Guadalajara Grill

I DON'T BOTHER WITH YELP. In fact, I hate Yelp. So trust me when I say - this shit matters.I'm about 15 years late in posting this, but when I was a young(er) guy, freshly moved from the midwest to SF, I moved into the apartments behind Guadalajara Grill. I can't really put into words (and it's silly, really) how comforting it was to get to a point with the staff here when I called ahead and ordered the Cajun Shrimp Burrito and even before a few words in, they knew it was me. I've been chasing this dragon ever since. I live in San Diego now and STILL to this day have never had a burrito as good as this.I haven't been back to the Bay in ages, but when I think back on my days of being a single, living by myself, trying to find myself and growing up - this is a meal that's firmly tattooed in my brain as "this is what great latin food tastes like in CA". And lucky me - it was walkable. Not being overly sensational - but that meal that I got over and over during that time in my life will forever be a death row meal candidate. I miss San Mateo for this place.

We ordered here as my friend's last meal on his way back home to Switzerland. Since he was going on a long flight all the taco trucks were out. We had previously gone to a place in San Francisco. We were in a hurry so we go do one last run for peanut butter so I did a quick order on DoorDash.I was a bit disappointed to learn that each taco order was for one taco only. The online ordering for the meat said to select at least one. The maximum selection was two. So I incorrectly assumed that if you picked two types of meat, you would get two types of tacos. There was no clarification that it was one taco and I guess most places I've been to, when I order tacos, I usually get two. My fault, but at the very least there can be clarification.The price on Yelp says the fish taco is $3.50 which maybe that's what it was before inflation in 2020, but in 2025 on DoorDash, a single fish taco is $5.50. And it's not like you get all the trimmings - you just get two street taco-sized tortillas and some meat and some salsa that isn't evenly spread. On the bright side, the fish seemed fresh. The fish was kind of oily. I was a little grossed out by the orange oil.A single Regular taco is $3.75. Flavor was good. A single Super taco is $5.99. Super taco was pollo asado and al pastor (and the meats we assume was mixed but it didn't seem like either meat). It was O.K. At the very least, there was chips and salsa included which from the ordering page did not look like it would be. The salsa was pretty good - it has a nice roasted flavor. I also ordered horchata which was OK.It's an unfair comparison, but I definitely thought my meal in the Mission for $17 was a better deal; there was more food and the flavors were better.While I think the food was O.K. and it's definitely better than other places in San Mateo, I'm still on the look-out for my go-to Mexican place to bring visitors to.

They make the best Shrimp Tacos! The shrimpies are grilled perfectly, juicy and plump. Mexican cheese and cilantro melted on top, so good. I also order the Super Quesadilla with grilled chicken, awesome! They leave it on the grill long enough to get browned and a crunchy, love it! Definitely give them a try!

Yelp led me to this neighborhood gem on a visit to the Bay Area two years ago so had to go back. The breakfast burrito is still excellent. Eggs, pinto beans, chorizo and salsa. Top with a little salsa verde and enjoy.

Been coming here since I was in middle school, and I'm in my thirties now. It's still our go to taqueria. The food has been consistent all these years. Reasonably priced. I usually order the enchrito burrito. So delicious and such a big portion. Meals come with chips and they have a small salsa bar.

A nice cozy little place, as a little salsa bar fountain drinks, and a cooler that has more beverage choices. The staff was friendly and the food came out fairly quick. My Carnita super burrito had good flavor. I just wish that the ingredients were distributed better. The Carne Asada plate was the choice of my girlfriend, I did try the beans and the meat and both tasted really well. I would definitely return here.

I've loved the food, the friendly service and the simple, clean, efficient restaurant for decades! Delicious food - especially the Enchirito (smothered) Burrito with shredded chicken. Excellent, plentiful, and consistently delicious, all these years.

Hits the spot. Solid joint with good nachos, burritos. What you expect when getting Mexican food

It's a great restaurant for breakfast or dinner the food is the best around very fresh I enjoy eating there two to three times a week I like the breakfast it the best

Good food and service, very attentive and friendly.We came in after a soccer game, our kids were very hungry, by the time we left they were so happy with the food. I'm glad we came here and will definitely come back.
