PHENOMENAL udon!! Think of this place like a fancier upscale Marugame. Tons of great and unique menu options. They are known for their mentai cream but I ordered their beef sukiyaki which ones in a cute clay pot! Thinly sliced beef was sweet and tender, broth was so full of flavor but still light at the same time. Poached egg adds as a great flavor and texture binder. I was one of the first customers to get seated upon them opening at 11am on a Saturday but I still felt a bit rushed to order. Understandable since it's a weekend and lunch rush was coming but I felt like it was a tad too rushed. Regardless, will come back here as one of my new staple udon places in the city to try new items on their menu.

Today's lunch was at UDON MUGIZO, a Japanese restaurant famous for its handmade udon noodles, which has a good reputation in many locations. The overall experience was satisfactory. The taste, seasoning and portion of the udon noodles were in line with expectations, and it is a recommended Japanese simple meal choiceIn terms of atmosphere, the restaurant is simple in style, full of Japanese warmth, with compact seating arrangements, and slightly crowded during peak hours. The open design of the kitchen allows diners to see the process of making noodles, adding a sense of presence, but also making the environment a little noisyIn terms of food, there are a wide variety of udon noodles, from classic tempura udon to Japanese curry udon, with a variety of choices. I personally prefer the Mentai cream sauce udon noodles, which are rich in milk flavor and paired with salty and fragrant Mentaiko, with a unique and balanced flavor. The udon noodles themselves have a chewy texture, and the sauce is moderately thick, which can wrap the noodles well, making every bite full of flavor. The tempura batter is light and crispy, not greasy, and is a great side dish. In addition, bento boxes and various Japanese side dishes, such as dumplings and tempura, also provide more options for diningIn terms of service, the overall operation is efficient, the staff is friendly, and the food is served at a reasonable speed. Although it is a bit busy during peak hours, and the waiter needs to be reminded occasionally to refill tea or seasonings, the overall service is still maintained at a good levelIn summary, UDON MUGIZO provides a solid udon experience, with good noodle taste, seasoning, and side dishes. Although the environment is a bit noisy during peak meal times and the service rhythm has room for a small improvement, it is still a Japanese noodle restaurant worth trying overall, especially for diners who like authentic udon noodle

First off - Japan Center as a whole is super cozy - this spot was perfect and local recommended (my neighbors no less!) and kid friendly. Huge portions and amazing soupy goodness - I have no idea what was in my udon and didn't care - it was divine and warming on such an overcast day. My friends ordered these tempura offerings - gyoza tempura needs to be normalized for certain. The batter might have been a bit too much on the mushrooms but the shrimp tempura in my udon was perfect so maybe it was just the mushroom structure and how the batter adhered to it. Thanks to my friends for teaching me how to properly use the ladles and chopsticks so I didn't look like such a newbie! Now we just need an outpost here in CT

Was looking for a late dinner in Japantown and didn't realize so many restaurants closed early. Thankfully Udon Mugizo was open! They seated me immediately and I ordered the regular kitsune udon & takoyaki. The takoyaki came out hot and in minutes I inhaled 3. The kitsune udon was a good portion -- I was a little worried when it came out in a large bowl. The fried tofu was sweet with a really great chew/texture that soaked up the broth. The fishcakes had a good bounce to them. And the udon was well made and cooked perfectly--there was a slight bite to them still if you bite into a noodle. They definitely maximized the space inside but there were partitions between certain sections so it still gave a sense of privacy. My takoyaki + regular udon came out to be $30 (including tip + tax). I think if I split the food, it would definitely be a reasonable price for dinner. Next time!

