Came here for a birthday. Ordered their 8oz Filet, 18oz Rib-Eye, mashed potatoes, and broccolini. The whole meal was great. The steaks had a lot of flavor, and they for sure were dry aged. We got a chocolate soufflé for desert, which was also very good. And then they gave a complementary cotton candy. Overall the food was excellent. Service was good and fair. The wait time everyone else speaks of in their reviews were right. It does take a hour to get your food. If you're willing to wait the time for them to cook it, it's well worth the wait. Will be coming back again.

Wagyu def above average, but not 'sell-a-kidney' good. For that price, I expected to ascend to a higher plane of existence. As for the service? Meh. Average at best. For what they charge, I at least expected them to fake warmth better.

Honest Review: From a 5 star dining experience to a 1 star enragement where our server thought I was going to dine and dash like seriously, I can drop 2-3Gs if I wanted to easy but this ain't Vegas. My fam and I came around after Thanksgiving and we lucked out because there seemed to had been a cancellation for 5pm so I was able to book that immediately through Open Table and got us seated right on time for a party of 5 where we sat in a very nice area with the viewing of the open kitchen. We had the following items best I can remember:Hokkaido Milk Bread x2 (comes with a trio of butter very delicious)Smoked Short Rib x1 (falls right off the bone)Hokkaido Scallops x2 (perfectly seared and medium in the middle)Striped Bass x1 (for my daughter who enjoyed it)F1 Australian Wagyu Cross: Westholme 12 oz Ribeye x1 (was okay, had better)A5 Japanese Wagyu: 北海道 Hokkaido CHATEAU UENAE Japan x1 (marbled melts in your mouth)Truffle Fries x1 (loaded up)Mocktail x1 (I had it without ice and it seemed as though they made it for kid because all I had left to drink were a few sips; was only half full and I paid near $20 bucks for nothing)For the price and food, YES you most definitely need to try this steakhouse at least once because of the very limited and only restricted to season/time for those Japanese imported A5 Wagyu but other than that, you can go to other Steakhouses and try their specials as needed especially if you're gonna be spending 1G anyways; go have fun and explore other dineries. The reason for the 1 star review was because as we were getting to leave (surprise dessert was not served yet), I was approached by my waiter/server (I don't want to disclose names because we're in a Happy New Year in 2025 and I want them to keep their job but please DO BETTER next time, thanks) who was hovering over me like a hawk (I told them that I needed to put some coins in the parking meter, I was overdue by 5mins, in which was on the same block to the left of the building by the other restaurant less than 150ft away) BUT they were very adamant about me paying the bill 1st so I quickly gave them my credit card and sprinted to my vehicle to pay the parking meter before I get cited.I understand the reason being was my spouse took my daughter upstairs to use the bathroom and it was only my mother, my mother-in-law and I available to pay (they were not dressed as nice as I was so maybe they were judging my fam already assuming that they didn't have the money to pay except for me LOL what a DISGRACE they are to this establishment if it were true). And they made me felt as though I was targeted as a "Dine and Dash" suspect because I needed to PAY before exiting to feed the meter on my vehicle that was overdue.I kept my composure for the sake of my entire family and for own psyche because it was still the Holidays and I DID NOT wanted to make a big scene especially when my daughter is there, I have to show her face and be in character even though I was fully enraged.Sadly, because of what had happened, we will NEVER come back here! I will be spending my Gs at The Sea by Alexander's Steakhouse in Palo Alto where I am always treated with respect and dignity as a loyal paying customer!!!

Prices high. Salt salt salt on my steak. Service was great. The sautéed mushrooms rocked. Place was lively. I might return but I think the place is moving so it'll have to wait.

Came to Alexander's for restaurant week and enjoyed the experience! A 4 course meal came to $90 pp but we still felt compelled to add in some extras. We began with the Hokkaido milk bread with three butters. If you're looking for that flavor punch, the black sesame or yuzu butter will really meet that need but if you're seeking that more nuanced elevation, that wagyu butter was...chef's kiss. It had an unctuous beefy quality to it and was remarkably rich. We also shared the wagyu charcuterie platter. We all had our own favorites on the plate so it worked well for the group! For my restaurant week choices, I started with the wagyu rillettes, then the butternut squash soup, the steak frites, and a carrot cake. I liked the uniqueness of the rillettes but my favorite course may have been the butternut squash soup. It was smooth and creamy and I really enjoyed the addition of the roasted pepitas. For the main, I did add in a diver scallop and the bone marrow to my steak. The steak itself was just okay in my opinion. It lacked a crust and was a little light on seasoning (but the fries over compensated on salt). The marrow added a delightful beefy butteriness but the real star was really that scallop. Mine was cooked perfectly! When it came to dessert, I thought my carrot cake was pretty good! All the piped elements were delicious but the cake was just a hair bit dense for me.When it came to service, it was great. Staff was attentive and the sommelier helped us make a great choice for pairing. All in all, glad I tried the OG Alexander's, but if you want my true opinion, I think their "sea" option is far better.

I had such a pleasant time at the steakhouse. I got the butternut squash soup, the 8 ounce fillet with mashed potatoes and a Matcha crème brûlée for dessert. I'm not a big beef eater so I don't order steak too often but I figured since I'm at a steakhouse, I might as well. Tasted pretty good but I wasn't wowed by it. I think I should've gotten the fish option instead. However, the highlights for me were the soup and the dessert. They were both so good and so flavorful. I've never had a matcha crème brûlée before! Our service was really great and the servers were very friendly. Overall, a wonderful time and would recommend for any steak lovers.

