We arrived, as a group of 4, on a Sunday at 5:30 PM, and were seated immediately. There was no wait, and the restaurant wasn't too busy at the time.Due to the narrow layout of the restaurant, it may not be the best place for larger parties. It, however, is comfortable for smaller groups.~What We Ordered~- Large Signature Suancai & Fish + extra basa fish: The broth was well balanced, with no spice, no sourness, and a pleasant mala tasting hint. The fish was tender and cooked very well. It comes pre-selected with sweet potato glass noodles and celtuce, which I personally didn't love because other broth choices offered you add-ins. I would have liked to customize it more. We also added yuba, but the serving size felt a little small.Comes with 2 bowls of rice. - Wild Pepper Seasoned Wood Ear Mushroom: I really liked this! Made with green peppercorns and giving it that mala kick. A definite win.~Portions & Pricing~For four people, we ordered a bit too less than usual. Two large fish portions would have matched us perfectly, but alas, it seemed to be a miscalculation on our end.It seemed that the cost of the principal meal was acceptable, however, the sides (such as yuba and additional fish) offered seemed disproportionate to the value provided in regards to the quantity served.

I took my dad here for lunch and he absolutely loved this spot! They specialize in Sichuan style suancai fish soups. We ordered a large size signature suancai & fish pot and it was so delicious! It came with snakehead fish slices, veggies, and wide potato noodle. It was really fragrant and more than enough for two people. They also give you unlimited rice! My favorite topping was the wide potato noodle, it was so chewy and soaked up the sour broth perfectly. The service was great, they were really attentive to anything we needed. I'll definitely be back!

So yum! Just tried this place for the second time and did not disappoint. Flavor is on point. Many flavors to choose from. Serving size is plenty. They have delicious side dishes too and great customer service. Lin as so patient. She explained the different dishes and was so sweet too. I'll be coming here often. Also, clean eating space. Can't ask for more.

So excited to try this place!! We came around 1-ish on a Sunday, and we did have to wait maybe 20 minutes to get seated. iI's not very big inside, but there is a Yelp waitlist! There's quite a few options you can choose from, but I got the scallion-infused sauerkraut fish soup since it was one of the non-spicy options Each order comes with rice and two side dishes, so I picked tofu and lotus root. Quite a large serving size - we all had leftovers, which was still delicious a day later. Such a delicious and comforting meal for colder days, I'll definitely be coming back!

I've never tried this type of dish before but I really enjoyed it actually. They have exclusively fish soups/stews. I got the tomato broth which was very tasty and comforting. Each set comes with rice and your choice of 2 items that come in your broth. I opted for enoki mushroom and tofu. Overall a good value and worth a try.

Aside from the waiter not placing our order correctly (ordered wrong bowl size for one of the items). This place is a good entry for those who have never had Chinese sour fish soup before. I highly recommend the lemon sour (yellow colored) soup. Perfect for those who don't want anything overwhelming or spicy. The suancai was also very good but could've been less salty. The chewy sweet rice cake was good. I am surprised a lot of their appetizers are on the sweet side. Not expected but it's probably to accompany all the food they serve which is strong in umami flavor. The issues were from the rice. You default get a free 2nd bowl of rice with every M size soup purchase. (L size gets you 2 refills) the rice was hard, and cold. Rice you should be using for fried rice, meaning it was probably leftover. Not a problem but it didn't sit well with the soup. The refill was better, I could tell they freshly cooked it and it was HOT. Otherwise, this place was alright.

Sauerkraut fish soup is something I didn't know I needed in life until my recent visit at Fish With You. This restaurant chain has over 2000 establishments worldwide, and I can definitely understand its popularity. We ordered the Green Szechuan Pepper and Fish & Golden Soup Suancai and Fish. Both great soups, but my favorite out of the two is the Golden soup. The Green Szechuan has good flavor, but it's a challenge avoiding the peppercorn as it's a bit overbearing -- losing the flavor of the soup and moreso of just me getting a numbed tongue lol. The Golden soup is a hot and sour soup. I also enjoyed the basa and snakehead fish options. The workers were really friendly and accommodating. Rice comes free with the soup and you can refill as many times as you'd like. The only thing I'll say is the soup pot is not as hollow as you think, but still good portions of food.

My wife and I stopped by Fish With You right when they opened, and there wasn't a single person in line for a table. Ordering is done via a QR code on the table, so once you're ready, you can place your order without needing to flag anyone down. We debated whether to share a bowl of soup or get our own, but ultimately decided to share the small signature spicy fish soup. I'm so glad we chose the small size because the bowl was absolutely massive! The included bowl of rice was enough for the two of us to share.By the end of the meal, we were completely stuffed. In hindsight, I probably could've skipped ordering the side sausage. While the sausage was tasty, it might throw you off if you're only familiar with the flavor of Taiwanese sausage--it's a bit different but still enjoyable. The soup itself wasn't overly spicy, but the Szechuan peppercorns add a tingly, numbing sensation if you eat them. The bowl included generous portions of white fish fillet, tofu, and two types of noodles. We also added lotus root for a small upcharge. The broth was incredibly flavorful. The first sip can feel a bit oily due to the oil floating on the surface, but mixing it together helps, and the richness becomes less noticeable as you go. Overall, it's a great spot for a hearty, flavorful bowl of Asian soup on a cold day.

Really happy there is a sauerkraut fish place open in San mateo. We've been several times already. It's great to eat in store or as take out. Come early or expect a wait, particularly in the evening. The service is prompt though, so the wait is usually not too bad even if you do have to wait. They have some non spicy options that are just as tasty. They have a non spicy sauerkraut version as well as a tomato soup base one! Both are very good! We always get the snakehead fish upgrade bc basa filet we can buy in the grocery store, and if we are going to be eating out, why not?! I really like the texture of the snakehead fish. For a large, you can choose 4 sides to add in. For a small, you can choose 2 sides. They already come with tofu, so no need to get that unless you really want extra tofu. Also, the celtuce hasn't been on the menu for the last few times we went. Seems like a nice healthy and tasty meal. :)
