I saw a review saying that this restaurant uses cheap Chinese noodles. I want to clarify that the noodles used in this restaurant are freshly made from Japanese ramen factories@San Jose . I don't mean to educate you on ramen, but this white noodle is Tonkotsu noodle (豚骨ラーメン). Ramen is not just yellow in color, there are over 100 types of ramen. Since I am in the ramen industry, I have eaten over 100 ramen noodles. I think the specialty of this restaurant is the fresh soup base made with scallops . The noodles are softer because Alkali is not added, but still slightly chewy, it's depends entirely on individual preference.

Saw a new ramen place opened closeby, so gotta come try it right away!Maybe because it was Super Bowl day, or maybe because they're new, there weren't too many customers when I arrived (right before noon on a Sunday). That's fine with me! The restaurant was bright and clean. Service was quick and attentive, I ordered the Mars (spicy) noodles.Food came quickly, and the flavor of the broth is spot on! I can definitely taste the slight spiciness, but it is pleasant and doesn't detract from other flavors of the broth. Noodles are cooked well, still slightly chewy. My only complaint is the egg was slightly overcooked for a ramen egg.Definitely a great experience even while they're still finding their footing! This restaurant is located in a busy plaza with many popular restaurants. Finding parking will probably be a challenge if you come at normal meal times.

**3.5 STARSRamen Wakusei recently opened up in Sunnyvale and offers a relatively small menu that adds seafood flavors to more traditional ramen broths that we're familiar with.Overall, I thought the ramen was average. Maybe it's because we went during their soft opening but I found that their broths lacked a depth of flavor and needed more seasoning. The chicken karaage was good - fried well and juicy on the inside. The prices are also slightly on the higher end, especially if you get one of their seafood-based flavors (e.g. Mercury or Neptune). ORDER:|-| Venus ($17.98) - Tonkotsu-based ramen topped with pork belly chashu, kikurage mushrooms, green onions, black garlic sauce, half seasoned soft boiled egg, fried lotus, and pickled radish.|-| Mercury ($21.98) - Tonkotsu-style ramen with a broth made from kelp and bonito flakes, topped with butterfly shrimp, pork belly chashu, kikurage mushrooms, green onions, half seasoned soft boiled egg, fried lotus, and pickled radish.|-| Chicken Karaage - Offered for free during their soft opening

Yummy new ramen spot! It's a galaxy themed menu so all the ramens are named after planets! I ordered the mars ramen which is a spicy chili garlic with charsiu, boiled egg, corn, radish, mushroom! It wasn't too salty or overwhelming of a chili flavor. Very well balanced but I do wish the ramen noodles were a little more chewy. They do give a LARGE portion of ramen and we'll be back to try other bowls! They sat us very quickly and our food came out promptly after we ordered. There's quite a few tables inside but keep in mind that this is a pretty busy plaza so parking may be a little difficult! Overall, would come here again :)

Was excited to try a new ramen place close to where I live. However, I found this one to be relatively weaker than many other ramen spots I have tried in the area. The ramen we got had good texture of noodles, and a great broth, but found the amount of oil used in other ingredients felt too overpowering, and brought down the quality of the bowl. On the other hand, the theme of the restaurant was really unique and fun. The space-related decor and names for dishes was fun to see. Service was also decent, and the restaurant was clean.

Tried out a newly opened Japanese ramen spot. The place has a clean and minimalistic décor, but the menu is a bit unusual--each ramen is named after a star, which doesn't quite match the Japanese theme, in my opinion. I went with "Mars," but there was only one noodle option (thin noodles). We also ordered karaage as an appetizer.Presentation-wise, both dishes looked great, though they took some time to arrive. Unfortunately, the broth was pretty average--reminded me of instant noodles--and the noodles themselves were nothing special. Overall, it didn't leave much of an impression, so it won't be making my go-to list. Let's see if things improve over time.

