This is a cute black owned ice cream shop in the bayview/hunter's point area that has been open for around 2 years now. My friend and I walked in on a Saturday afternoon. I had been craving something sweet and refreshing after the week long high temperatures that we were experiencing in the bay. I had heard about this place a while ago from a former coworker and wanted to give it a try. The owner was super friendly. He informed us that every flavor on the display case with a blue piece a tape is a flavor that he makes in house, the rest of the ice cream flavors are from Mitchell's ice cream - a local San Francisco favorite. I'd say there was a good mix of Mitchell's and homemade ice cream. They serve single, double, and triple scoops, along with ice cream sandwiches (made with homemade cookies that the shop owner bakes himself), affogatos, sundaes, and milkshakes. My friend sampled his horchata flavor - which she said was really yummy. I sampled his vanilla, which he makes in house. It was tasty but nothing beats Mitchell's for me. If you're like me, and you prefer vanilla bean ice cream because you get those indulgent specks of vanilla bean then his vanilla ice cream in particular is something I would steer clear of.I ended up getting a double scoop of his butter pecan with rainbow sprinkles after sampling it. Magnificent. The ice cream was rich, smooth, and buttery with just the right amount of sweetness; and the pecans were diced up into small pieces. I am not a big nut person and I care even less for pecans but his were diced up so finely that they didn't overpower the ice cream but rather added to it. My friend got his homemade snickerdoodle ice cream sandwich which she said was delicious. The snickerdoodle is one of my favorite cookies and his were sweet and simple. We also ordered a single scoop of mango sorbet for my mother to try. She said it was rich and refreshing, especially on a hot day. The ice cream shop wasn't ginormous but a decent size. There was a small sitting area in the front with a decorated background for cute pictures, and the owner was playing your classic hood r&b jams. If you're local, in the neighborhood, or just looking for a new black owned business to support, I highly suggest What's The Scoop!

I don't know the scoop behind What's the Scoop?, but if you ask me, the Bayview neighborhood needed it. Even though a number of unique eateries dot the urban landscape here, I don't think there's ever been a straight-up ice cream parlor before. When I entered the shop, it felt like any suburban parlor with sundae and milkshake options available. The flavor selection in their display case was split between the ever dependable Mitchell's and their own housemade creations. While Mitchell's Rocky Road has always been on my shortlist, I decided to try their in-house product and ordered the $9 Double Scoop Cup of Butter Pecan and Brown Sugar Coffee (photo: https://bit.ly/3KwxCCF). It was just as good as you'd assume.ICE CREAM - 4 stars...creamy goodnessAMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...like being at the mallSERVICE - 4 stars...cheerfulTOTAL - 4 stars...Bayview needs thisRELATED - Exploring Bayview/Hunters Point? My wife and I heard about this ice cream shop and decided to give it a try. When we came and saw the great selection of ice cream. Plus this place makes cookies from scratch, makes ice cream sandwiches and milkshakes. Mitchell's ice cream is one of the vendors at this place. The owner makes his own ice cream. He also sells E-40 ice cream here. My wife order the coffee bishoff ice cream. She told me the ice cream was delicious and very flavorful. She told me this was some of the best ice cream she has tasted. We also ordered chocolate and brownie cookies. Both were magnificent and filled with flavors. The ambiance is customer service friendly and customer service was top notch. The staff is very knowledgeable and very helpful. Great place to go have ice cream or other items they are offering. Great place I will be back.

A new in town ice cream shop popped up across the street from the park on third. There was only one worker when I went and most of the ice cream in the barrels looked almost empty. The flavors available are pretty basic but it was decent. I tried the caramel praline and black walnut, those flavors balanced each other out. The people I went with got a milkshake and an Oreo coffee float which they said was not bad. The worker was chill and kind, we were patient since it's a one man show. Support the local business if you're nearby!

I was in desperate need of a chocolate shake, bored with my fast food options, and figured I'd check out something new. So glad I landed on What's the Scoop! Found a parking spot right in front so I know it was meant to be. The shop is clean and inviting, the music is nice but not too loud, the server offered samples and then got to work on the shake. Oh, and the shake was really good, chocolatey and thick but still willing to go through the straw. I brought home pints of mint chip and strawberry - the brand is "Goon with the Spoon" - and they were delicious. Rich, dense, strong flavors. Check them out! (I'd recommend later hours once they get going - 7pm closing doesn't give much time for the post dinner ice cream crowd, like Mitchell's caters to.

So awesome to have an ice cream shop in this neighborhood! AND they serve Mitchell's! Creative treat menu that's so much more than just cones. Although ice cream cones are fine by us too. Support the 94124!

Love the new addition to the neighborhood! Music themed and decor is cute. But the ice cream really hits it out of the park. Creamy, delicious and made in-house. The seasonal flavors were our favorite. They came pre-made in cups and were the perfect size. I can't wait to come back and try out the freshly-baked cookie sandwiches. Service was great!
