I'm normally not a big fan of udon but love this place. The broths are super flavorful and there's a variety for savory fans, sweet fans, thick or light.Tonkotsu is on the more savory and rich side and is my go to flavor. The portions are also huge.Prices are starting to get a little on the steep side though.

Food: We got the mentai cream + cold spicy niku udon! First time trying the mentai cream and it was so delicious and lives up to the hype. So creamy, and even though I don't like cheese I thoroughly enjoyed the mentai cream. It is super filling, though. The cold udon was also great, a classic. Service: We came early, and the servers were so quick and kind! They're super on top of things such as bussing and clearing your table. Ambiance: This location is really different from the SF Japantown location. SF has more of an intimate vibe while this one seems more casual. I didn't mind it, but it was different from what I expected!

The broth for the tonkatsu ramen was rich, creamy, and so soothing on the tummy after a long, tiring week. The udon was thick and very filling. It definitely made it to my list of comfort food--but with a glass of a lot of water for the thirst afterwards. The yaki onigiri wasn't what I expected. The rice wasn't crispy, the large slice of salmon was smoked salmon instead of fresh, and the parmesan curls were interesting. The kids' meal was thoughtful. It comes with a small bowl of udon in broth with tempura broccoli, a small serving of corn kernels and peeled edamame, a corn fritter, and a few fries. It also comes with a coin to their gachapon machine. The noodles weren't quite enough bc the serving was just a small portion of the whole meal--like a side dish rather than the entree. The restaurant is pretty busy for dinner, so getting on the wait-list on Yelp beforehand is a good idea.

Only wanted to go here for the Mentai Cream Udon and I have no regrets! Soooo good, creamy, not too salty ^_^ 5 out of 5, but I'm biased because I love mentaiko.Hubby got the Salmon and Cream Spinach Udon. He said it was ok, 3.5 out of 5. He said we probably would have liked it better if it came with salmon sashimi rather than smoked salmon. Theres a waitlist you can add your name on in the front and we only waited like 10 mins for a table of 4 and an infant around 1pm.

Udon Mugizo now has my heart in San Jose, and I'm excited to return to experience their delicious udon. My grandma recommended this place, and she knows the staff somehow lol. My family is well-familiar with this location because they used to dine at the business known as Ringer Hut. They also have a big parking lot for their guests. Upon arriving, there was a decent wait, and we had to hop on the Yelp guestlist. There usually is a long wait for this spot so be sure to expect this. I ordered the Sukiyaki udon, which had a sweet and savory taste. It also came in a different bowl than my other family's dishes. The broth wasn't too oily or greasy, so it sat well in my stomach. Next time, I want to try their tempura udon or order their tempura in general.

Perfectly chewy, delicious noodles! The broth for my Niku Udon was wonderful, as was the beef in it. They have some unusual tempura - our favorite was corn, and then the maitake mushroom - not a super fan of the eggplant tempura. Miso Cod (appetizer) was just meh. This place was packed on a Saturday at 6pm. We put our name on the Yelp waitlist and were seated probably 20 minutes later. Service is quick but we didn't feel rushed. The host and servers were all professional. Will definitely go back to try a donburi bowl and have more corn tempura.

I felt this spot was ok. I had high expectations but thought the food was mediocre. I checked in on the waitlist via Yelp and despite there being multiple tables open, we had to wait about 10 minutes, which is fine but just odd. The 4 groups after us were seated immediately after us as well. This was a Saturday at 5:15pm and it wasn't busy when I initially checked in / got there. We got the assorted tempura and the beef donburi set with udon, which came out first. Unfortunately, the tempura came out cold... I expected it to be piping hot or warm but it was just cold. We munched on that first as I was still waiting for my mentaiko cream udon which came out about 5 minutes later. Since they bring the food in trays, my tray was lowkey hanging off since the table was a bit small. Overall, felt the food was just OK. I had a HUGE craving for the mentai cream udon but thought it was just ok and not that appealing due to the cheese they use as it did not mix well smell wise with the mentaiko. I'm not too sure if it was the cheese that was bad or what, but I wasn't too fond of it. I saw other reviews stating it was too salty but I thought mine tasted fine in terms of taste.Overall, it wasn't terrible, it's just I personally would not be back. I think there's great potential and service plus atmosphere was nice, it just didn't hit the expectations for a Japanese udon spot for me, unfortunately.

It seemed fitting that I recently went to Udon Mugizo in SF Japantown. Today, I met up with some friends to have dinner here. Waitlist recommended though all of your party must be present before being seated. Same as other location. The parking "can be" challenging at this popular restaurant but it's not that bad. They had some new menu items here. Black Cod Miso appetizer (3/5). It was ok, not as buttery or flakey like usual at places.Vegetable Tempura: sweet potato, eggplant, pumpkin, corn, maitake mushroom, broccoli (3/5). Not as crisp and light as you would expect.Tonkotsu Udon Deluxe: tonkotsu udon with pork kakumi (braised pork belly) (3/5). Flavorful, comforting soup. The noodles were bouncy and chewy. A good piece of pork belly but it wasn't tender at all. The egg was cooked well - runny and creamy.Yaki Onigiri (2 pc) (1/5 stars): 1x seasoned cod roe, parmesan cheese, honoring. 1x raw smoked salmon, ikura (seasoned salmon roe). We were really disappointed in this. The rice texture was really gummy. Usually the outside has that nice crunch. This did not. We should have returned it but...Salmon Spinach Cream Sauce Udon: spinach cream sauce, raw smoked salmon, parmesan cheese, green onions, kaiware sprouts, tempura bits, nori seaweed (4/5). This was good and consistent.I'd return and try other items.

Honestly super impressed, really loved this place! Highly recommend it. The cream sauce is not too dense and has a great flavor. The tonkotsu udon meat is to die for and the noodles are chewy and bouncy

Great spot in the South Bay for udon. Interior is nice with lots of seating, with great waiting service. Our group of 4 waitlisted on Yelp on a Sunday evening, and we were seated after roughly 10 minutes of waiting. I will note that you might have to wait inside rather than the lobby door though; we almost missed our call because they weren't going to the lobby to call for us. Another customer helped us out and let us know. The food itself is tasty. I got the sukiyaki udon. It was filling, but there wasn't too much meat. Mostly noodles, but it does come with a poached egg. Delicious nevertheless. They have a parking lot dedicated to their restaurant, but at night it can get often packed - my friends had to find street parking. Overall, I would recommend coming if you're craving udon in South Bay, nice spot to catch up with friends or go on a date.