You know how the best ramen makes you want to just gobble it up and drink up all the broth even though you know it's not good for you? This isn't that unfortunately, but it's a decent ramen. The ingredients seem really fresh and quality, the portion size is fine, price is pretty standard. The pork in particular is really nicely seasoned and sliced really thin which makes it easy to eat in one bite vs having to bite a piece off which can be difficult when it's thicker. Because the pork is sliced so thin, I would have hoped to have more pieces though because as it was it was probably equivalent to 1.5-2 thick slices. The noodles are not your usual ramen noodles, which wouldn't be an issue so much if the broth were better.I think they could benefit greatly from two changes:1) choice of noodle (standard and whatever they're using now)2) broth reformulation - it's not just lack of salt, though I'd bet the salt content is a bit less than normal (which isn't bad - better slightly under than too salty), but it's missing that umami essence that makes you want to drink every last dropWhile it's not trivial to make a really great broth, I doubt that it's an insurmountable challenge either. If you visit the ramen places that have lines out the door, identify what's missing from yours. One idea is to have a Yelp event where you can serve mini-portions of ramen with different broths and have people rate each broth. You'll find the most popular broths out of what you've served and also discover whether you have an objectively delicious one. If your most popular broths still only rate a 7/10 (for example), you know there's still room for improvement. This place is still newer, and the employees really seem to care. I think there's an opportunity to be a 5 star ramen place, but some things do need to be tweaked.Ambiance is fine - nothing elaborate or fancy, but perfectly suitable for location and restaurant tier.

Ramen Your MindNew space-themed Ramen joint (Wakusei = "Planets" in Japanese) housed at a former Relaxing Foot Spa along the Asian Foodie Highway (aka El Camino Real). They're currently in their "soft opening" stage** and are giving away free karaage with a purchase of a Ramen bowl (one per table fyi).My son had never had real Ramen (just the instant shit we buy from the Costcos) so I decided it was finally time for him to try the real thing. The Good:*The bowls are plated beautifully. *All our eggs were cooked perfectly with a nice custardy yolk. The egg itself could've been more seasoned but I am picking nits. *I like that they have a preset larger (i.e., premium) size for us hungrier folks (i.e., fat asses)*So the noodles that came with my Mercury Ramen were a more standard Ramen egg noodle, while the ones that came with the Mars Venus ramens were a thinner, white rice noodle. I thought mine were great but Carissa had serious noodle envy as she wasn't a fan of the thin, white noodles. I'm assuming you can ask for the traditional noodles, but they don't even let-on that there's an option. So, who knows? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯*Karaage (see above) was deliciously crisp and juicy. *We have been trying to catch up on One Piece and recently saw the Hatchan saga and my son wanted to try Takoyaki, so we did--and he loved it! I was lucky enough to snag one piece (haha) of them and from what I recall it was pretty good. *Interior is pure minimalism and a nice wood esthetic and a large moon emblazoned on the walls. I'm not sure if they plan to really go for the planetary theme more beyond the moon and menu item names. The Meh:*Let's talk broth here: the best of the bunch was the Venus traditional tonkatsu broth was very light but still had a nice flavor; the Mercury broth had a heavy fish flavor from the dashi and bonito flake broth that was OK but maybe could've been seasoned a bit heavier; and finally the lava-like Mercury broth was just straight chili oil that blew my palate out with just a few sips. Fwiw, my son loved it but he likes things spicier than me and you know kids these days with the Taki's® and Flaming Hot Cheetos© nonsense. Feh...*Prices are pretty in-line with the norm. *Shared private lot that seemed to have plenty of parking but it is shared with a pretty popular Korean BBQ place, so it could get tight during certain days/times. No street parking. *No outdoor seating*No alcohol (yet?)The Ugly:*Service was fine but inexperienced, as we were the only ones in the restaurant, he just sort of hovered around waiting for an opportunity to serve us. While appreciated, nobody likes to be monitored constantly like a toddler in a knife factory while eating. Conclusion: Overall, Ramen Wakusei is a solid 3.5*, as they make a pretty good bowl of Ramen. If they could just gussy up the broths a bit then they could potentially make a really good bowl of Ramen. **I'm not sure when their soft opening ends, but maybe check their website, as that's how we found out about it in the first place.

Really love this new spot. the wait time is not that long especially not so many people found out yet. I got Neptune, it was so special because it has sea bass, 4 scallops and 2 wild shrimps in really fresh and tasty. I have never seen other ramen restaurant have such as fresh seafood ramen. highly recommend trying it out. it will be our main ramen spot in the future. They have really cute moon on the wall by the way:)