Udon Mugizo is a solid spot for a comforting bowl of udon, conveniently located inside Japantown Mall. The parking garage makes it an easy stop, and for lunch, I was seated right away and received my food within 10 minutes of ordering.I got the eggplant tempura and a large Niku udon. The eggplant tempura was excellent--crispy and crunchy on the outside, with soft, fresh eggplant inside. I really liked how they cut it into easy-to-dip pieces. The Niku udon had a lot of great elements. The broth was fantastic--rich yet clean--with a generous amount of fresh green scallions that added a refreshing touch. The softly poached egg mixed with the tempura flakes created a creamy texture, making the broth even better. The thinly sliced fatty beef and cooked onions made the dish more savory, though I wasn't a fan of the fish cakes, which were rubbery and uninspiring. The biggest letdown was the udon itself. This batch was overcooked--mushy, lacking chew, and breaking apart too easily. I basically had to eat it like a soup with the wooden spoon it came with. For the price, you'd expect a highly executed udon experience, but it ended up being just standard.Service was attentive throughout, almost too much so. I appreciated the staff being on top of things, but at times, it felt like they were little hawks watching from behind the shutters, which made the experience a bit intense.Overall, a great spot for udon with fast service and a convenient location, but consistency in noodle texture and a slightly more relaxed atmosphere would make a big difference.

Expensive but good udon.Japantown is chock full of restaurants. Some are meh and expensive and some are decent and expensive. Udon Mugizo is the latter.$25 f or the mentai cream udon is a bit over the top. Though it does come with a lot of toppings.Gyoza is deep fried and pretty yummy.

4.5 if i could. this place is reliable. i know foods gonna be good, service is fast, and i'll be on a full belly. it's classic, not innovative. going when it's prime lunch or dinner is hard to get a spot to dine at but if ya go slightly before or after, it has tons of spots even if you're a party of 2, you can get the table for 4!my go-tos/ recommendations are the sukiyaki (any of the nabe will be fab), cold zaru, and tempura/kitsune. i do recommend for sukiyaki to ask them if they can make a little less sweet, because the last time i had it, it was overbearingly sweet. zaru with tempura is really bomb and the tempura is cooked to perfection. takoyaki is also good as well. i haven't tried the udon in the cup but for the full portion, you'll eat til you're stuffed (with maybe some leftovers too tbh)it's not a perfect 5/5 is cus, it gets the job done but nothing STANDS out as innovative. it's classic udon and if i cannot make it out to katsuo+kombu, this place is still pretty good.

First timer at Udon Mugizo and didn't know what exactly to expect as I've only ever ate at Marugame Udon in the past. The restaurant, located inside of Japantown, is very cozy. The staff were all super kind, welcoming and consistent. The service was honestly immaculate. I got the tonkatsu udon-- spicy and it was so good! The spicy was not too spicy, just comfortable enough to be able to eat without stopping for water breaks. I loved how rich and flavorful the broth was. I also got to try the agedashi tofu, gyoza, and tempura appetizers which were all delish. Tempura is always a staple for me but I was really impressed with the gyoza. I took my leftover udon home by separating the noodles and soup in 2 containers. I ate it the next morning and surprisingly, the udon noodles kept its texture + didn't get super soggy. I would definitely eat at Udon Mugizo again!

Cozy wood interior for tasty, fulfilling udon noodle soup.I ordered the only vegetarian entree on the menu - the COLD vegetable udon. Food came out fast. Service could have been more warm and friendly - we felt rushed to pay the check and leave. The udon was the perfect portion -- although just miso and tomato broth it had lots of depth and flavor. I enjoyed every bite - refreshing and hydrating. It would be great for a summer day but didn't quite feel fulfilling on a winter day. I would easily come here again on a summer day! Next, I want to try the tempura maitake mushrooms.

One of the best Udon place in the City! Recently stopped by here, waited 55 mins, ate amazing Udon, and left happy! I am bit surprised at other Yelpers with low reviews but my experience at this place was just right. Loved the cozy Japanese Ambiance and everything was delicious. Their pork belly was simply one of BEST I ever had!!! Expect long wait and parking at can very tricky during the weekends but trust me, it's worth the wait! Highly recommended!!!
