The place was lively and filled with folks on a Friday night. At times it was difficult to hear and talk amongst your own table because of this. However it wasn't a huge issue for us.The food was amazing! We ordered the Brussels sprouts as an appetizer and I enjoyed the balsamic glaze and the large Parmesan slices on the side. For my main I ordered the special which was a skirt steak in a teriyaki sauce with a loaded baked potato and some steamed veggies. It was definitely a hearty and balanced meal and I still think about it to this day. Definitely check this place out! Parking can be a lil tricky since it's kinda small.

i've been to this restaurant two separate times and both were polar opposite experiences; so i'm going to go neutral with a 3/5 rating. the first time was in may 2024 the second was january 2025.the first visit: we had excellent service, the staff were all friendly, and the food was fantastic. the ahi poke tower is TO DIE FOR.january 2025: we had a little bit of a wait which was to be expected for a saturday night. when we finally got sat outside, our waiter was super attentive and came to check on us often. they had tons of fires going which helped with the cold! after we ordered it became a completely different dining experience. we didn't see our server for a long while -- one of the fires was out of propane and finally had to ask someone else to replace it. after almost 45 minutes we finally got our food. everyone's food was colder than room temp, like it had been sitting out for a while *womp womp*. the food seemed wildly under seasoned and the kids food came out last. our server didn't come to check on us till we were half way done with our food so we had to ask other staff for things. our server was attentive to his other tables, so when we were done with our food (and trying to leave) we again had to ask for our check from another server and continue to wait. i work in the hospitality industry, so i'm cognizant of how heavy this industry has been hit. however, serving cold food (when you expect it to be warm) and spending over $150 on a meal is just a tough pill to swallow. hopefully it was just a bad day, and that things are always like my first experience! semi-minimal parking lot too, but there's the street for additional parking.

We have dinner here every year during our pre-Christmas Eve vacation in Aptos, and it's always a highlight for our family. The kids and adults love the food and the welcoming atmosphere. Even the hour-long wait for our table feels enjoyable as we relax around the fire pit with our favorite drinks--it makes the time fly by.The food is consistently excellent, and we highly recommend this spot. Don't miss the Oreo bread pudding for dessert--it's a family favorite and the perfect way to end the meal!

First off, I like that they have a nice outdoor patio so it's perfect meals after a day at the beach, and they have quite an offering for lunches. When I come across a good looking menu, I always find it hard to pick one thing I want to eat. Thankfully I had my sister there with me who generally has the same taste in food, so we were able to share the two items that we were both eyeing. 1) Seafood Cioppino scallops, clams. mussels, prawns, fresh fish, roasted tomato-herb broth, bread & butter (34)2) Sesame Seared Ahi field greens, soba noodles, sashimi-grade ahi, roasted peanuts, sweet peppers, radishes, pickled ginger, honey-soy ginger dressing (25)The seared ahi salad is one of my favorites and the ahi tuna is so fresh. The combination is honestly one of the best I've had. The seafood cioppino was also delicious and they were very generous with the cioppino. None of the seafood was overcooked and the sauce was perfect. The portions were generous, and the staff here was very nice and even offered to split the dishes into two portions when they overheard that we were sharing. This is one of my gotos whenever I'm in the area, so if you haven't tried it yet, you ought to.

Great modern indoor/outdoor vibes at this place with attentive and courteous service despite its popularity. Don't be detereed by the parking as there are additionsl lots in the back. We were seated surprisingly quickly with a brief wait for a party of 4 on a Friday night. The Spicy Hibiscus Margarita and Bourbon Bramble, Shirley Temple and Strawberry Lemonade arrived efficiently and were a great warm up to dinner. We started with Ahi Poke Tower, Truffle Fries and Smoked Gouda Macaroni and Cheese with Bacon. The Ahi was generous and perfectly presented with cubes of Ahi delicately balance among sliced beets, and cucumber which paired amazingly well. The accompanying fried wontons were a delicious treat. The mac and cheese was ooooh so comforting and the smoked gouda made it truly stand out. We had the Roasted Beet Salad, Iceberg Wedge with Spicy Candied Bacon, Chicken Pesto Alfredo and Half Herb Roasted Chicken with apricot ginger glaze. The Beet Salad was slightly disappointing as the beet pieces were had to find in the overly dressed salad! The spicy candied bacon was a standout in the Wedge, definitely made the dish. The chicken was slightly dry bit the apricot ginger glaze was deliciously smoked and flavorful, making the dish.

