Sat at the bar without a reservation and was able to get seated right away at about 8pm on a friday night. Their bar/lounge area is small but felt like being inside a speakeasy. The bartender let us know we could order anything of the menu a la carte apart from the bar menu so you have plenty of options! Drinks were excellent and did not disappoint.Yellowfin tartare- 9/10 came with homemade potato chips and it paired so nicely, I recommend getting as an appetizer!Steak tartare- 9/10 came with like a smoked bread and was my favorite of the two tartare. Highly recommend to try it! Black label burger- 9/10 Had my eye on this burger for a while and boy was it good. It was flavorful, the cheese was perfect and it left me wanting more. I know it's just a burger but the presentation was on point! Beef wellington- 8/10 My bf ended up getting this dish and we have had hell's kitchen version so it was different but still very good! Overall, I have tried their seated reservation in the restaurant and honestly liked sitting at the bar for their flexibility and ability to order anything of the menu. It felt more relaxed and we had amazing service! I recommend coming in to eat at the bar/lounge to try it out!

My husband and I came here for Valentine's Day celebration. We were seated at the main dining area with high ceilings, I loved the vibes and ambiance at the main dining area. Soft lighting with black interiors. Definitely make a reservation for this place if you want the main dining area. The other side of the restaurant is bar dining and more casual setting and also louder which I wouldn't enjoy as much.Services were what we might expect for a fine dining. There is a bit of a confusion our waiter made though to give us Selby's bottled water for nearly $12 while we only wanted still water (regular water, not bottled). Not a big deal but a bit of a surprise to us later that we got the bottled water for a charge.I ordered the risotto (my entree) which I think there is too much black truffle oil at the edges of the risotto and I wouldn't appreciate too much oil, black truffle or not. My waiter is considerate to take it back and put the truffle oil on the side. Risotto is delicious but also it is rich and heavy, glad the truffle oil is on the side because it will be too much if it is all mixed into the risotto. I had the strachinno caramelle (cheese pasta) for the appetizer which was pretty good. The passion fruit tart as my dessert is perfect citrus to balance the rich/heavy risotto. Selby's popover is pretty good too, instead of some other bread options from similar fine dining restaurants. My husband had their king salmon which we find a bit fishy in taste. The menu is per person for $125 but with a surcharge on selected items from the menu where "supplement" is the extra charge. We didn't choose the supplement priced items. We had two cocktails. The bill came out to be around $400 for two people, taxes and tips included which was expected.Overall, it is a good experience for a date night. Not too impressed with the foods and offerings comparing to other similar fine dining restaurants we had been to. There are so many of these restaurants in the Bay Area and good to cross off another one on our list.

Overall nice restaurant with good food but mediocre ambiance and service. A little pricey and enjoyed the meal but wouldn't go again or recommend We were able to order off the bar menu and got both taratares, the Ceasar and burgers and steak frite. The ceasar was quite disappointing just a couples prices of lettuce with and sauce dropped on top that was unmixed so you had varying bites of flavour. Tartare was good but the chips for the tuna were far too salty. Burger was great juicy and tangy from the horseradish's. steak fruit was cooked to perfection and meat like butter with a lovely garlic aoli. Service was kinda meh server was a little sassy which I could have lived without. Also I asked for a recommendation for a drink and asked for vodka or gin base and then I was served a basic rum based drink lol. Stick to wine it's better.

The host flopped down the menu on the table while we are still standing. He could not wait for us to sit down! Fly in our drinking water, and no apology from our waiter. Food was ok. Coffee was lukewarm!!!Ambiance is nice, and they have a lot of people working there. In such a cold weather, they could have planned to have our car already in the front door when we were ready to leave. No one in our party said they will be back.

We had come to Selby's and was able to sit at the bar and get an al la carte menu on a Saturday evening. The food was overall good. We had ordered caesar salad, tartare, and steak frites. I enjoyed both the tartare and steak frites and thought they were cooked great! As for the caesar salad, I felt a little bit disappointed as it was just some uncut long pieces of lettuce. As for the ambiance, I thought it was quite fancy and definitely nice for a special occasion.

We decided to come to Selby's for our anniversary dinner and made an advanced reservation. The first impression was great as the restaurant's setting is beautiful and we were seated upstairs. The good however was good but not leaving a lasting impression, the service was fine but the experience wasn't such that we would want to go back... they served a good steak and beef Wellington.

Selby's in Atherton has a lot going for it, but ultimately, it left me feeling a bit underwhelmed. The classy, dark decor is striking and sets an elegant tone for a night out. It's the kind of place that feels special and inviting, ideal for a date night or a celebratory dinner. The service, without a doubt, was excellent. Our server was attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely friendly, making sure we were well taken care of throughout our meal. It's clear that the staff is well-trained and committed to providing a great dining experience. However, when it came to the food, I felt it didn't quite live up to the high expectations set by the ambiance and the price point. While the menu boasted a variety of intriguing dishes, the execution was somewhat lackluster. I ordered the beef Wellington, which, while cooked correctly, but lacked depth of flavor. My wife echoed similar sentiments about her steak, which unfortunately didn't match the upscale vibe of the restaurant.I was hoping for a more memorable culinary experience. While I appreciated the atmosphere and service, the food just didn't deliver the quality I was looking for.

