First time here, and we came specifically for the "guobaorou". Both the guobaorou and the fried pork chunks were unanimously approved by the four Northeasterners at our table--this is truly authentic old-school guobaorou. Finding this level of quality in the Bay Area is incredibly hard. We highly recommend it! We hope this hidden gem thrives and continues to maintain its high standards for a long time. And to our genuinely skilled Northeastern chef--please don't leave!

Milpitas is the hub for Chinese food in the Bay, and this place did not disappoint. Excellent Szechuan food and extremely authentic. Easy to order from a QR code with both English and Chinese options. Flavor and price were both on point. Did have to wait slightly longer for the dishes to come out but it was also at their peak dinner hours. Staff were friendly and accommodating.

My standards are very high when it comes to Chinese/Sichuanese food because my mom is Sichuanese and has introduced me to so many authentic spots. That being said, Yuan Bistro is a good option! The spice is there but not overpowering; good for those that like spicy but can't handle extreme spice. The highlight from our meal was the Braised Pork Belly. Succulent chunks of tender pork belly, quail eggs, and tofu puffs in a delicious fragrant sauce; not spicy but tasty nonetheless. Everything else was also good but I will say that I've had better versions of these dishes at other restaurants. Still, not bad at all. I actually found that everything tasted even better as leftovers. My only suggestion is for them to add more numbing spice to their dishes to replicate that signature Sichuanese flare.Overall, the food here was solid! Good place to satisfy your Chinese food or spicy food cravings. The service was just okay; they really just do the minimum of giving you your food. Spacious spot good for family-style meals too!

I kept seeing this place everywhere on social media and whatever social media was doing it was doing right because I ended up taking my family there and absolutely loved it! I got several dishes and almost all were spicy.Harbin style pork- Utterly delicious. The batter wasn't too much and it was fried to the point where it retained the crisp even after the sweet sauce glaze was added on. It was on the sweeter side but that's the initial intention of the dish. The batter itself was also sticky and gooey which I loved!Pork kidney - Delicious. It had numbing spice to it but it was weird because there weren't any visible peppercorns. A TON of flavor. Literally jam packed. It was a bit on the saltier side but delicious nonetheless. This is a cold dish.Cereal prawns - The 2nd best thing I had here. Covered in cereal that resembled honey bunches of oats and as a cereal fanatic, this dish hit the mark! There was an aromatic creamy fragrance to it and upon eating the prawns, my taste buds were hit with a sugary rush then right behind saltiness rushed right after. Prawns were crispy and packed with flavor and the cereal topping with the sweet and salty combo worked really well!

This is my first time dining here with my family. Everything was flavorful and delicious, I'm glad they accommodated both spicy and savory dishes fit for my parents since my mom is into spicy food and my dad is into savory food. Therefore it's the best of both cuisines. What we ordered:Spicy beef (med spicy)- good texture and flavor Stir-fried string beans- love the aroma, it is not too spicy with the chopped chili peppers Sweet and sour spare ribs- love this dish yet watch out for the dried plum seeds to prevent choking Hot and sour vermicelli- same spice level as spicy beef and a little more sour, good noodle texture Rice jelly in hot and spicy sauce- same spice level, my mom liked it she ate it all Comprehensive fried rice- funny name, but the fried rice with bits of lamb meat was the best of last to finishThe restaurant was more spacious, clean, and well-organized than a regular dim sum restaurant. Plus we order from the QR code, and the food comes out in less than 30 minutes. All the waitresses were pleasant, yet they got busy during lunch, so we had to wave out loud in Mandarin.

You order through a QR code which I liked. The service was okay. You would need to wave down the servers if you want anything. The place was clean and spacious. The sweet and sour chicken was delicious and had a good crisp. The mapo soup that went with it was the perfect combination. The mapo soup was definitely very spicy. I wanted to finish the whole meal but I knew I was gonna be too full. Definitely would come back here again to eat those two items as well as try the other dishes.

Yuan Bistro is a solid place to get Chinese food. Parking was fine during the weekday afternoon. They have lunch specials and plenty of seating during the day. My friend and I ordered two dishes to share with one another. It was good and affordable. I would stop by again to try out their other dishes.

Chinese restaurant that specializes in spicy dishes. Interior is clean and well put together with a blend of traditional and contemporary artwork and furniture. Their Grilled Japanese Tofu on a Sizzling Plate is excellent. I loved this dish. It was very tasty. Great combination of ingredients, colors, and textures. I'd give this dish a 4.5/5.The Stir-Fry Sliced Pork, I would rate a 3.5/5. It was very tasty as well. The pork was sliced thin which I liked, but one downside of thinly sliced pork is it will be dry and overdone if the vegetables are sliced thicker and stir fried at the same time. What impressed me about this dish were the peppers. I loved the green peppers they used. It was very appetizing but I think if they used a different protein such as chunks of chicken instead of thinly sliced pork and tenderized it with corn starch before stir frying, I would have bumped the score up for this dish. The flavors were on point.Friendly service staff. Standard prices.

Yuan Bistro specializes in spicy dishes, but not all of them are overpowering so even non-spicy eaters can enjoy a meal here I was impressed by their Grilled Japanese Tofu served on a sizzling platter, which was so silky it literally melted in my mouth! Their shrimp in black pepper butter sauce was incredibly flavorful. All the other dishes were delicious too and served in generous portions. If you're looking to excite your taste buds, this place will definetly cheer you up! ORDER * Beef chow mein* Grilled Japanese tofu on sizzling plate* Shrimp in black pepper butter sauce* Pumpkin with salty egg yolk* Yang chow style fried rice

Mediocre, some hits and misses. Ok for kids but not too many non spicy kid friendly dishes:- spicy food is good- sizzling tofu is good- fried rice is terrible, very soggy- sweet & sour spare ribs are very sweet- be careful when ordering the roast duck because it is more of a smoked duck with reddish meat. Not regular cantonese roast duck (the picture shows a regular duck). They should really update their menu...