The Hideout is a hidden gem! Literally eating in a home transformed into a restaurant. It really is the definition of homey vibes. Salad was a large portion (next time I might ask for extra dressing), my fave was the ahi tuna app - won ton chips are delicious. Great flavors and friendly staff and they are efficient and work hard. You def feel like this is a "local" type of spot. Will definitely come again.

Delicious and dog friendly patio! Came on a weekday and we're seated right away. My dog is a barker and the waitress would walk slowly to our table to avoid the barks which I appreciate. I try my hardest to control my dog but it's nice when the amazing staff has fun with him as well. The food was delicious and tasted really fresh. The chicken wasn't necessary to add to my salad because I was so full after eating some fries. Would recommend sitting outside on a nice day! The weather was great and the seating comfortable.

My family and I REALLY wanted to celebrate our aunts birthday at the Hideout since we have enjoyed this place in the past. But when calling to place a reservation, we were told they couldn't hold one for us unless it was 7 people, and we only were 6. We were 1 person off and they wouldn't allow us to make a reservation. Instead we were told we could just walk in and get whatever table is available and whatever server is available at that time. Not good enough. I mentioned we were celebrating a birthday, and wanted a server that would accommodate us and make the celebration meaningful. I ALWAYS pay a very generous tip to servers since they are what make dinners out the most enjoyable. I was a server for years so I appreciate good customer service and I know what goes into making a night out meaningful for paying clients. We really only wanted our night to be perfect. That didn't matter to them, they told me that was their policy and even doubled down when I spoke to a manager. I go to many restaurants and can list a few in the area that DO take reservations and WILL make birthdays a fun event. Clearly this place doesn't. Unless you come with at least 7 people. All other parties are forced to accept whatever walk-in accommodations are available. I am really disappointed because like I said, I enjoyed the food here. But not now. The manager was rude and obnoxious. No wonder this place has the bad reviews it does. We really wanted to give them business but I guess if you're not a party of 7, they won't make a reservation even when you're celebrating a special evening with friends and family. Go elsewhere. And I hope the owner reads this. You have a really stupid reservation policy. And the manager on duty should have understood that even a party of 6 is worth reserving a table for. We would have spent over $600 minimum. EASILY. Which I was happy and excited to pay for, since we wanted the night to be special for our aunt. Thats why the reservation was so important to us. This place clearly does not understand that. Accommodate everyone that wants to come to your restaurant. You are literally sending away business and having your staff double down when patrons call to give feedback. Bad service all around. Never. Ever. Again. I feel like Julia Robert's in Pretty Woman... "Do you work off commission?" "Big mistake. HUGE!"

Let me start by saying we love this restaurant. The food is good, the service is great and the people are very nice. That said about three months ago I got food poisoning from eating their cioppino. I called the restaurant and the kitchen person I spoke to said they would check the seafood. This week a friend of mine also got food poisoning from the restaurant, but didn't have seafood. While we may go back to the restaurant, when I called the manager, he said there was nothing much he could do. My friend isn't going back. The manager said they had the cleanest restaurant and kitchen you'll find. While I agree that it is clean, the problem is either with the food inspection or hand washing. Either way I wish he had been more helpful. My real purpose in posting this is that I'd like to hear if anyone else has gotten food poisoning at the restaurant.
