I don't get to eat Indian a lot as a lot of it has garlic and onions which I'm sensitive to but sometimes you just throw caution into the wind and you just sacrifice your stomach. In short, I'll gladly sacrifice my stomach to eat these dishes as they are comfort food...I'll just suffer the consequences later. And top notch customer service.L O C A T I O NMumbai Chowk is located on S Grimmer near Fremont Blvd a little off the ways from the Tesla Factory and 880 as well the Warm Springs BART Station. They do have their own parking lot which is nice so it was easy to park right in front of the door.I N S I D EIt's fairly spacious inside with a lot of indoor seating. Pretty quiet in there though we were the only ones there though it did start to pick up while we were having our meal.Dishes and drink wear were all stainless steel(?) or some type of metal.M E N UThey have a pretty straight forward menu with all your traditional Indian fare though they did have a good amount of seafood options which was different. I guess with a "Coastal Indian Cuisine" tagline, I would think you do have some seafood options. Although tempted to get some seafood dishes, I think I'll have to try it next time. The items on the menu can be customized for any food allergies. I could've asked for no onions or no garlic, but I'm not allergic, just sensitive and I wanted to experience the food in all its glory. We opted to get a Mango Lassi, Chicken Tikka Masala, Shrimp Biryani, Lamb Samosa (special), Lasuni Palak Paneer, Sabudana Wada (which we ended up not getting), and Vada Pav as well as some plain naan. Everything was full of flavor with a good amount of spice, a good level of spiciness and delicious but let's get a little deeper.~ Mango Lassi ~Full of mango flavor. Quite thick actually. Wish we had a bigger straw.~ Vada Pav ~This was delightful. Potato filled, fluffy bun and came with a chili powder on the side that the server said we should dip our vada pav in. The powder was interesting, and it was a bit spicy so I didn't have too much, but there was more to it than just spiciness. There are raw white onions which actually felt sweet when I ate it. But that potato patty was the star. I can't eat raw onions often these days but I'd gladly get this again without hesitation.~ Lamb Samosa ~It was a special of the day. It was a bit spicy but they had a couple chutneys to help either bring up the spice or balance. I went with balance and sweet with a tamarind chutney. MMMMmmmm good. I can drink that chutney. It was a ground lamb which was a little gamey tasting but it didn't bother me cause I had my chutney!~ Chicken Tikka Masala ~Creamy saucy dish with chunks of chicken that looked like it was breast meat. I licked every bit of that sauce off my plate with my naan.~ Shrimp Biryani ~I've never had a shrimp biryani and boy, am I glad we got the shrimp biryani. The rice was well spiced and a little spicy but the raita helped balance the heat. The shrimp was juicy and flavorful. Some of the best shrimp I've had. And they didn't skimp on the shrimp. There was a nice rice to shrimp ratio.~ Lasuni Palak Paneer ~Okay y'all had I known Lasuni meant garlic, maybe we wouldn't have gotten it, but it was the most unique palak paneer I've had. I'm so used to green palak paneer but this was more onion tomato based. The paneer was firm.~ Plain Naan ~It was crisp and fluffy and definitely a good way to sop up all the sauce.S E R V I C EWhen we arrived we were greeted warmly and we were able to decide to sit at any table. She took our order and made sure to repeat it. We ordered more after our first round as we were still deciding on more dishes. When the food came out, the server was so nice and gestured at what we should do with the sauces and dips. He also noticed our water container was low and refilled. The hostess came back around every so often to make sure everything was okay and she even offered to get more raita if our dishes were too spicy. We had forgotten to ask for mild spiciness on our food and she was kind enough to make sure the items that weren't made yet was altered accordingly.I had mentioned above that we didn't get one of our ordered items. I only noticed this after we had arrived home as I was thinking back on what we ordered. My hubby ended up reaching out to them and she offered us a refund which was very kind of her to do. Unfortunately, we used a payment that couldn't be refunded so she offered to do the next best thing which was offer us the appetizer the next time we came in. She didn't need to do anything about it, but the fact they tried their best to rectify the situation was going above and beyond. Just make sure you get everything you order.O V E R A L LI was surprised and glad we went here. The service was great and although there was a hiccup, they went beyond what was expected. The food was like a warm hug. I'm excited to try out more of the dishes and come back soon!

Excellent Indian Seafood joint, Goan/Konkani style. The Rawa fries - Pomfret, Shrimp will bring back Mumbai memories from Mahesh lunch home/Apporva/Trishna/Gajalee etc. Tha Malvani Chicken curry with Chapati's were awesome. On quizzing the host on Biryani's he suggested a new dish he was planning to introduce - Kheema Biryani, it blew our mind.Lot's of other stuff to try for future visits - Bhangda, Surmai, Vada Pao, Misal. All childhood memories. Also, they have a bunch of Thalis, both Veg & NonVeg, which folks around were gorging on.The Seafood quality is A1. Service very friendly, with the host personally engaged. Location is standalone. Place is spacious & clean, does need a bit of decor. This is a recently opened branch of the erstwhile Newark one. Lastly, it trumps the other more high profile restaurants offering similar fare at a premium. Absolute must try.

