Purchased produce and couldn't see how rotten until one cuts it open. Avocados looked great , brown inside ($2.99 each and I got 5 for guacamole ). Zucchini's were mixed... some good and sine very bitter . The new owners should also watch their cashier / front person. The pleasant customer in front of me said thanks twice. No response. Cashier monotonously told me my amount and as I was getting my card out of wallet, kept repeating it several times rudely. Dude, I am trying to get it as fast as I can! Hold on! Then he threw my receipt at me. :( I just took the high road by zipping my lip, quietly gathered my purchase and walked out. Terrible service!

Union Street Produce Company is the prototypical neighborhood grocery store. Located at the corner of Union St and Mason St in Russian Hill, this small corner store is popular for its fresh and affordable produce, fresh-squeezed orange juice, and super friendly service. These guys are on the ground level of a four-story apartment building. The Powell-Mason cable car runs right by the store. One of my good friends who lives nearby in North Beach introduced me to this place during my last visit to San Francisco. We stopped here while walking back to his apartment. This is his favorite grocery store. He recently moved apartments within San Francisco and wanted to move to an apartment within a radius such that he could continue shopping at Union Street Produce Company on a regular basis. That it affects the decision of where one moves should be all you need to know about this place. The store looks like your typical, longtime, in-the-city, neighborhood market. The Union St side has open-air bins and carts of fruits and vegetables (apples, oranges, etc.) ready for the taking outside on the sidewalk. The inside is as colorful as can be with an assortment of fresh fruits and veggies including peaches, nectarines, grapes, plums, and melons, red, yellow, and green bell pepper, cucumbers, green beans, snow peas, jalapenos, squash, tomatoes, Brussels sprouts, artichoke, corn, mushrooms, cabbage and lettuce (of various types), potatoes, onion, scallions, garlic, and much more. They have baggies of dried fruits (e.g. kiwi, figs) and nuts. We picked up kale, spinach, carrots, apples, and ginger to make juice at home. And there's more than just produce. While the store isn't very big, the owners have managed to stock just enough of food and ingredients to suffice it as a one-stop for all your grocery needs. They have pastas, cereals, milk, cheese, and other dairy products, condiments, seasonings/spices, canned and jarred goods, beverages, household products and cleaning supplies, Ziploc bags, snacks, noodles, breads, and chocolate to name a handful. In addition, they carry frozen foods and meat (chicken, beef, sausage) and fish. No, it's nowhere big as a Safeway, Lucky, or Trader Joe's, but it packs quite a punch for its size.Shopping here also feels good because you're supporting a small local business staffed by genuinely nice people. Prices are reasonable and credit cards are accepted.

Haven't been here for a while as this is a bit out of my way and the store is as always, so well stocked and fresh. Today, I decided to compare the prices with Amazon fresh and pleasantly surprised by how they are pretty much the same if not less here. I would assume they would add on convenience charge but apparently not. Worth my bit of a trek there.Cashier Ricardo(as mentioned on the receipt) was very professional and respectful.Items purchased:Dave's killer breadQuaker oatsBananaMangoesValencia OrangeBlueberriesKiwi