**5 Stars: A Stellar Experience at Alexander Steakhouse!**We recently celebrated my wife's graduation from grad school at Alexander Steakhouse, and it was an extraordinary experience from start to finish. The moment we walked in, we were greeted by a sophisticated and welcoming atmosphere. The elegant décor and ambient lighting created the perfect setting for such a special occasion. The menu at Alexander Steakhouse is impressive, featuring a wide selection of prime cuts and unique dishes. We started our meal with the Hon Hamachi shots, which were a delightful burst of flavor--fresh, tangy, and beautifully presented. The bone marrow was another standout appetizer, rich and decadent, perfectly paired with toasted bread. For the main course, we opted for the 24-ounce Porterhouse, and it was cooked to absolute perfection. The steak was incredibly tender and flavorful, with a melt-in-your-mouth quality that truly sets it apart. The garlic mashed potatoes we chose as a side were creamy and packed with just the right amount of garlic flavor, complementing the steak beautifully. The wine list is extensive, offering an excellent selection of wines to pair with your meal. The sommelier was knowledgeable and helped us choose the perfect bottle to enhance our dining experience. What truly makes Alexander Steakhouse stand out is their impeccable service. The staff is attentive, professional, and genuinely passionate about providing a top-notch dining experience. They ensured that every aspect of our meal was flawless, from the presentation to the timing of each course.Dessert was the perfect ending to our meal. I highly recommend the chocolate soufflé, which was both decadent and light, a perfect balance of flavors and textures.Celebrating my wife's graduation at Alexander Steakhouse made the evening even more memorable. Whether you're marking a special occasion or simply indulging in a night out, this steakhouse offers an unparalleled level of quality and service. I cannot recommend it highly enough and look forward to our next visit.

I went here for one of my birthday celebrations recently and had a reservation here. It was on a Saturday around 8:30pm and the restaurant didn't seem too busy at that time.Once we got seated, we were quickly given our menu and a warm, moist towel to wipe our hands before ordering. Before the meals started coming, they surprised us with a small shot of Mushroom Consommé drink (it tasted like a mushroom soup). We ended up ordering the Yerba Buena Cocktail, Hokkaido Milk Bread, A5 Wagyu Charcuterie, Truffle Fries, Mashed Potato, Premium Prime 18 Ounce Ribeye, Japanese Miyazaki A5 Wagyu, Flavored Cotton Candy, Pistachio Honey Cake w/ Chocolate Drizzle, Wagyu-Fat Pananccio w/ Salted Caramel & Raspberry Patonbini. The Flavored Cotton Candy, Pistachio Honey Cake w/ Chocolate Drizzle, and Wagyu-Fat Pananccio w/ Salted Caramel & Raspberry Patonbini came in a set because it was part of the birthday dessert. All the food was very good, but some portions were smaller than what I expected. My favorite item from this entire meal was the A5 Wagyu Charcuterie. The variety of wagyu slices ranged from a wagyu with a more smokey flavor to a ham type of flavor. I love unique food items and charcuterie boards, so that was basically like a 2-in-1. The only issue I had were the mashed potatoes since it didn't taste that special. The mashed potatoes was like a thin purée type of texture and I tend to prefer a thicker consistency.I'd recommend this place! They sell a wide variety of items and many of the items includes some type of steak ingredient in it, which I felt it made it unique. The customer service here is very good too and I loved how they explained each item and the ambiance of this restaurant is very classy too. Some portion sizes here are a bit small though.

This review is on my dining experience at the new location at 165 O'Farrell. Unfortunately it was a drastically different experience in a bad way from my previous visits to the old Brannan location. Went from a beautiful open space restaurant to a small 20 table on a 3rd floor space with no bar. The food and service were both not up to par with the Alexander's brand. Didn't answer the phone for 3 attempts as we tried to inform them we would be 15 mins late. Table cloths had ugly wrinkles on every table. Like they had just been bought. Waiter Spilled wine across the table cloth on both pours. My A5 waygu came out cold to touch and waiters repeatedly came back to my table and pulled items without asking or excusing their reach. I mentioned that my waygu was cold and they immediately replaced it which was fine, but in the middle waiting for that new steak, the waiter came back to our table and said "I'll be taking that" and scooped up the old piece of steak without really any politeness or mention of the mistake. Felt very uncomfortable. No apology for the delay. No salt board or presentation or explanation of the waygu selection available. No cotton candy. Things we've had every visit in the past.Food was good but not amazing like before. Liquor menu came from the bar on another floor with that bars logo on the front. "Elements". Whiskey selection not what it once was. I don't often write reviews but I felt compelled because I've been to Alexander's like 15-20 times in the past decade or so. Many special occasions, birthdays etc. And I'm definitely not a hater but when I spend $500 on a dinner for 2, it's just as much about the experience as it is about the food. Overall I'd say for the food it was a step behind before but still good, service was 2 steps behind and ambience experience was 3 steps behind a usual 5 star experience at Alexander's. I kinda feel like i was baited and switched into paying for a 5 star experience for a 3 star restaurant with 4star food. Really sorry for the bad review, I love this chain of restaurants, Alexander's has always been a top 3 in San Francisco, now I'd bring out of the top 10 with this location. Should have went to Niku. Hope you save your money on this one or visit the Cupertino location.