I went here a while back with a friend and she put me on this place. I'd mainly come here for the lunch specials because it's cheaper. I got the Tikka Masala and it was slightly different than what I'm used to. I feel like it was on the sweeter side? Not as heavy. Service was fast and the employees were nice! I thought the place was nice to sit down at but low-key why does it remind me a of a wingstops restaurant lolOverall great place, will come back for the lunch specials!

There's certainly plenty of Indian restaurants in Fremont, but this one is pretty unique. There's the regular curries and rice, but there's lot of different street foods, like wraps and items served in bread/rolls. They also have lots of seafood options. This time we went for the curries and rice, and we enjoyed their bold flavors. What we ordered:- Sabudana wada - these are like little hash browns. Fun to eat and was pretty good.- Chicken tikka masala - this is a favorite of ours and theirs is really good, with bold, smokey flavor.- Veg Jaipuri - this is a vegetable curry dish, but it's hard to distinguish what vegetables are in it. I only recognize peas and carrots. But the flavor was good.- Shrimp biryani - tasty with a spicy kickOverall, a nice addition to the Fremont Indian food scene.

In an area littered with Indian food places I don't know why you would go anywhere other then Mumbai chowk the flavor of the food is like no other. When it comes to food in Newark/fremont it's hands down my favorite place to eat. Order the chicken tikka Marsala 912 if you want a ton of flavor and a hole lot of spice.

We came here for dinner one night to give it a shot and it was SO GOOD! We ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala, Garlic Naan, Mango Lassi, and Shrimp Biryani (not pictured because we were enjoying the food so much and forgot) The Garlic Naan was heavenly -- it was hot and totally seemed like it was made to order. It had the perfect amount of garlic and the texture was nice and crispy on the bottom, so it had structure but fluffy and light on the top. The Chicken Tikka Masala was one of the best I've ever had! It had a great balance of tomato and cream. It also had so much depth in flavor with the spices. Most of the time I feel like Chicken Tikka Masala is too creamy, or too tomato-y but this one hit the spot and checked all my boxes. The Mango Lassi was really unique and I haven't had one like this before. It was very refreshing and not too thick. It was super tart which I loved!! Not pictured because we were too excited was the Shrimp Biryani: it was packed with flavor and super tasty. I'm a wimp though when it comes to spice so it was a little too spicy for me personally but that didn't deter me from thoroughly enjoying the dish. It came with yogurt that had a great balance of flavor. Other yogurts I've had have been pretty plain but this one was soooooo good and added another delicious layer to the dish. The staff is also so sweet! The owner came to check in with us and made sure the food was tasty. The vibes are super wholesome.Overall, Mumbai Chowk is my top Indian restaurant in the Bay, and I will definitely be coming back and trying more items on their menu.

Food was very good and a different taste and style of Indian food. Still very authentic and full of flavor. The servers and other team were very friendly and polite. Also very helpful with recommendations. It was very quiet when we went and probably a really good time for us so we didn't have to wait long. Clean place and pleasant vibe.

Stopped by here on a weekday evening for dinner. Parking was easy as it has its own lot. We ordered a few appetizers including bhel puri and sabudhana vada. The vada was my favorite! Amazing crispyness and loved dipping it in the sweet sauce it came with. We also got the infamous butter chicken and it didn't disappoint! Everything we ate was perfectly spiced with a variety of flavors to enjoy. Truly felt like a local authentic spot in all aspects. We can't wait to come back!

This review summerizes two visits - first visit we ordered Sabudana wada for appetizer - Crispy, crunchy on the outside, well flavored soft inside.Next, we got chole bhature - Western india style chole and puffy, hot, not oily, just the perfect texture of bhature. Next, we got quintessential Mumbai food combination - dal fry, rice and bombil fry. Now let me express the gratitude for finding this specific fish. There are not many places in the bay area where you will find this fish.. This fish is very specific to Indian Ocean. So people that want to try new fish dish or want to reminesce old times from India, highly recommend this dish. Dish is well made, with spice mix marination, perfect frying, comes out crispy on the outside and well flavored soft, steaming inside. As we ordered this the owner came out to chat with us as this was a very specific order that only people from that region will get. Very friendly, amicable, talkative chap. On second visit our friends joined us as well - They got dahi puri and bombil thali - They were really happy. This time we got - bangda (mackarel) fry thali and pomfret thali. Bangda fry you get two whole mackarel. For pomfret - One whole good size fish. Each of the accompaniments were also well done. Like cabbage and peas subzi reminded of the lunch homes in Mumbai. The fish curry was tasty, it could use more flavor though. Solkadhi (sour cherry, coconut milk, spices infused digestive probiotic drink), Sukat (preserved pickled fish or shrimp), gulab jamum were excellent! The Rotis were hot, steaming well buttered, soft!! Overall, a must try for western india seafood. For people that say all Indian food taste the same - Go try this different type of Indian food. We finished off the meal with some chai.
