jolla Village. The Melt is located in a relatively large shopping plaza next to other businesses such as Sprinkles. There is ample amount of parking spots available. As soon as you enter, you'll notice off to the left, there are two self-service kiosks where you can place your order. If you decide not to use the kiosks, you can still order at the register. On the right side, there are open tables to sit at. It was extremely busy Thursday night around 8:00 P.M and most tables were already in-use. We decided to place the order at the register since we had to customize one of the orders, specifically the steak and cheese. It took us about 20 minutes to place our order at the register, as there were other customers ahead of us, and the team member whom was taking the order, was also handling all of the take-out, and pick-up order requests. When we reached the register, we had placed the following orders1 Original Cheeseburger1 Bacon, Chicken, Mac'N'Cheese1 Steak and Cheese Sandwich (No Jalapenos, No Onions, No Peppers)After we placed the order, a puck was provided for us. We found one open table available and it was extremely dirty. There was food left over on it from previous customers and dirty napkins underneath the table. We ended up cleaning up the table before eating on it.We didn't wait too long for the order though, less than 10 minutes. The Steak and Cheese was scrumptious! All of the cheese inside the sandwich was melted and oozing out! There was plenty of steak in the sandwich. The seasonings used were well balanced with the steak and cheese. The Original cheeseburger was okay. The burger patty wasn't seasoned, but the ingredients added to the burger helped enhance the flavor. The bun was decent, light and fluffy. The Mac N Cheese was decent. The bacon and chicken really helped to bring out the flavors for the dish, but if it was just the mac n cheese, there wasn't much flavor in the sauce.Price wasn't too expensive for all of the food and drinks, less than $40.00. Rice Chicken is located right next door to Everbowl in the Rancho Penasquitos Town Center. The suite can seat roughly sixty customers inside. There were also a few outdoor tables for seating on a small patio. I came on a weeknight evening so there wasn't a wait. I decided to sit at the bar where I could look towards the kitchen window to see the staff prepare the food. The menu had four different choices of preparation with numerous ways of flavoring. A half order was six pieces while a full order was 12 pieces. I decided on a half order of the Snow Cheese Chicken which had a special parmesan powder sprinkled on top. The crust was nice and crispy, but I found the meat to be dry and not as flavorful as I had hoped. The cheese powder didn't stand out either. I also bought a half order of the Honey Garlic Marinated Rice Chicken to take home for another meal. The honey garlic sauce was very tasty, but again I thought the meat was overcooked and dry. It's convenient for North County residents to have another KFC option in the area, but I do think Rice Chicken ranks behind its competitors in the Kearny Mesa neighborhood. There is a statement that it takes 15-20 minutes to make each order fresh so you do have to exercise patience while waiting for your food. Overall, I gave my dining experience between three and 3.5 stars."

Patrick C. "Wow!!! This is by far the best chicken sandwich I've ever had. I ordered "The Western Chick" w/ Avocado, Bacon & Pepper Jack Cheese (additions cost extra). The chicken was cooked to perfection. Moist & Tender. Not tough & dry the way chicken can become. The Avocado was ripe, bacon crisp and cheese nicely melted. All too often with other restaurants the cheese is placed in cooled chicken which doesn't allow for the cheese to melt. The sandwich was huge! Big enough to where I could not finish it in one sitting. I also ordered a large side of Onion Rings. To my surprise they were battered rings not breaded. I love battered onion rings and these were the best I've had in a very long time. I've found my new favorite place for chicken sandwiches! Give them a try!"

Emmett T. "A Filipino restaurant used to occupy this suite on Sunset Cliffs Blvd in OB which is now the home of Chicken Over Rice. The set of businesses at this address has a shared dedicated parking lot behind the structure with over a dozen spaces available. The inside of the suite had only a few tables and a countertop with stools near the front window for seating. The menu was as simple as I had seen for a brick-and-mortar eatery. It was a Mediterranean-style bowl with a base of rice, pita, or salad for $15. The included toppings were chicken, chickpeas, lettuce, onion, parsley, cucumber salsa, and pepperoncini. You could order some of the ingredients as a la carte sides. Soda and water were the available drinks. My bowl had rice as the base while I asked for the three sauces (garlic, hot, tzatziki) in small cups instead of being mixed in. The order was quickly prepared and placed in a takeout paper bag. I ended up using just the garlic and tzatziki sauces to enhance the flavor of the bowl. The cucumber salsa had a unique taste while the rest was fairly standard. I don't know if you could order a veggie version for a lesser price, but then why come here when their focus is on chicken as the main ingredient?"
