Bear Bitez

Wow- I'm the jerk writing the three-star review. I'm surprised how people love this place. I was interested in the hamburger because it was covered in a crust that reminded me of chicken pot pie (my three favorite things). My Yelp friend Annabelle says it is like an empanada, though I thought it reminded me of a crispy piroshky. Well, it was novel, and the crust was interesting, and I liked it, but I was unimpressed. The $11 burger is small, with two fresh but thin patties, and I could not taste the pickles, lettuce, tomato, cheese, or sauce, making it a little juicy but not at all saucy. The house-made chips are excellent and the service was good, but considering there are no french fries, no mainstream sodas, no refills, I won't be returning, especially with no inside dining options and a potential 20+ minute wait if they need to put more in the oven.This place kinda bitez.

Perfect little spot to grab (a not so quick) lunch. Burgers are heated to order so expect a 20 min wait for your food and on the day that I went, they more or less sold out of everything except their beef burger. All that said, I thought the beef burger was delicious - flavorful and filling despite it's deceivingly petite package. I feel like this is great value for your money and I'd happily go back and try more of the menu.

Hearing that this place is rank 14 among the top 100 burgers in America, as a burger enjoyer, we had to stop by!They do have a unique approach to their burgers that they make in house never frozen meats and veggies. When we went, they only had take out but there were some tables outside for us to enjoy our lunch. The service was friendly and efficient.We got the:1) Beef Bear Bitez Burger:-When I saw this burger I was IMMEDIATELY reminded of a pâté chaud or as Vietnamemes would know it as, bánh pâté sô except with sesame seeds on top.-The burger meat inside was nicely seasoned and flavored. It came out piping hot and fresh. A solid burger.-My only caveat is that I can ONLY compare this to a pâté chaud and it makes me wish that the pastry part was a bit more flaky and crispy and that the meat inside was just a bit more moist.-I can see the vision and I feel like if the burger approached this pinnacle of comparison in my mind then I would have fallen head over heels in love as I love all meat carb combos like this.2) Potato Salad:-It's definitely a bit more onion tasting and a bit more liquid-y than the thick potato salad that I'm used to, but it's not bad.-Definitely added another layer of flavor to enjoy along with our burger.-Not too sour or mayo tasting. The potatoes had the perfect texture and there was a good crunch from the onions as well. I don't mind stopping by again and trying their other burgers.

I came here before an event I had the same day. It's in an unassuming spot in Newark. There's plenty of parking and the storefront is easy to see. I went in and was greeted by the owner who was warm and nice. She mentioned what she had ready to come out. I decided to get the Beef burger combo with pink chips and a drink. I kinda wish she had the mac, but I didnt mind. The burger was good, it was cooked perfectly and the pastry was not dry at all. The craft sodas were good also. The impression for this place was number 1 the service. The food also is hella good. I will go back and try the mac if possible.

Must try: Beef burger, Mac n Cheese, Thyme Chips. You'll be in carb heaven. Order online or call in your order since each burger takes 25 mins to bake.

First time here. This has come up in my Yelp before but just hadn't made it here yet, until now. I didn't do my homework before coming (probably should have) but was pleasantly surprised the burgers that Bear Bitez serves is not your traditional burger patties where the meat is between bread buns.At Bear Bitez, the burgers are surrounded by puff pastry and baked. I ordered a beef and a veggie. I was only going to get the beef but the description of the veggie sounded tasty. I will eat half and half to see which one I like more. Why not try both? Life is too short not to.I was relieved to see it wasn't busy. It's the middle of my remote work day so I wanted to grab a fast but delicious meal. Upon entry, I was impressed this small establishment was SUPER. Its counter service and there are only 2 tables indoor and a picnic table outside. The lady behind the counter was very helpful in guiding me through the menu and offering suggestions for which sauces would be good. She even gave me chips on the house. So sweet and generous of her!I really enjoyed sampling both the veggie and beef. I thought the Mayo, ketchup, mustard on the beef and the ranch with some Siracha would be needed since I'm known to be a sauce girl and I enjoy them on my usual burgers. But, my first bite, I actually left them off because I wanted to taste the patty flavors. Honestly, I actually like it without any added sauces. The condiments took away from the actual burger. This is so unusual for me! Since I got a combo, I got the Mac n cheese and the potato salad to go with my meal. Ok. These little side dishes, along with the fact that the burgers are enveloped in puff pastry, really sets Bear Bitez apart from your usual burger joint! I don't think I can let go of the traditional burger repertoire, but the fact that the "mashed potato" salad and the Mac n cheese tasted homemade, gives extra credit to this joint. I love how "out of the box" different Bear Bitez is from the usual burger joint!I'd come back here. It might not be often since I still really enjoy my traditional burgers but, seriously, love your passion and new take on burgers, Bear Bitez! So glad your around to tickle foodie-dom! BRAVO!

It was my buddies birthday. This was going to be a great surprise. Even with our hectic work schedule I was able to get out on time. I was greeted with this. Starting to feel bummed, I called to see if Yelp lied to me or some other unforeseen circumstance. Their were a few rings and a pick up. The greeting was warm. The voice apologized for the closed doors but informed me of a catering order wiping out her inventory. So I took the dive and ordered what was available. My buddy, and a few others loved it. This is already one of my go to's. Just haven't had the chance to review it till now.

Amazing food. Now i know why this is one of best in the country.They bake fresh so either call in early or wait for them to bake it. Bear Bitez is a cute little place and you could tell their passion for putting out great tasting food. Service is hospitable, friendly, and appreciative.Simple clean interior, no clutter. I liked my Beef Burger, Thyme potato chips, & Craft Ginger Beer soda.It's good to see they expanded their menu with additional items.

Everything is made from scratch and it's delicious!Just had the beef Bear Bite and now I want to come back for something else. The house made chips are fantastic also.
