I've been a big fan since I was little when the original Hing Lung was in Chinatown sf. When they reopened this location we been coming every weekend highly recommend their fried chicken wings, fresh liver and meat ball congee, pork and preserved egg congee. We always pair the congee with their fried bread and fried donut (the sweet one)

Update: It's been a while since dining here. I heard from a few friends that the food has changed and most likely there is a new chef. We took a chance thinking how bad can the food be? Well, some dishes were not good, while others were edible, but not like it used to be. HK-STYLE BEEF CHOW FUN ~ This dish lacked the smokey flavor (wok hay) and color. The bean sprouts were barely cooked like it was an afterthought or they almost forgot to put them in. Disappointing. 3/5BRAISED PORK AND PRESERVED MUSTARD GREEN IN POT ~ The pork was so dry, it was almost inedible. Actually, I took one bite and left the rest on my plate. The meat used was too lean! Usually, it's fatty and tender, so it'll melt in your mouth. Maybe this dish just needed to be cooked even longer or they need to buy better meat. Won't order this again! 1/5 SEA COCONUT CONCH STEWED CHICKEN SOUP ~ It's soup! You really can't screw this one up? It tasted okay. It wasn't salty, but flavorful and it tasted clean. 4/5STIR-FRIED MINCED PORK WITH STRING BEANS IN XO SAUCE ~ This dish was okay, though it was a bit salty and some of the beans seemed overcooked. The pork could have been chopped up a bit more. 3/5SAMPAN CONGEE ~ A bit bland, but it's ok for congee. Hing Lung is known for their congee, so it was expected to be decent. 4/5CLAYPOT RICE WITH ASSORTED CURED MEATS ~ This dish takes an extra 30 minutes to prepare. However, it came to us without the crispy rice on the bottom. We asked them to heat it more so the rice would be crispy, like it should be. They said the rice would burn and it should be fine as is. Because we insisted, they proceeded to check whether it needed to be cooked longer. The rice was white on the bottom and not even light brown! They took it back for another 15-20 minutes. After it was cooked more, it was better, but I think if the chef added some oil to the pot before putting in the rice and meat, it would have crisped up the rice quicker and it would have tasted better too. By the time this was back on our table, we were done with dinner. 3/5It's unfortunate to update my review and take away 2 stars. I would only come here for their congee. But I can make my own congee at home, if I had all the ingredients. I think I'll stick to their San Bruno location where the food has been consistently good and satisfying. Sadly, I won't be coming back to this location unless things change.

Hing Lung is still one of the most authentic Hong Kong-style Chinese food in San Francisco. I've been going there since their original location in SF Chinatown. So why only 3 stars? Overall, I was happy with my recent visit. Food was good, the dining experience was enjoyable, but when it came to the bill...!!! I presented my credit card and the waitress told me that there will be a 3% charge for using a card. Many places only accept card if your bill met a certain minimum, which is certainly understandable, especially with mom & pop stores, to implement this policy since the credit card fees are quite high and it means they basically make little to no profit if you have a small bill. But charging for simply using a credit card is outrageous. There was no forewarning. Merchants are obligated to display all possible additional charges at the register or any place where it's viewable by the patron, such as on the menu. I didn't see any on the menu; but I admit, I don't know if it appeared at the register since I was dining in the restaurant and there was no reason to walk up to the register. I learned today that what they did was wrong. Effective July 1, 2024, California passed California Senate Bill 478, which made it "...illegal to surcharge credit card transactions in California...California businesses are required to disclose the total price for goods and services upfront to maintain transparency and protect consumers from being surprised by additional fees when it's time to pay."

My fiance and I this morning wanted to have some Chinese during brunch today (since it was like around 11am). We've seen this spot having wonton noodle soup which was what my fiance was craving for the past couple days, so we were really stoked. When we arrived and saw the menu, our eyes widen on how big the menu is! My fiance changed his mind and got the minced pork lo mian, and since I wasn't feeling the greatest recently I decided to try their congee. We loved everything that we ordered, we even mumbled to each other while we were eating," everything we've ordered has been fire." We both loved the fact the interior of the restaurant is very family style ambiance that we actually like it more than the dim sum spot next door. But it's just because we like the more homey feel! Obviously this spot has the typical Chinese service, which never bothers us and we always know that just means that the food will be delicious! We will definitely be walking back here sooner than later to try the rest of the menu!

Street parking can be hard but we were lucky to find one not too far away. It was busy on a Saturday evening with what seems like a lot of regulars. We were a party of 5 and they sat us at a table for 4 and added a chair on the end. Once we ordered, they moved us to a big table. We ordered way too much for 5 people. Ending up taking a lot home. Everything was very good. Except the veggie was a little too tough/mature. And the mixed mushroom with egg tofu was not mixed mushroom but only one type of mushroom. The egg tofu was very good with the broccoli. The bbq pork with chicken appetizer was good too. The bbq pork was so juicy and flavorful. Portions here are very big and prices are reasonable.

I love the hing lung in San Bruno. First time here got the E9 yellow chicken (ranch chicken) congee and E12 fish congee. 12.99$ each. Both have great flavor. Fish was smooth and flavorful, chicken was tender not dry and slightly salty. Loved the quality of taste here would come again 10/10.

5 star food. 3 star experience. Delicious authentic Chinese food. The Mapo Tofu is incredible. Salt and pepper pork - delicious. 5The restaurant is a little dingy. The service is a little slow. They prefer cash. They don't take Amex and charge a convenience fee for Visa MC. The place is always busy. If you can get past the look the food is well worth it.

Great place for congee, chow mein, & chow fun. Portions for the Hk beef chow fun was large. The chow mein was average since it wasn't crispy. Congee was hot and bubbling when it arrived to the table. Will try again for dinner.
