I only found out about this restaurant because my Chinese father-in-law has been working nearby and he's stopped by for lunch many times. They have lunch specials M-F, you know dishes with rice included. We came on a Saturday so there wasn't any lunch specials so we had to order by each entree. *The sweet and sour pork - the pork was fried so fresh and crispy! *Father-in-law's all time favorite is the beef and bitter melon chow fun *the shrimp and egg gravy chow fun was delicious. For the Cantonese speakers out there - you can taste the "wok hay" (*dried green beans were good also Service is always good according to my father-in-law and the day we ate here too. They were also very fast. Wifey can't wait to come back to this hole in the way Chinese restaurant in Hayward!

Came here on Friday, 7/5. It was way too hot in the bay to cook at home. We had 17 people in our entourage (kids and adults). Wasn't busy because of the holiday weekend. Service was friendly and fast. I always based my reviews on two dishes and this place knocked it out of the park.1-Beef Chow Fun (dry style)-Dry is the only way to eat this dish. The beef was full of great flavor. The noodles were fresh and chewy. Great consistency and that "wok hei" flavor. Super Yummy.2-Chicken Fried Noodle (HK style)-Great blend of crispy and non-crispy noodles. The veggies and chicken tasted great and so did the flavor of the noodles.Other dishes we ordered were sweet and sour pork chops (tasted great), honey walnut prawns (the walnuts were great), steamed fish (done well), fried rice (could use more eggs but OK), crispy chicken wings (very good). They gave us some veggie eggrolls (not my thing, would prefer the pork or chicken version). To start everything, we had the West Lake Beef Soup. It had good flavor and everyone at the table enjoyed it. Not my go to soup because they use parsley in it. I would have preferred the Seafood with Tofu soup. For dessert, they gave us sweet oranges and fortune cookies. My brother ordered the raspberry iced tea and it was a splash with him.Edit: I originally posted this for the wrong restaurant by the same name in Rio Vista, CA.

I grew up eating their food, and whenever I drive through Hayward, I always make it a point to stop and enjoy a meal. The flavor has remained consistent over the years; every plate is packed with taste and served beautifully. Be sure to visit and support this local hidden gem--you won't regret it!

Had this place twice. First time was maybe 4 months ago, then again today. For some reason, this second time was a HUGE difference in that the food was below average. Fishy crab, dry duck that didn't taste right (we get duck all the time), this tasted overly greasy and like it had been re-cooked or something. The salt and pepper pork ribs had too much breading, more fried breading than there was pork. The Mongolian beef was mostly onions and barely any beef. Fried rice tasted stale and dry, and lastly, the egg drop soup was bland and tasted mostly watered down. While the staff was friendly, the food is the reason we unfortunately won't return for a third time.

Hong Kong restaurant is a Hayward establishment for excellent Chinese food. One of the best for sure! I've been coming here since 2001. Last night I had the chance to revisit this "legendary" spot, only this time decided to do take out. Just like I how remembered. The hot and sour soup was on point (contains pork), the chow fun was cooked to perfection and not overly greasy. Their honey walnut shrimp was top notch. However there was something missing but I can't describe what that was. Maybe it'll come back to me when I keep ordering from them. Definitely a must try for great Chinese food. Recommendation: try their wor wonton soup (my favorite)

Visiting my bro in Hayward and we were in the mood for HK style Chinese food, we've been to Cecil's Burger near it many times and I've noticed the generic sounding restaurant close by. Who knew it would hit the spot perfectly and be exactly what we were looking for. Our whole order was ready in 15 minutes!Orange Chicken: Beats Panda Express Orange Chicken which I use as a benchmark. Nice and cripsy outside and tender chicken inside.Beef Chow Fun: The exact standard beef chow fun we wanted, no fancy meats or weird ingredients, just noodles, beef, bean sprouts, and green onions. Was not super oily like other places and the noodles were perfect and not mush that falls apart.Honey Walnut Shrimp: I can't even fault them for being low on walnuts and only including 3-4 walnuts for our order. The shrimp was amazing and it made me hungry the whole drive home smelling it.Combination Crispy Noodles: My wife liked it but the noodles came super tiny almost like grains of rice, we've never seen it like that before but it made it easier to eat with a spoon.Loved the takeout simplicity as well, our order came in one up-cycled cardboard tray that was honestly easier to handle and less prone to spilling than a ton of plastic bags.

Always on the hunt for honey walnut prawns and I have to say this restaurant's version is a local favorite because I like for the sauce to have that hint of citrus to balance out the sweetness. I've been back a few times and tried a couple other things but I always get the honey walnut prawns. My other favorite dish here is the Mongolian beef, but you can see from the pictures, it's made with inconsistent quantities of chili pepper flakes. Since I'm weak sauce, I like it less spicy and will have to remember to request it as such. A homey, affordable, family run Chinese restaurant serving all the classics and offering very kind service.
