Ok, somehow this is my first time coming to Blue Plate and that was a BIG MISTAKE. Every single dish we got was perfection, I literally wouldn't change a thing. Octopus, notoriously hard to execute without being rubbery or bouncy, was cooked to perfection. No easy feat! The gnocchi with the succotash was so summery and fresh, the meatloaf was somehow delicate (!!!) the mozzarella-pluot-heirloom salad... just all perfectly encompasses California cuisine at its finest. They have a great wine list to boot, amazing service and also, there is no better back patio to enjoy the perfect meal! Thanks so much to all of the staff for making our visit so special. See you soon!

This place is great and reliable. Food is always delicious. The backyard seating is special. Staff is great. My only suggestion would be I'd love to see more specials on the menu to complement the consistently good menu.

Dined during sf restaurant week. Our favorite was the filet mignon bruschetta, it was so good! And really liked their desserts especially their key lime cake. Also liked their deviled eggs, meatloft and their friend chicken but thought they were okay. They have such a cute patio area which was beautiful in the evening, and wish i could dine in there sometime

Bummer we came back after a couple years and the food is similar but the service model has definitely fallen off. So uncoordinated, curt and ultimately made for a disappointing overall experience.Enjoyed the deviled eggs. octopus and burrata. Ordered the meatloaf, steak and 2 fried chickens. Got the meatloaf. A couple of minutes later the steak and a fried chicken... then an awkward 5 or so minutes later we got the other fried chicken with a lame halfhearted apology. Then, it was obviously right out the fryer so I would up burning the roof of my mouth off.Dessert was poor. Key like pie crust was like 1/2" thick making for a clunky sandy eating experience. Brownie sundae had like 4 little bits of brownie. Disappointing.About half way through the meal our somewhat nice server was replaced with a guy who's officious, loud and functional approach seemed like something out of the military. It was like they forgot they were running a service business. When you pay $300 for 4 people with only 1 alcoholic beverage, you expect to feel welcome, treated like a guest. Not at Blue Plate. It's like an unorganized factory for hit or miss food.

Meatloaf usually isn't something I think about or consider eating. Perhaps I'm just uncultured, but I've never even seen meatloaf on a menu before. I can't really explain it but there seems to be some sort of societal aversion to meatloaf... I think Blue Plate really changes that. It was a really busy weeknight so naturally, it was pretty lively and loud. I'm glad I made reservations. I never would have thought to associate the words moist and juicy with meatloaf, but there isn't any other way to describe it. The mashed potatoes and green beans are whatever, pretty bland to be honest. The deviled eggs were creamy and had a nice smoky finish. Smoked beef bruschetta was good as well. The lion's mane pappardelle was also a bit bland. I was excited to try lion's mane mushrooms, but I couldn't even tell there was any in the dish. Butterscotch pudding wasn't as smooth as I'd like, but the brownie sundae was good and not overly sweet. I think Blue Plate is really worth trying, obviously for the meat loaf but I've also heard good things about their fried chicken

Came here for SF restaurant week and the deal they offered was great. I had actually been here years ago and things haven't changed much, which is a good thing so they've remained consistent. We got here early knowing parking would be difficult. We were greeted at the door and seated right away. We sat inside so I couldn't fully see the outdoor area, but it looked really cute. When we arrived there were only a few tables that were occupied, but it definitely filled up fast. I would recommend a reservation if it's a Friday or Saturday night. We each ordered an appetizer, entree and dessert, so we could try a little bit of everything and it was all fabulous. The butternut squash risotto was rich, but tasted amazing. I would definitely recommend it. Amazing food and great service. Can't wait to come back.

We came by on a very busy Saturday night during restaurant week. The wonderful hostess directed us down the street to a bar to wait for our table. Food was promptly delivered, delicious and nicely portioned. We'll come back on a weeknight.

Absolutely LOVED Blue Plate. Came here before the Magic Patio show down the street (also highly recommend). The service was great and the food was sooo good. I loved the deviled eggs and meat loaf. The meat loaf! Great neighborhood vibe restaurant that's been around a while. Will definitely come back to support. Oh and the back patio is adorable!
