- Price point: $$ (~$50pp)- Cuisine: Indian- Ambience: located in the heart of Palo Alto, right on University Avenue; inside was spacious and ordinary- Food review: 1. Malabari Prawn in Sourdough- 7/10 (we were most excited about this one, it was shrimp cooked in coconut milk, served inside a sourdough- cute presentation, the combination of shrimp and coconut can rarely go wrong. But this one lacked any flavor, shrimp was chewy, and overall, it was super disappointing)2. Garlic Nan 9.5/10 (quite good, honestly the only thing we liked here)3.Mango butter Chicken - 6/10 (super sweet, if anyone like their chicken sweet then they probably would like this, we didn't)4.Lychee Drink 4/10 (this was the worst, super sweet, and didn't get any flavor of lychee)5. Smoked Ricotta Galouti 6/10 (super bland, supposed to have smoked flavor, we didn't get any)6. Baked Mishti Doi with apricot 8/10 (This was the only thing other than garlic naan that was good. Texture was similar to Bengali mishti doi.)Overall, we went to Sanjeev Kapoor's restaurant with a lot of expectations but were disappointed. None of the items hit the mark, the flavors seemed off, and overall, the experience was average at best.WE WILL NOT BE BACK!Recommend for: Probably non-Indians who want to try mild Indian dishes, but not recommended for Indian palette.

I grew up watching 'Khana Khazana', so I was excited to try this restaurant, especially with its promising Fusion Indian menu. I came here with my team and left feeling underwhelmed. The ambiance was great, and the service was good, but the food was a mixed bag. We ordered a lot, but here's what stood out: 1. The chicken starter was good, but the edamame pani puri had no real trace of edamame--I expected some crunch but got none. 2. A paneer-based curry had very little paneer, which was surprising for a high-end restaurant. 3. The *Shaam Savera* was outstanding--easily the best dish of the night. I'd come back just for this. 4. The desserts were a major disappointment. The 'mishti doi' was just sweet yogurt, which was embarrassing since I had hyped it up to my colleagues who had never tried 'mishti doi' before. They weren't impressed by the gulab jamun either. I usually don't return to a restaurant I'd rate 3/5, but I'd come back just for the *Shaam Savera* with their breads--nothing else.

We celebrated my birthday here today! First, super nice when we went with two extra people. They welcomed us with warmth. Our kids were very active and they wereVery Polite with them. We ordered yummy appetizers and were very impressed. We loved the tacos, paneer tikka and the chana kabobs. The dal and paneer were delicious yet not over creamy! Even afterFew hours, i don't feel over fed. The desserts wereSuper delicious. We ended up ordering 3 gulab jamuns. Our server Vishal very nice and courteous with our request. He even gotA delicious cheesecake for birthday wishes. It's a very clean restaurant and very organized. I do wish they will add more art of India or sanjeev kapoor's cooking

On our second try, we finally made it to this place. The first time, we walked in only to be told there was no availability, so we made a reservation for our next visit. The decor and ambiance exuded subtle elegance and understated charm. We were promptly greeted and seated by the gracious hostess. Our drinks were a mixed bag: their take on the Negroni was passable, while the other drink--something with curry leaf, though the exact name escapes me--was nothing to write home about either. Our first course featured the jackfruit avocado taco, which turned out to be a pleasant start. For the main event, we went with the Shyam Sevara and the Tellicherry pepper chicken, accompanied by garlic naans and cheese kulchas. Unfortunately, none of these dishes left a lasting impression. Given that this restaurant is helmed by the renowned TV chef Sanjiv Kapoor, we expected a lot more flavor. Coupled with the fact that it's a bit on the pricey side, I'm not sure I'll be returning.

We came here for Diwali and the restaurant itself is beautiful. We really enjoyed all the appetizers and main dishes with the exception of the dessert which we felt tasted not much different than a chobani yogurt compared to how good the rest of the food is.For appetizers we got the ancho paneer tikka, edamame panipuri, and chili chickenFor mains we tried the burrata truffled saag, tellicherry pepper chicken, shaam savera and the baby lamb chops. For dessert we got the baked mishti doi which we didn't find flavorful there were supposed to be apricot tones but it tasted more like a thick yogurt not a dessert.

I've wanted to eat here ever since they opened and finally had the chance for a quick bite and drink and the food, drink and service was wonderful! I had Varki' Chicken with Salli from the "small plates" selection. The chicken was tender and moist - the menu says creamy but it's more from a marinade perspective. The silver leaves are indeed edible :) comes with a little salad and salli potato sticks. They also made me a "test" cocktail with mezcal and Jaan Paan Indian liqueur topped with a smoked kumquat - wild!I'd like to make a comment about the cuisine and menu in general:This is not standard Indian cuisine- it's called modern Indian cuisine but there's more to it. There are some spicy dishes but it's not all about that but about creative yummy dishes served by the nicest and most knowledgeable staff in their beautiful spacious dining room. Come by, have a drink and a small plate at the bar and you'll plan your next visit right then!

Came by for dinner the other night and it was a mediocre experience. Made a reservation online and our table was ready upon arrival. Khazana is located on University Ave and took over the former restaurant, Joya. The restaurant features a lounge area, a full bar, along with a dining room. Dining is available indoors or in the parklet.Parking is available on the street or in city-owned garages. Our server did a phenomenal job of suggesting items as well as upselling both dishes and beverages.Started off with the panipuri which was supposed to be some fusion dish to the traditional dish. I loved the contrast in textures and flavors for this small plate. The paneer tikka felt bland despite being marinated in spices. The shrimp small plate consisted of 3 mega gigantic shrimps which were definitely cooked to well done... Flavors were decent and this came with a couple dipping sauces and some type of slaw. For the main course, opted for the lamb shank which came over a bed of thick curry. The lamb shank was served well done and towards the drier end of the scale. The curry did help.As other diners had noted, many of the dishes came out lukewarm. This was especially notable with the naan...Ordered one of each of the desserts and they were unique although I think Ettan across the street has much more unique desserts and entrees.~$100/head after tax and gratuity for dinner.

Went for weekend dinner with a couple of friends. Overall pretty underwhelmed by food and disappointed by bad service. Appears to be a wannabe fashionable restaurant which didn't invest in food or service. No point going back again.Pros1. Good ambiance. They clearly spent money in making it fashionable, similar to other eateries in the area. A bit on the louder side, but that's probably expected in the bay area.2. Food is not bad. Not the tastiest north Indian food in the south bay, but good enough for a sit-down dinner. They do fusion twists on north Indian tastes, which are either good (e.g. Mango cocktail), or bad (e.g. cheese naan).Cons1. Service is terrible. For a $$ restaurant charging more than $50 per person, this is outright one of the worst services I'ver experienced. Initially waited for a waiter to show up, but then had to ask for a glass of water. Someone showed up, after we asked a server, to take our drinks order, but then they vanished. Finally, we decided that the service runs like a Indian railway canteen. We started waving at waiters and servers until someone came over to take our food order.No-one checks on you about the food. We had to wave again to order desserts. 2. Overpriced. This probably relates to bad service and ok food. Definitely over-priced for what you get. Much better food and service in other Palo Alto / Mountain View downtown Indian restaurants. And if you want fancy, try out Burlingame / San Francisco.
