New Hwong Kok is located inside Lion Center in Newark. I came to order BBQ Pork for take-out. I came early this time and no line. There are days when a line reaches out the door. The uncle asked if I wanted leaned or fatty meat and sliced the pork for me. I paid in cash as there is an extra charge for credit card payments. The service is quick and friendly. There is one line for meat and another for dim sum. Quick tip: if you just want dim sum, skip the lengthy line waiting for roasted duck, yellow chicken, BBQ pork, etc. and go inside the store. It must be good if there are constant lines to order take out.

This is one of those places to get your lunch. However, you're better off doing a take out rather than dining in because of how bland the atmosphere is. Still boxes at the front. I remember dining here when I was a lot younger. Wasn't really looking bad there at that time. The food was slimy and oily. I consider it below average tbh. It's cheap at the bright side. I highly recommend going to other restaurants if you want to get better quality of duck and chicken.

The food tastes like I'm in Beijing & SG. Auntie the cashier is very friendly, she gave me extra shirm chive dumplings. The Uncle who is cutting the meat suggests getting freshly cooked pork and I'm glad I did. The place is set up for a quick in and out to go, they have also a few tables if you want to dine in.

I agree with a review before me that said "haters gonna hate," but this spot is undefeatable. You think the aunties yelling "next" and the uncle chopping the duck care about what we say on Yelp? Lol. With that said, this spot is a no frills Chinese bbq and dim sum spot. You go in, get what you want, and leave. They've been in this plaza for as long as I can remember. They take card payments but charge extra 3%.

The quality is definitely lacking: roast duck lacks meat (mostly just oil and skin) and BBQ pork and roast pork are both usually cold (i.e., came out of the refrigerator because the fat was solid and white) even with it hanging under the "heat" lamps. Service is much better ever since the short fat bald guy stopped working there (y'all know who I'm talking about if you frequent this place regularly enough!).

Haters gonna hate but there's a reason why this establishment has been around forever and there are still lines out the door every day. This is my go to for a classic bowl of HK style wonton soup noodles with roast duck. Pro tip- they tend to put the choice roast duck pieces in the soup (vs selling by the pound) for some reason. They also have excellent crispy roast pork and other roast meats, as well as a very good congee. The everything bun is packed with delicious meat and a big chunk of egg. Dim sum items like the shu mai, turnip cakes, lotus in sticky rice are a good value but nothing to write home about.

Disappointing experience -- Poor service, and mediocre foodI had the unfortunate experience of visiting "New Hwong Kok" yesterday, and I must say that I feel utterly deceived by their Chinese name, as it is the same as the famous "Good Mong Kok Bakery." Unfortunately, the service and food at this establishment were far from satisfactory.Upon perusing the menu, I was particularly interested in trying the dried fish and peanut congee, which was clearly listed. However, the cashier lady responded in a condescending manner, informing me that they only served one type of congee--century egg and pork congee--which wasn't even mentioned on the menu. Disappointed and unwilling to eat century eggs, I decided to explore other options.I settled for an egg tart and the sticky rice in lotus leaf (Lo Mai Gai). It was less than $10, and I was prepared to pay for it using my credit card. However, my plans took an unexpected turn when the lady at the counter informed me that they had a minimum charge of $10 for credit card payments. This policy was not clearly stated anywhere in the establishment, leaving me feeling frustrated and inconvenienced.Reluctantly, I decided to add half portion of the soy sauce chicken to meet the minimum charge requirement, which costed me another $12.When I inquired about getting some minced ginger to complement the chicken, I was astounded by the response. The lady gave me one which is kind of small portion for half a chicken, so I politely asked if I could get another one. Then she curtly informed me that I would be charged an additional $0.50 for an extra serving, despite the fact that I had just spent $20+ and she's well aware that I don't have any cash with me. It was disheartening to see such a lack of flexibility and understanding when I could have just canceled the order instead of making extra purchase. Finally, I arrived home and eagerly tried the soy sauce chicken, only to be met with immense disappointment. It was the most overcooked and dried-out chicken I have ever encountered in the SF Bay Area. The quality fell far short of expectations and left me wondering why I even bothered to spend my time and money at "New Hwong Kok."In conclusion, my first visit to "New Hwong Kok" was an unpleasant experience marred by poor service, mediocre food, and an unmentioned credit card policy. I would not recommend this establishment to anyone seeking authentic Chinese cuisine or a pleasant shopping(dining) experience. It is clear that they have much room for improvement in terms of both their menu offerings, transparency regarding their payment policies and customer service!

This place has poor service, I went there early morning to get some Dian sum. I walked in and greeted the old three two in Cantonese and one in mandarin. She refused to acknowledge my present. Walks away once she said yes we open with an attitude. Will never come back. I rather eat Panda Express than here.

Found this spot by accident and decided to try the soy sauce chicken and steamed chicken to go. What a night-and-day difference compared to Costco's rotisserie chicken. Price aside, the chicken here is leaner, not as giant, and has a rich, flavorful taste with a firm texture, reminiscent of heirloom chicken you'd find in Asia. It's gonna be tough to go back to Costco's chicken after this.
