They've complete have redeem themselves, I don't know if they've changed ownership or what but it's literally my FAVORITE sushi spot in Oakland, the customer service is top tier, the food is fresh and delicious. I always order a Gold dragon with avocado, it's the best. The teriyaki bento bowl is the best teriyaki bowl I've had in a while, I now recommend this place to everyone I know now.

We actually wanted to introduce our daughter to the wonders of the sushi boat... but it was closed :-/ so we roamed the neighborhood for a bit in search of dinner. I was all set on The Star, but the husband had different plans. His stomach was expecting sushi and therefore would get sushi. Off we went to Yelp and looked for more sushi options in the area. Lo and behold, Shogun popped up. It didn't look too fancy from the outside, but the reviews looked good, so we decided to try it. Basically, it's a husband and wife operation and they both serve and prepare the food. I was a bit hesitant when I saw it. Also the prices were higher than I expected from looking at the interior. But hey, we were super surprised. Very sweet owners, solid, fresh sushi. I decided against raw fish and got the seafood udon instead. Best decision and best udon I had in a long time. Loaded with fresh fish, super fragrant broth.

Food was excellent! Only that oysters and calamari were not available when we came on a Friday night. Parking was a challenge and you have to be patient. I wish there was a little more light (ambience: dark) to read the menu but our phone worked okay. Service was okay and great. More people came so they got busier but still kept our water glasses filled.Will definitely come back.

Last night was date night and I wanted to try a sushi spot I hadn't been to yet. Naturally I went on Yelp and I noticed my friend Adriana had left this place a really good review. I trust her taste 100% so that was an easy decision. We arrived and the atmosphere was super low key. It's a small dining area with dim lighting. There is no sushi bar to sit at but I didn't mind that at all. The tables were large booths that could easily fit 6 people. The server was not pushy and let us take our time. They were very kind and ended up providing a complimentary appetizer which was delicious. The menu itself was fairly priced and comparable to most sushi restaurants these days. The fish was extremely fresh and skillfully cut which is honestly rare these days. The rice wasn't caked on so it felt more like traditional sushi. The rolls came out extremely quickly. I was immediately in love! My man LOVED the chicken / salmon teriyaki and his roll. The salmon kama took a bit longer which they warned me and I wasn't surprised since it's essentially bbq'd. To my surprise it came with 2 salmon kamas and they were delicious. Perfectly cooked. I was also impressed with the sweet chili dipping sauce. It had obviously been modified or made in house altogether. I will absolutely be back. This is my new go to. If you're looking for crazy special rolls, I'd say this place is more traditional. But if you're looking for quality, you've found it!

Ok first off you walk in and theres a table and 2 fake trees that blocks your way, and you wonder if they are open for dine in or not. Then you proceed to let them know you'd like to dine in, and then they move the trees for you to enter. It's also super super dark inside, saw another guest pulling out their cell phone flash light to pay the bill.Food. We ordered a variety of items. Rolls, bento box, and udon (but with ramen noodles instead and was $2 up charge). Everything was ok. Nothing spectacular or out the ordinary. OverallFelt pricier than usual. $160 including tip for 3 adults and 1 kid.

review for delivery !I was craving some sushi late tonight , went on door dash and seen I had only 20 minutes left to order , I took the chance and I'm happy lol .Food got here and it was still hot which I REALLLY appreciated . I know I as a customer I did wait till the last minute , kitchens start to close and clean up a little before closing . But to my happy delight everything was still hot like it was just made ! Thankyou .This was my 2nd time eating from this place . I got miso soup ( rich flavor and still hot ) the lion princess roll ( still very hot ) melted in my mouth . Just the right amount of the sauce it wasn't overwhelmed. I also got the gyozas ( I think they gave me 2 extra pieces ! The meat was so flavorful and I chose the pan seared instead of deep fried , perfect amount of meat not over powered by the dumpling ) And they were nice and even gave me 2 spring rolls on the house ! I've seen other pictures of them gifting other customers things so I felt special I got something too lol .I'll have to try them for indoor sitting , but for delivery I was not disappointed and I'd definitely give them a try especially if you're looking for sushi late .Honorable mention : not only did they take the time to properly bag the order , using card board to keep everything stacked and not moving around , they pay attention ! I asked ( and payed for ) extra eggs and a special sauce on the side and I left a note with my delivery saying please make sure it's there and on the side ! They understood the assignment ! Very pleased for delivery !

As soon as our order was ready, the restaurant called to notify us.We ordered 2 nigiri deluxes and the owner, Wendy, was so sweet and added in a complimentary appetizer and beer! I had a brief conversation with her when I picked up the food and you can see she genuinely cares about the experience customers have at her restaurant.The nigiri was fresh and delicious! Also the egg rolls Wendy packed for us were truly the best we've ever tasted. I'd definitely recommend and come back.

This is one of the only late night sushi places near me so a friend and I went their on a whim last night, and so glad we did. The fish was sooo fresh and generously portioned. I wish I was more hungry so I could have ordered more food. Service was friendly and attentive, and they gave us mochi ice cream on the house for a birthday. I'll definitely be back!!

This is place is my go-to spot for sushi in the east bay. Everything is super fresh, portions are large and if you order a lot, they sometimes throw in some extra freebies too which is always welcome! I've gotten delivery a bunch of times and everything is always packed really well. The restaurant looks like it's run by a really cute, hard working local mom and pop :) Also their chicken katsu is perfect!
