This is an old fave of mine and many others who have been fortunate enough to have been around it. I ran into it in the early 2000s even before Yelp and Google were a daily thing. But I will have to do some clarifying here as their listing is confusing, as even my original review 15 years ago is not in the right spot. Many of us actually who tried to review this dive back then put it in the wrong listing. You see this company has 2 outlets in this town and they are both next door to each other, which makes it even more confusing. This strictly take-out version was the original and is a tiny hole-in-the-wall that is connected to an old but defunct theatre. This is cash only and everything will be put in a take-box if you order from this listing. They eventually opened up a sister sit-down restaurant next door that used to be a dive bar. That one if you eat inside, there will be nice tables and food will be on plates. That listing is called De Afghanan Kabob 'Cuisine'. So my original review and many others went to this listing as many of us did not pay too much attention to maps and addresses back then, maybe even still now. Hope that can clarify it for some peeps. Been in twice in that last 6 months and let's hammer out some current notes. First off still cash only and everything is about $10 more than about a decade ago when this place was truly poppin'. Menu is still the same super tight one page menu, the one next door may be a tad larger, more appetizers and more braised dishes. This one is strictly grilled meats and bolanis.Grilled Lamb Kabobs ($23/3.5*) This wasn't as solid as I remembered but maybe cuz they aren't as busy as they once were, maybe their inventory doesn't turn as fast. Some pieces of lamb were dry and mushy (overly marinated) while other pieces were fine. Still love their basmati rice and that potato/garbanzo salad, totally completes these meals.Kabob Trio ($25/5*) This still hits after all these years and I think that all 3 of these meats are more popular than the lamb that none of these have issues of sitting too long. And I've had maybe at least 25 other Afghan kabob meals and I gotta say that this is still my gold standard for grilled meats. Their marinade is bold and spicy very garlic forward. They cook the beef and chicken with great patience and skill that it is charred on the outside and tender and juicy on the inside. And their Chapli (ground meat kabob) is still the best I've ever had. The side salsa condiment has been super mixed lately. Sometimes it looks dead on like a Mexican pico de gallo with big hunks of tomato and onion while other times it is cucumber based. Their green chutney is still mandatory though adds a nice acidic zing to the nicely charred meats. And their Afghan bread is always fresh and abundant. So an overdue review for a more correct listing from someone who just figured it out after patronizing this joint for over 20 years. Go figure.

If you know, you know. The prices have adjusted up over the years, but they're still very reasonable. What I can really appreciate is 0 shrinkflation! Their portions and quality have not fallen off one bit. Big thanks to the owners and staff for keeping consistency over the years!!!We ordered a Chaplee kabob plate that came with a little salad, slice of jalapeno, potato salad, delicious rice with just the right amount of oil, and a piece of fresh afghan bread (with a small container of chutney). The kabob itself has a great texture and just a little chili. It's as good as it's always been. Tip, if you take it home, pop it in the air fryer to crisp it up a bit!The other order was for a tekka (beef) kabob and it came with the same sides. Also very delicious! To go only, but you can stop at the brick and mortar restaurant next door if you want to eat in.I won't wait so long next time to visit!

Been coming here with my wife almost 11 years. Overall great food love every dish. But this Friday was different. We always dine in to seat and enjoy our food. Restaurant was almost empty only one table with 2 persons. I was wow is empty most likely service will be soon.We always order our potato bolani this is the first time bolani came 45 min late and that's not all it came with all our food. Back then bolani only takes 15 min so we can eat it first and then our chicken and beef kabob . Plus I order a potato salad which never came im really disappointed on service. They are focused 100% on doordash or Uber eats they don't pay attention on walk in customers anymore hope they see this and keep it up but food Overall is great.

(5 out of 5)Perfect afghan food, this place is takeout only, but literally directly next door they have another restaurant that is dine in, in my opinion the takeout one has better food, ambiance is as good as you can get for a takeout place, but most take out places don't have a dime in option directly next door!! Service is exceptional, if you're looking for some fantastic afghan food, come here! And when you come tell them Rothyy sent

Went here as a recommendation by a friend as a great Afghan spot. I never really had this type of food but am familiar with the flavors, the grilled meats, the rice. I honestly did not think I would enjoy it because I have never had this type of cuisine before but I was surprised! Even if the meats were dry, they were complemented with the eggplant dish which gave it more texture. I really liked mixing everything with the yogurt which was an additional $1. Place was a bit hard to find in terms of where to park, so my recommendation is to go on Maple street then park at the back. Service was quick and they have you seated pretty fast. We sat near the warmer so I was especially happy since it was cold outside. I like the dark setting, but had enough light for you to see the food.I really like how the food here is very different from the food around the area. So if you're looking for a new / different cuisine to bring family / friends / tourists, this is the spot! Will always come back to this spot!

This used to be one of my favorite Afghan spots (first time 25 years ago) and would frequent it often. Consistent and delicious Afghan food with wonderful, welcoming service from the owner.Recent visit was just meh. Arrived attheir location after calling in my order (waited 25 mins)...walked in and just stares...I had to say "I'm here to pick up my order"...they seem confused and just say "we don't have it, did you call the right number?" ...then I realized I prob called their other restaurant 2 doors down. I walk there and again, just a stare and no offer of assistance, no smile, nothing...then his native "bruhs" walk up to the door and it's hand shake, chest bumps and "salam"...*sigh*...chatting away. Finally the guy says "what did you order?!"...looks for the order and only then proceeds to cook the chapli. Doesn't say anything and I stand there for another 10mins...Fail! I should've just left! The younger men working at both locations were not helpful, approachable, and almost cold...Sure, food is good but with so many Afghan food options these days, I don't need to patronize a place that's doesn't value their customers equally. 2 stars for the food/reasonable pricing.

Overall great experience! There wasnt too many people coming in Wed 6pm. Ambience was good and waiters were attentive! We got: - butternut squash bolani: 4/5 flavor and crispness was pretty good but i didnt think it was a crazy stand out. Still good and definitely lighter than the potato bolani- triple kabob with brown rice 5/5: super fragrant and well seasoned! Meats and rice were cooked perfectly. The cucumber salad that came along was average, but nice way to cut the greasiness of the meats.

They need to have decent size of kabob pieces and list how many ounces of meat come w it. The portions have drastically shrunk and prices have increased. Having better customer service from servers. Not having servers come out w raw skewers of chicken standing over food saying the meat shrinks after cooking and risking salmonella contamination.

They do very scammy business practices. I ordered for pick up over the phone and was not told it was cash only. So, when I didn't come with cash I had to pay an extra $10 on card. Also, I've had an instance here where I sat down in the restaurant, and when I got home, I would find that I was charged for an extra kabob plate. I also talked to a friend who had the same experience once. It is very clear they try to "accidentally" take extra money frompeople.
