SERVICE- located in a parking lot on the intersection of el Camino real and San Tomas - parking available for around 10 cars- seating provided in heated tent- food served as it is ready rather than all together in one order- our buzzer was not working so the worker called to us from his truck window- good for a casual mealMENU- andhra style South Indian food- vegetarian and vegan options available- well priced ($10 for a combo)FOOD- tawa bonda (9/10): small fried rice and lentil balls sautéed in spices and green chili. I really liked this dish. It makes a great snack or shareable between a few people. The bonda are fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside, even after being coated in spices. Highly recommend trying this one. - masala mirchi bajji (8/10): six pieces of fried green chili filled with potato mixture and topped with onions, carrots, and peanuts. I had not seen mirchi bajji made like this but it was definitely a must try. The chili is not super spicy, more like a jalapeño. I liked the addition of carrots for sweetness and peanuts for a nutty crunch. - hyderabadi bandi dosa (5/10): dosa filled with upma and a special masala powder. This was my least favorite of the dishes we ordered but mostly because I am not a huge fan of using upma as the filling for a dosa. If the same flavors were used in a potato masala I would have liked it more. - special flying idli (6/10): mini idli cooked in a spicy gravy. The flavors in this are a nice blend of chili and warming spices. While I liked the concept, the idlis fell apart due to the moisture. - combo 1 (8/10): 2 idlis, 1 vada, and 6 punugulu. If you want a no frills way to try a few things from the menu, get this. Each of the components are exactly what you would expect. *all dishes served with peanut chutney, ginger pickle, and mixed vegetable sambar*WOULD I GO BACK?Yes! The food was very flavorful and I liked how they had a heated seating area

Flying Idlis is the ultimate destination for authentic Andhra street food and more. The menu is a delightful showcase of traditional flavors, making it a must-visit for food lovers. The Mini Idlis with Podi are absolutely mouthwatering, packed with just the right amount of spice. The Hyderabadi Bandi Dosa is perfectly crispy and flavorful. The Poori Chana Masala is creamy and comforting, offering a burst of flavors in every bite. The Irani Tea is a soothing, must-try addition to your meal. The Andhra-style Pani Puri is tangy and spicy, while the Tawa Bonda is golden, crispy, and bursting with flavor.Flying Idlis not only serves incredible food but also provides super friendly service and plenty of seating, making it a perfect spot to enjoy your meal. Whether you're looking for a quick snack or a hearty meal, this food truck has it all. A definite must-visit for food enthusiasts in Santa Clara and beyond!

Brrr! It was 52° outside, but we wanted to eat somewhere and the name of this place always makes us smile. So we ventured out to it.Our orders: Mirchi Bhajji, Pesarattu Dosa and Combo. The Mirchi came piping hot. Plump, battered and deep-fried chilis. The batter had a little dusting that left a delicious salty taste on the fingers. The dosa and combo both come with a ginger chutney, peanut chutney and sambar. I especially liked the peanut chutney. Nice change from the coconut version the Karna-takans are known for (hi wife! ). Inside joke. The dosa came as a square packet rather than a cylinder. I like the packet format. The combo is a vada, 2 flightless idli and 6 pongulu. All nicely hot. I'm not vegetarian so I expected to be hungry after but I'm nicely full. This is a food truck with several tables outside, but we sat in the car given the chill There was a chaat food truck across the lot and my wife had some pani puri there. She said it was good. I passed on it because of the temperature. I'll be back and take better pics. We were hungry.

Tried them yesterday for the first time. Interesting concept to find South Indian food truck in the bay area. Liked the following items- Ghee mini idli: soft and well made- Poori: crispy and generous portion size. 3 pooris- onion Uttappam: well made good texture- Irani chai: tasting this after a long time- Peanut chutney: deliciousWasn't a fan of their upma pesarattu or their sambar, but that's just me and my taste. Will definitely try them again when in the area

We were really craving punugulu and happened to come across a food truck in Santa Clara, right at the corner of El Camino Real and San Tomas Expwy, near The Off Ramp Bicycle Shop. The great thing about this spot is that there is plenty of space and parking available. They have a few tables with chairs and a couple of high tables where you can stand and eat.We decided to order Punugulu, Poori with Channa Masala, and Pizza Dosa. We started with the Poori and Channa Masala, which turned out to be a delicious combination. The Channa Masala was flavorful and came with three not-too-oily Pooris. Next, we tried the Pizza Dosa, which had a nice homemade pizza taste but was quite greasy. The Punugulu were also good, with a sprinkle of chaat masala on top. The only downside was the sambar and peanut chutney, which didn't taste good and affected the overall flavor. However, the ginger chutney was okay, and we managed with that. Overall, it's a nice spot with tasty food at affordable prices.

We just had food from Flying Idlis. We have been wanting to come for a long time and finally made it. We ordered ghee idli, fried idli, pani puri, sambar vada, onion pesarettu, paneer pakoda and irani chai. All of them were delicious and authentic. We enjoyed the sambar and chutneys as well - peanut chutney and ginger chutney. It wasn't crowded and the service was pretty good. - everyone is friendly and brings food to our table. All the food items were fresh and hot! Will definitely come back to try their poori and other menu items.

The veggie review! Tried the truck twice.Really like the tiny soft idlis, the sambhar, and the chutneys. The dosa was good too. Will try the Irani chai next time. Would definitely stop by again. The location is actually the corner of San Tomas and El Camino, and not Lawrence.

The best dosa, sambhar and chutney I have had in a long long time. Was stunned that a food truck could put out such high quality food. My only regret is gobbling up the food before I could take a photo. It was quite simply delicious and sublime!!Went last night at closing time and they were still kind enough to keep their truck open and make a delicious ghee podi masala dosa for me and my son. Looking forward to returning soon and trying their idlis.