My 900th review goes to Selby's!!!!! Normally I try to write my reviews in chronological order, but we had such a memorable experience at Selby's that I had to write a review as soon as I could. Not to mention make this the 900th review! I booked a reservation exactly 2 months in advance, right when the exact date I wanted opened up on OpenTable. I added notes that it was for my boyfriend's 40th birthday (milestone bday!), and requested to be seated somewhere intimate, preferably a booth. On the date of the reservation, we were running half an hour late. We called to let them know, and Josh on the phone was super kind and accommodating. Complimentary valet parking REALLY helped save time when we arrived. One of the reasons I chose Selby's is because the ambience looked lovely from the photos. Lemme tell you, the vibes are way better in person. I really enjoyed art deco details such as the lamps, and we were seated in a cozy booth right by the fireplace on the first floor. The bathrooms are also beautiful with lovely lighting. The dinner menu is a 3-course prix-fixe menu at $125/person. We had:Appetizers: CHESTNUT VELOUTÉ: Roasted squash, Braised Apples, Candied PepitasThe butternut squash soup was very rich, and perfectly full of cozy fall flavors.DIVER SCALLOP VÉRONIQUE: Sunchokes and Muscat Grapes, Kaluga Caviar, Hazelnuts (and extra $25 due to caviar)The scallop had a wonderful golden crisp texture, and the caviar went perfectly with it.Mains: PETITE FILET, 6 OZ: King Trumpet Mushrooms, Potato Mille-Feuille, Bordelaise SauceHe ordered medium-rare, and it was so tender and juicyHONEY LACQUER DUCK BREAST: Glazed Tokyo Turnips, Poached Quince, Natural JusThe duck is dry-aged, and had a chewy texture I enjoyed. Definitely not oily the way duck can often get. It was admittedly hard to cut into. I found out that it's much easier to cut into the meat if you cut the skin off. That worked for me, especially since I get to savor the deliciously crispy skin on its own as I was finishing my dish. Dessert:HACHIYA PERSIMMON PUDDING (we doubled-up on this since this was the only dessert item that sounded appealing and unique): Brandied Toffee Sauce, GingerLike sticky toffee pudding, but make it Michelin-quality. It was so beautifully presented with curved tart-like edges, and the ginger sauce is perfect! It makes me think of how ginger soup is a popular Chinese winter dessert, so this was a lovely seasonal dessert.COMPLIMENTARY BIRTHDAY CAKE: It was topped with a candle! The flavor is strawberry chiffon, and it came with whipped cream, sprinkles, and a chocolate piece that read Happy Birthday. It was the perfect birthday dessert!COMPLIMENTARY CHOCOLATES AND BLUEBERRY POMEGRANATE GUMMIES AND CARAMELS: This came after paying the bill. Thank you for spoiling us!Our waitress Serene is SO SWEET. She was very attentive to us all night, and I enjoyed talking to her, and learned that she's a fellow Taiwanese, so it was really lovely to get to learn about her background, what brought her here to the US, and her kids. I tipped her well, and we felt lucky she was our server. Tipped Alex the valet driver as well. Right when we stepped out, we were pleasantly surprised our car was already right in front waiting for us. We chatted with him for a bit, and learned he's from Hong Kong. He was awesome! This experience at Selby's was worth every penny. Highly recommend coming here for special occasions. Definitely want to come back for other occasions, and even check out the bar!

The ambient was really nice and they had complementary valet parking. The service was great. The staffs were professional and friendly. It's a three course meal with few options to select from appetizers, main course and desert. I had the lemon drop drink (off the menu), yellowtail, petite filet, and chocolate cake. The drink was really refreshing and tasty. The liked the yellowtail with potato chips. The fish was fresh and tasty and the potatoes were crispy. Yum! The filet (medium) was juicy and tender. They also provided bread which tasted like croissant. The bread was crispy and soft. Overall great experience.

If you're looking for a dining experience that feels both luxurious and inviting, Selby's is the place to be. My wife and I recently had the pleasure of dining here, and it's clear why this Michelin-starred gem is so highly regarded. For the main course, I went with the petite filet, which was cooked to perfection--tender, flavorful, and complemented beautifully by their recommended sauces and sides. My wife opted for the duck, and she hasn't stopped talking about its crispy skin and rich, succulent flavor since. The appetizers were spectacular, setting the tone for an unforgettable meal. We particularly loved how customizable everything was. Selby's offers a variety of add-ons, from luxurious ingredients like black truffle shavings to personalized touches for every dish. Don't skip the special appetizers--they're curated with incredible attention to detail and seasonal flair. The service was impeccable, with the staff striking the perfect balance between being attentive and giving us space to enjoy our evening. Their knowledge of the menu and pairing recommendations elevated the experience even further.Selby's is the kind of place that reminds you dining out can be an art form. It's not just a meal--it's an experience. Worth every penny and every bit of the hype!
